Work Text:

Kim Soleum groaned, "Not again.."

The agent under him just greeted him with a big smile and a wave.

"Are you not tired of putting yourself in danger ?"

The angel flew down from the sky, his huge jet-black wings shifting the air hard enough for Choi's hair to flow back. Once he landed, he quickly fixed his messy tie and looked around out of habit even though no one except Choi could perceive him.

"Nah, not really. 'Specially when I know I've got someone looking out for me."

Choi lightly scratched his neck, where an old scar remained, a stark reminder of both the day they met and the day he lost part of his name.

"Did the guys up there hold you up ?"

It had been several weeks since they've met, despite Choi jumping in multiple pretty serious ghost stories. Usually, Kim Soleum would follow him around by blending in with the crowd though Choi would easily spot him and oftentimes invite him to eat. Then he would say that he, as a guardian angel, couldn't eat or drink but would still end up sitting across from him in a cafe or a restaurant.

Of course, that meant a part of Kim Soleum's duty was following him in ghost stories and helping him, as not only was he completely immune to contamination, once within darkness the creatures inside treated him with reverence or repulsion.

Anyway, at best Kim Soleum would leave Agent Choi for a few days at most.

Then the angel would be back, without any explanation.

Kim Soleum frowned, "Don't tell me you did that on purpose ?"

"Of course not !" Agent Choi lied as freely as he walked, "It's just my job, if I see people in danger I can't stand here and do nothing as a civil servant now, can I ?"

Let's ignore the fact that the last one was being monitored and didn't have any civilians in it.

"What about you ? You weren't there for a while, got any news ?"

Kim Soleum shaked his head without saying a word, the dissatisfaction oozing from his face was loud enough anyway.

Besides his name, he didn't remember much. Beyond fragments that were so distant and impersonal that Kim Soleum felt completely disconnected from them.

And yet, he longed for them harder than anything else.

"I had- have a mom and a little brother…"

"I do have friend !"

"I remember a face, a childhood friend, maybe…"

Sometimes, during vulnerable moments he'd blurt out little snippets to Choi. And not liking staying still, he did his own research, digging into records and trying to find a 'Kim Soleum' but nothing turned out.

Were his memories even genuine ? He strongly doubted it but didn't have the heart to voice that doubt to a Kim Soleum that was so strongly convinced he would be able to go home if he continued working as an 'angel'.

In fact, Choi didn't think Kim Soleum was ever a human.

Maybe in other people this would instill some wariness or distrust, but how could Choi ever feel that way toward Kim Soleum ? He was kind and hard working, even if he acted shady at times, his actions repeatedly showed who he is.

And he felt it, deep in his bones, that had he not appeared that day he would have died.

Or rather, he should be dead. Why else would his name be taken away ? So it couldn't be repeated thrice.

In that sense, Choi wasn't all that human anymore, too.

But whenever he tried to meddle, he could feel Kim Soleum go on the defensive, slowly slipping the conversation towards an argument, and he would rather avoid that for now.

"Wanna go grab a drink ? This way I wont leave your line of sight," And Kim Soleum wouldn't leave Choi's.

The angel sighted again, he tended to have that effect on people.

But since he had concealed his wings, Choi knew he had won.

"I can't drink… Watching you is fine enough, I guess."

Choi's smile soared so high, it might have made him go to heaven to become a guardian angel as well.

With a chuckle, he immediately booked it toward the nearest cafe he knew, Kim Soleum following silently behind him.

And Choi wouldn't have it any other way.

Notes:

the idea there was to kind of have a bit of codependency going on between them, but im not sure if that came across very well... maybe ill write another lit' snippet.....

Also its not exactly canon accurate cause this mofo (choi) gatekeep his backstory so hard we still have no idea what the hell is up with him, you better cough it up (and we at least know he's the one who sacrificed his name, but uk name are attached to identity and sacrificing this is prob the same as sacrificing himself so really maybe in canon he didn't expect to survive ??? idk part 3 save me)
