Chapter Text
Jiung
“Excuse me”
Jiung
“Hi I am in bed 927”
Keeho
Keeho
Keeho”
Jiung
Jiung”
Jiung
Keeho
Keeho
Jiung
Jiung
“Jiung…
Keeho
Keeho”
Jiung
Keeho
“What”
Jiung
Keeho
Keeho
Jiung
Keeho
Jiung’s first day in a new city was also the day he moved into his dormitory.
To be precise, he was moving into the school dorms.
As someone who was always organized, he had packed and sorted all of his belongings long before the move.
When he arrived, the room was empty.
He was relieved to have gotten there early.
He wasn’t the type who could easily strike up conversations with strangers.
He needed his own space.
As he slowly unpacked his things, he found himself wondering what kind of person his roommate would be.
“Excuse me.”
A stranger’s voice suddenly came from behind him.
Jiung turned around and saw a boy leaning casually against the doorframe.
A phone rested in his hand.
An intricate tattoo stretched from the back of his hand up to his wrist,
partially hidden beneath the sleeve of an oversized hoodie.
It gave the boy an edge of rebellion and mystery,
despite his otherwise clean-cut student appearance.
His hair fell loosely across his forehead.
When he smiled, the corners of his eyes curved slightly upward.
There was a sharpness in his gaze that seemed far beyond his age.
Somehow, he looked strangely out of place in the overly quiet dorm room.
“Hi, I’m in bed 927.”
Dragging his suitcase behind him, Keeho walked into the room as if he owned the place.
He glanced around before his eyes settled on Jiung’s side of the room.
Everything was neat and meticulously arranged.
“Oh, looks like I got a tidy roommate.”
Keeho’s voice carried a distinctive accent.
“Whatever. My name’s Yoon Keeho. You can just call me Keeho.”
“Nice to meet you.”
He turned and extended a hand toward Jiung.
Jiung stared at the hand suspended between them.
His eyes lingered for a brief second on the unique tattoo designs
before slowly meeting Keeho’s bright yet unexpectedly deep eyes.
“Choi Jiung.”
Jiung replied calmly.
He shook the overly warm hand out of courtesy
and quickly withdrew his gaze.
Turning away, he resumed arranging the items on his desk with deliberate care,
trying to rebuild the invisible wall he always kept around himself.
Over the next few months,
the dorm became a place of silent tension between them.
At first, Jiung was wary of Keeho.
Their worlds were simply too different.
Keeho’s world was loud.
His phone never stopped buzzing with messages.
After class, students from different clubs—and sometimes even different departments—would poke their heads into the dorm looking for him.
He was kind to everyone.
That effortless warmth and openness drew people toward him naturally,
like a source of light no one could ignore.
Whenever it happened,
Jiung would quietly put on his headphones and retreat into his own world.
He disliked unnecessary social interaction,
and he liked Keeho’s seemingly limitless social boundaries even less.
Still, there was only so much space in a dorm room.
Sooner or later,
two completely different lives sharing the same roof were bound to intersect.
The invisible wall between them finally cracked on a night of relentless rain.
Jiung was sitting at his desk as usual, studying.
With his headphones on, he focused on the notes displayed on his tablet.
Then a sudden commotion interrupted him.
Pulling off his headphones, he turned around and saw Keeho stumbling through the dorm door.
His hair was damp.
Wet strands clung to his forehead as droplets of rain ran down his face.
It looked like he had been caught in the storm.
“Sorry. Did I disturb you?”
His voice lacked its usual energy.
Instead, it sounded tired and hoarse.
Keeho lifted his head and met Jiung’s eyes.
Jiung didn’t answer.
He simply looked at him.
Under the dim desk lamp,
the tattoo on Keeho’s wrist seemed strangely cold.
Leaning against Jiung’s desk, Keeho forced a crooked smile.
As he dried his hair with a towel, he spoke without waiting for a response.
“Jiung... it’s so noisy out there.”
Tilting his head back, he closed his eyes and let out a long breath.
It was the first time Jiung had seen him without that perfect social mask.
During the day, Keeho was a shining presence,
always offering warmth and laughter to everyone around him.
But at this moment,
he looked like a star that had burned through all of its energy,
wanting nothing more than to hide in this quiet corner and catch his breath.
Without either of them realizing it,
the dorm room Jiung had once filled with emotional distance
had become the only place where Keeho could escape the noise.
“Hey, Keeho.”
Jiung’s calm voice broke through the sound of the rain.
Keeho paused mid-motion and looked over, surprised.
“What?”
Jiung didn’t say much.
He simply stood, walked to his storage cabinet, and opened it.
From inside, he pulled out two cups of instant noodles he kept for emergencies.
Then he carried an electric kettle to the sink, filled it with water, and switched it on.
While waiting for it to boil, he opened the seasoning packets and prepared the noodles.
Everything he did was methodical and quiet.
The only sound was the low bubbling of the kettle.
“Eat something.”
Jiung placed one of the steaming bowls beside Keeho and handed him a pair of chopsticks.
Warm steam and the rich scent of broth filled the room.
Keeho froze for a moment before laughing.
Not the polite laugh he used for social situations.
A real one.
Relaxed.
Genuine.
“Thanks.”
Sitting on the floor, Keeho eagerly dug into the noodles.
The warmth of the broth spread through him,
finally driving away the chill he had brought in from the rain.
“Wow...”
Keeho looked up at Jiung.
His eyes sparkled beneath the soft light.
“I didn’t expect you to be this caring.”
With his mouth still full of noodles, he spoke through a grin.
Jiung looked down at him.
The unexpected compliment barely stirred a reaction.
“Just eat your noodles.”
His tone remained cool as ever.
But this time,
he didn’t put his headphones back on.
Outside, the rain continued to pour.
Inside, however, there was no trace of gloom.
The awkwardness and caution that had once filled the room quietly faded away,
replaced by a gentle warmth.
Neither of them spoke again.
Yet neither felt the need to.
The steam from those instant noodles lingered in their memories for a long time.
Long enough that, in the years ahead,
they would repeatedly build and break down each other’s defenses.
After that rainy night,
the atmosphere in the dorm began to change in subtle ways.
