Paulina took a deep breath as she mentally prepared for their next cheer performance. Casper High didn’t have the best record when it came to cheer competitions or hyping up the spectators at football games. They weren’t outright bad – they were better since Paulina joined the cheer squad – they were rather mid. There were worse cheer squads (Elmerton High, everyone), there were better cheer squads.
But this game, the Casper High got an ace up their sleeve. Well, three actually.
First of all, a better mascot. Well, mascots. The cheer uniforms got redesigned and now look better. (Not that the old red and white uniforms looked outright bad, they were just bland. A washed out red, the most basic pattern and cut and no bit of black. Casper’s school colors are white, red and black. Not just red and white. But the designer of the prior uniforms didn’t get that memo.) And last but not least, they got a gimmick the other school – some high school from Chicago – cannot top: literal ghosts.
If Amity Park is plagued by the undead, they can at least capitalize on it. The Cheer Squad of Casper High sure does.
Their cheer chant for the first two quarters said so at least.
“We got more Souls than you,
we got more Spirits, yes we do!”
Everyone has soul and spirit, but not everyone has literal souls of the dead and spirits.
“You brought your muscles and your Chicago pride,
But we got friends on the Other Side!” They threw Star into the air – as she is the flier of the squad – who wore a slightly edited version of their uniform. Green instead of red, more black than white and some of the remaining white got replaced with a reflective fabric to represent the ghosts.
“You can’t catch us, you can’t compete!
The Casper Ravens don’t know defeat!” Ashley and Brittany caught Star, who also had pom-poms made from reflective material.
“So pack your bags and hit the road,
before our spirits OVERLOAD!” Paulina yelled, hyping up the spectators to the extreme.
“Overload! Overload!” the crowd cheered.
“I can’t believe you agreed to do this!” Sam snapped at him as Danny put the Raven Costume on. The then froze, realizing something. “Oh, what am I saying! Of course you agree to whatever she asks you to do!”
Danny just shrugged as he put the raven head on. “You over react. It is just one game where I am the mascot. I didn’t forget our gaming sessions every Friday. This is just a small expectation.” He then turned into Phantom, transforming the mascot costume into a dark purple nightmare. “Huh, it turns purple.”
“You didn’t test this beforehand?” Sam asked, raising an eye brow. “Of course you didn’t. You never think things through.”
Then, the half time show was on. The ultimate moment to show off their ace: literal ghosts as the mascots!
“We got more Souls than you do!
We got more spirits, yes we do!
“Your team is weak, your fans are tame,
we brought the dead to win this game!”
The cheerleaders chanted, just for the raven mascot – very obviously the city hero Phantom with a purple raven costume over his suit – flew out of the gate and flew over the field. The Chicago guests stared in disbelief. Casper got a literal superhero to play their mascot.
“How the fuck are we supposed to top that?!” one of the guest cheerleaders asked, but her leader just shrugged.
“No idea, Cindy. Winning the game, I guess.”
Paulina continued the chant, “From the shadows of the sky,
watch the ravens fly!
“Fear the Flock!” she yelled, just as a murder of ghostly ravens flocked to the field.
“Aahhh!” one of the Chicagoan football players screeched as the ravens swooped at them. But the Amity Parkers attending the game were cheering.
Tucker and Sam watched from the side lines. Tucker mused, “I just hope the ghost ravens don’t attract the attention of any ghost hunters.”
“Didn’t you distract the GIW with your hacking?” Sam asked. “The hacking session you did for literally this?”
“Oh please, their passwords were so weak, I won’t even call this hacking!” he replied. “I wish the GIW would be the only hunters we have to worry about.”
Maybe it was because the guest team and cheer squad were pissing their panties due to the literal ghost ravens littering the field, but the Casper High ravens were seemingly winning the game, so Paulina could use the preferred cheering chant.
“We got more Souls than you! We got more Spirits, yes we do!”
“Yes we do!” the crowd repeated.
“Chicago’s running, they’re shaking with fright!” That line being surprisingly accurate.
“Shaking with Fright!” the crowd roared.
“Cause the Ravens own the night!”
“Own the night!”
Then everyone yelled together in unison, “Red, white and black – the Ravens are on attack!”
“On Attack! On Attack!” the crowd cheered on their own.
After the game wrapped up with a win for the Casper Ravens, Danny and his friends returned home. While his friends were casual, Danny skipped, happy with the thanks he received from Paulina.
“You do realize she kissed Phantom and not Fenton, right?” Sam pointed out.
“Shush, you. Let him have his moment.” Tucker told her. “Let him have this.”
