“Go on!” Maisie egged her on, voice slightly slurred from the alcohol.
“Yeah Jackie,” Candy added her own two cents, “it’s not like- it’s not like Bloody Mary’s actua-actually real,” she hiccupped.
Jackie sighed, but turned to face the mirror, relying on the liquid courage for this, despite her own disbelief, “Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary.”
Nothing happened. The pub bathroom lighting remained weak and a pale yellow, and the mirror kept its dull shine.
“C’mon,” Maisie whined, “I thought we had faith that this would work?”
Jackie shrugged, and turned away from the mirror, back to her friends by the bathroom stalls, “Bloody Mary is just a cocktail.”
Candy struggled up from where she was sitting on the floor, leaning against a stall door, “might as well go get some more, then.”
Candy and Maisie went to the door, but before Jackie could follow behind, it slammed shut.
CRACK
Jackie spun around, and saw shards of the mirror littering the dirty floor, reflecting a floating figure shrouded in purple, shown in fragments.
She was beautiful- tall, with shining dark brown skin, and a crescent moon on her forehead that seemed to glow in the dinge. A dark blue robe floated behind her, “you called?”
Jackie felt her heart in her throat, “Bloody Mary?”
The woman laughed, a melodic but wry sound, “I’m Faith. I think I’ve been waiting for you? It’s good to be corporeal again.”
“Right…”
How much had she drunk???
“So. Should we get a drink?” Faith dropped to the ground, standing shorter than Jackie, “I’ve missed drinking. And eating.”
What was the worst that could happen?
“Okay. Not a Bloody Mary, though.” Jackie smiled, and Faith giggled.
