He stared, mesmerized, as those black talons tapped against the wood in an entrancing rhythm. He couldn't even see its mouth moving as it started to sing to him. Its voice was gravely yet clear, like grains of sand slipping through your fingers. It sang in no language Chan knew, yet he was caught on every syllable as if he was a fish on a hook.
Maybe Chan should have been filled with horror, or at least a healthy fear, but he wasn't.
