Boombox let out a yawn, blinking open his eyes. He didn’t want to get up.
Then again, who ever does?
“Hnngh…” He wrapped his arms tighter around his ‘pillow’, Skateboard. “Do we even have anything important to do today…?” He groaned out, wanting nothing more than to fall back asleep. “Well, no, not really.” Skateboard explained, having been awake before his boyfriend.
“Just training, which is optional.”
Boombox sighed in relief, letting his eyes drift back close. “Thank The Swords. That means we can just stay in bed, right?” Skate rolled his eyes, ruffling his partner’s hair, messing it up even more than it already was.
“Of course not.” He leaned down, pressing a small kiss to his forehead. “You still have to do all these other things. Like giving Rocket those music recommendations you promised.” Boombox groaned in annoyance, reluctantly, albeit after a lot of convincing from Skateboard, got out of bed.
“You know, with how often you’ve been coming to my apartment lately, people might start to think you live here.” The green inphernal stated, shooting his boyfriend a teasing glance. Skateboard simply shrugged, climbing out of Boombox’s bed, clapping him on the shoulder and pressing a kiss to his cheek before leaving the room to allow the green phighter to change.
He pulled on his usual attire, green suit, dark green pants. He took extra time fixing the chain on his belt before he walked out, finding Skateboard looking around his kitchen, familiarizing himself with the location of cooking items.
“Hey Boomy, do you think next time I’m here I could make pancakes or something for breakfast?” He asked, turning towards his boyfriend as he came out of his room. Boombox brightened up at the idea, nodding his head. “Yeah, that sounds amazing.”
The green phighter always had a sweet tooth for things like pastries. Skateboard met up with his partner towards the door, hands brushing against each other as they made their way out and down the stairs.
-
Skateboard reached up, wiping the back of his hand across his forehead, collecting the sweat there. He slumped down, back flush with the wall.
Today’s practice was absolutely brutal.
Skate’s eyes catch Coil’s from around the room, and he brightens up. After this, maybe they could all get together again, like how they used to.
“Coil!”
He waves the other phighter down, getting up and walking over to him, a bright smile on his face. Coil smiled warmly, meeting his friend in the middle. “Hey Skate, how’re ya’ doin’?” Before Skateboard could get in much of a reply, Coil was squeezing him tightly, hugging all the air out of his lungs.
He wheezed, eyes widening out of surprise. “H-Hey buddy-” He managed out, taking a deep breath the second Coil released him. Despite the initial shock of being hugged like that, Skateboard was still positive as ever. “I’m doing great, just recently me and Boomy met up again. It’s really been a while since we were all together, hasn’t it?” Coil nodded, his own fluffy tail wagging slightly.
“Yeah, I’ve been kinda keeping in touch with Boombox, but not you for some reason. It’s like you’ve been avoiding me like the plague!” He teased, grinning. His teeth caught the light, shimmering in the rather blinding sunlight.
“Eh, sorry. I’ve been caught up with other things.” Skateboard shrugged, but in all honesty, he was mainly avoiding him because he just felt bad about some things he said before they split up. They weren’t rude, he was just worried Coil would look too deeply into what he said and judge him for it.
“Anyways, I was wondering if you would be interested in maybe meeting up with me and Boombox after practice?”
He asked, tilting his head to the side. Coil seemed to brighten up at the idea, nodding along as Skate said it. “Yeah. That sounds really good. It’s really been too long since we were all buddy-buddy with each other.”
-
The three were now at Coil’s house. Shockingly enough, the orange phighter had strung up enough funds to settle for one. “Why didn’t you ever tell me you got a house?” Boombox asked in awe as the trio walked through the entryway.
“Eh, I didn’t feel it was all that important.” Coil shrugged, waving them into his living room. He gestured to the couch, leading his friends over. The two were now relaxed against the cushions, Boombox leaning against Skateboard subconsciously.
“How about we play some games? I’ve got a wide variety, but how about something simple like blackjack?”
The two other phighters agreed, watching Coil as he went over to another room, coming back a few moments later with a pack of cards, and Uno for some reason.
“Uno?” Boombox asked, perking up, his tail wagging. The thought of playing Uno hadn’t even crossed his mind. “Pfft- yeah. I knew it would pique your interest.” Coil teased, sitting down next to the green inphernal.
They started with blackjack, because it was what was mentioned first, played around ten rounds. Boombox didn’t end up winning any of them.
“Boomy…I never knew you were this bad.” Skateboard teased, his hand drifting down to playfully pull on Boombox’s tail, causing his boyfriend to blush softly. “Oh shush.” Boombox scoffed, rolling his eyes. Not that he actually meant it in an aggressive way.
“All right, we ready for Uno?”
Boombox immediately snapped to attention at that, his tail wagging softly against Skateboard's hand. “Of course!”
-
Boombox was generationally sweaty at Uno.
Like, he’s too good.
The trio played for like an hour, and he ended up winning more than half of the rounds they played.
This was their final round now, and Boombox had two cards left, Coil three, and Skateboard had like seven hundred eight.
After Skateboard’s turn, (He had to draw like 7 more cards) It was Boombox’s. The green phighter smirked, placing down a card. Before he could pull back and say Uno, Coil beat him to it.
But not to say Uno.
“I know you guys are gay.” Boombox flinched, looking up at Coil, cheeks starting to glow a light green. “W-Wha-” Skateboard looked equally as flustered, eyes widened in surprise. “Uno. You have one card left, Boomy.” Boombox stammered over his words, looking between his boyfriend and Coil. Without much of another word or protest, he grabbed two cards, as promised.
“W-Was it that obvious…?” Skateboard asked sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
“Skateboard. You literally have your tails intertwined right now.”
Ah.
Shoot.
Skate quickly unwrapped his tail from Boombox’s, looking off to the side. “Welp. Guess it’s my turn now.” Coil shrugged out, playing down a card of his own. This whole interaction left Skateboard and Boombox rather speechless. They didn’t plan on coming out to Coil just yet, but was it really that obvious? Skateboard placed down one of his many cards, bringing the turn back to Boombox. “Well…” The green phighter started, gripping the cards tightly between his claws.
“Yeah. We are. It’s not been that long though.” He explained, his puffy tail swishing slowly. He placed down a card, looking to Skateboard for some kind of reassurance or support. “Yeah, it’s only been like three months.” The red demon shrugged, trying to make this all casual. He didn’t want Coil feeling left out or anything. The two still deeply cared about him, even though now their friend group’s dynamic had sort of…shifted.
“Hmm. Only three months?” Coil asked, raising an eyebrow. “You guys have been, Uno, radiating with romantic tension since before we started joining phights.” They had? Really..? The two thought it was all platonic, at least up until recently.
“I guess it just took a while to realize that ourselves.” Boombox explained, putting down his own card. “Uno.” Skateboard nodded slowly, glad that now most of the suffocating awkwardness was slowly dissipating. “I don’t want this to come between our friendship.” Skate confessed, frowning.
Coil seemed amused at the comment, which felt…weird. “Oh please Skatey, I know it won’t. As long as you two at least agree to tell me all about your love life.” He joked, drawing a card, playing that one. “Uno.” Boombox seemed to lighten up at that, all the earlier awkwardness clearly behind him.
He slapped down his last card, grinning in triumph. “Uno out!” He exclaimed proudly, tail already starting to wag behind him.
Coil looked baffled, looking between Skateboard and the green phighter.
“Boomy…how.”
He scoffed. Coil used the fact that he knew the two of them were dating as a way to distract Boombox, so he would have a winning chance.
And he still lost.
“He’s just too good at this kinda thing.” Skateboard sighed out, rolling his eyes fondly. “Yeah, I can tell. How many games did he even win?” Boombox held up his hands, holding four fingers up. “Four times! We played six games.” The smaller phighter always got so ecstatic when it came to the little things he liked, card games, music, things like that.
“Okay Boombox, no need to gloat.” Coil said, smiling softly as he reached out, ruffling the green phighter’s hair. Skateboard stood up from the chair with a yawn, making a point to stretch his arms above his head, tail stretching out behind him as well.
“Welp, It’s probably time me and Boom start getting back. We’ve got some early phights tomorrow.” Coil nodded, bonking Boombox on the head one more time before leading them towards the front door with a wave. “Well, It was nice meeting with the two of ya’” He says, smiling at the two of them. As they walked on, he called after them.
“Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do! And that’s not a lot, so go crazy!”
