Chapter Text

"Neeks! You're going to be late!" I heard my sister, Hazel call from downstairs.

I groan and get up to get dressed.

I just moved to New York from Italy, my mom and sister died so my dad thought we should move out of Italy, especially because some of the ideas the Nazis had were still very big ideas in Italy. Plus my half sister Hazel's mom died so we moved here to take care of her too.

I was not looking forward to going to a new school, I didn't like people in Italy I wasn't gonna like people in America.

I walked into the kitchen with new clothes on.
(I don't feel like looking up clothes people wore in the 1950s right now, I might later though.)

Hazel was already ready, clearly she was excited for the first day, I didn't know why she would be though.

Hazel handed me some toast with a stern look, I really didn't wanna eat anything, but I ate it.

We walked out the door and started walking to school, Hazel in front, me trailing behind.

I seen a few other random kids walking to school, I didn't pay them any mind. They all would probably just think I'm weird and creepy if they knew me anyways.

"please at least try to make a friend Nico, for me?" Hazel asks slowing down to match my pace, she knows I'm gonna do my very best to make sure I don't talk to a single person.

"I'll try." I say, but I probably wasn't, but I didn't want Hazel worrying about me, I'd be fine on my own, I didn't need any friends.

She sighs then says, "Well what's your first class? Maybe we have a class together."

I got my schedule out and we compared them, we had not a single class together, but we did have lunch.

By the time we finished, we were at school. We went our separate ways to our lockers.

My locker was, annoyingly, right next to this tall blonde guy who looked like the personification of sunshine. He was 6 foot with tan skin, curly golden blonde hair, freckles covering his arms and face, and bright blue eyes. he seemed very happy, I didn't know why, it'sthe first day of fucking school, why would anyone be happy. He looked kinda cute. I hated myself for that thought. I made a mental note to stay far away from him, and try to never to talk to him.

Unfortunately, that meant he'd of course try to start a conversation with me.

I just walked away pretending I thought he was talking to someone else. If only he was.

I walked down the hall towards the cafeteria. Finally, away from all those idiots in my classes. I was happy I'd just be seeing Hazel now. I just hoped she wouldn’t have made new friends she wanted me to talk to. Don't get me wrong, I want my sister to have friends, it's just I don't want to talk to those friends.

Of course my wishes could never be granted. I walked through the doors to see Hazel with a few other people. She spotted me and waved me over.

I sighed and began to trudge over to her and her friends.

"Everyone, this is my brother Nico, Nico this is Leo, Reyna, Piper, Annabeth, and Percy." Hazel introduces. As she talks she points to the different people, Leo a short latino, Reyna a calm looking latina, Piper a girl with choppy hair and hazel eyes, Annabeth a blonde girl with a pony tail, Percy who I presumed to be Annabeth's boyfriend because he had his arm around her, Percy had black hair and he was tall. He was kinda cute, I remember seeing him outside in the summer a bit. I squashed the thought of liking him down even more than before, he had a girlfriend and he was a guy.

I gave them a quick nod and sat down next to Hazel hoping to make my way through lunch without talking to anyone.

"So Nico, have you made any friends like I asked?" Hazel questions.

Curse my bad luck. "Yeah... they just have different lunches." I lie.

She gives me a skeptical look but doesn't push, for now.

Hazel and her friends continuously try to make conversation with me but I keep to short answers, Reyna seemed to respect my choice of not talking. Maybe I'd end up talking to her.

After that the rest of the day went slow going through classes, I wasn't really paying attention but I definitely wasn't talking to anyone. I drew instead.

Once the day was finally done, I walked home with Hazel.

The one blonde boy from the locker next to mine walked past us on our way out, to my luck, he didn't try to start conversation this time.

I listened to Hazel talk a bit as we walked. She tried to ask me things about my day, but I only gave vague answers, not like I didn't like her, I loved my sister, but again, I didn't want her to worry.

That's the first chapter, I know it's not very long and probably isn't the best, but I hope you like it. It's set in the last 1940s to 1950 if you couldn't tell, I'll do some research to make sure its accurate, but I might not get everything right. Sorry about the homophobia, I am not homophobic myself, I am very against it, however that's the main thing they are getting through in this fic so I'd suggest you stop reading if it bothers you.

Notes:

it might take me a little to update again bc im lazy but i already have I think 20 chapters done
