(Or: An Ivan character study, told entirely in the form of an English language test paper.)

Notes:

HELLO... I'm posting this via a shaky internet connection in a tent, and I've finished most of this on the road (or in between halts) today while travelling, so... I'm not sure how it is. I had grand plans for this one, but I suppose part of experimental work is to sometimes fail at it, too. Not everything turns out to be the next cool thing you've written, and that's okay. I'm happy to share this regardless, since I worked hard on it.

The form was inspired by this piece by Charles Jensen.

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoy this one :')

English Language Exam

Answers must be provided on a separate sheet. Please attempt all questions to the best of your abilities. Occupying the space in between the given lines is not an option. Please find a place of rest elsewhere.

The intended marks for each section have been mentioned on the left. You, who understands very well what it is like to measure your worth in numbers, should find no issues with the same. Of course, anything less than a full score will prove to be unsatisfactory.

The first 15 minutes are to be spent only reading the questions. Do not get ahead of yourself. Remember that you have always played the long game. The lover is the one who waits. Is that not what they all say? Not that would know anything about such superficial sentiments. You are simply used to bidding for your time.

You may use the remaining hours to write down your answers. Try not to have as many regrets this once.

Notes:

a few end notes:

1) The English translations for the SUB songs were, of course, taken from WhataFruit and the ALNST Wiki. For the My Clematis conversation, the original IvanTill My Clematis cover on YouTube had the English translation included, but they have since reuploaded it onto their new channel without the same. I'm mostly going by memory and references to the translations included in the R1 video.

2) I want to stress that I do not want to make My Clematis into an IvanTill song/series of moments by any means. I included the dialogue because I wanted to highlight IvanTill's projection and idealization of MiziSua. Please read this wonderful thread and the interesting conversation between @/hollistwric and @/sangatsumi in the replies it was inspired by.

3) I did a Mizi math paper fic previously (here, if you're interested :D), but I really wanted to do an English one for Ivan, whose interest in both literature and human interactions interests me so much. You could say words are his strongest and weakest suit.

4) I really wanted to make the punctuation questions have a double meaning with the change in punctuation (such as the "I'm afraid"), but I wasn't able to think of any :( I'll do my best to be cleverer in the future.

5) I consider my more experimental works different than my other fics, so I really appreciate the people who give them a chance. Thank you so much for your endless kindness and support. It means the world to me.
