Work Text:
The lounge was luxurious in nature, but in a way that spoke softly as opposed to singing of riches from the rooftops. Simply named “The Base”, it had become a hotspot for celebrities all across the cosmos to wind down, enjoy a few drinks, and of course, enjoy a performance.
Jimmy had never been before that night. The city was unfamiliar to him, the shining purple and blue lights almost overwhelming him when he first stepped foot onto the bustling streets. He had been invited many times by fellow performers, and tonight, he finally caved.
If only his fellow performers had stayed by his side. Instead, Jimmy found himself alone at a small and sleek table with none of his friends to share a drink with. They had all found pretty people to coddle up to in the darker corners of the lounge, hidden away from prying eyes.
Though perturbed, he stayed at his table. A few rows back away from the stage, with his feet kicked up onto an empty chair and a drink in his hand, Jimmy watched as a beautiful woman in glittery and feathered clothing delivered a burlesque performance.
She was cute, that much was for sure. The crowd certainly seemed to think so, as cheers and whistles echoed through the air whenever another layer of clothing was dramatically lost in a flourish of brass trumpets and glitter. Her smile was like sunshine, her eyes like gemstones.
Still, Jimmy found himself almost bored. With no one to talk to and no one to joke with, how was he meant to fully enjoy himself?
The burlesque performance comes to a close, the beautiful woman sauntering her way off stage in little more than heels and enough glitter to blind more sensitive eyes. Jimmy watches as stage hands scurry onto stage, even before the curtains have closed, in preparation for the next act.
“Amatures.” Jimmy can’t help but scoff slightly under his breath. Surely The Base could afford stage hands that weren’t so clumsy?
He waves over a polite waiter, who delivers him another glass of alcohol. ’One more show’, he thinks to himself, ’and then I’m leaving’.
After a few minutes, most of which Jimmy is certain was spent sweeping glitter off of the stage, the band starts up a quiet and jazzy number. Bouncing piano notes mixed with sensual brass stirs a delightful intro.
“Ladies, gentlemen, and those of other disposition,” A gentle voice speaks through the lounge's speakers, the same voice that had been announcing every performance for the night. “It is my pleasure to introduce you all to the luxurious and luminous singer, Moon.”
Before the curtains even open, a rich and baritone voice quietly teases the intro of a song in a low hum, earning claps and cheers from the audience. Jimmy found himself hooked immediately, a stark contrast to his previously diluted state. His feet slide off the neighbouring chair and his eyes are immediately drawn to the stage, eagerly awaiting the reveal of just who owned that voice.
The music swells, and as Jimmy glances around, he can see that he's not the only one. Many other people seem to be quite excited for this show. Perhaps they already knew this person?
The curtains slide open, revealing a tall silhouette backlit by deep purple lights. A long tail flicks out, and Jimmy’s eyes follow the alluring movement.
When the spotlight finally shines on the performer, Jimmy has to muster all of his strength to not allow his jaw to drop.
This man, Moon, was devilishly handsome. Unfairly, devastatingly handsome. Jimmy was not the only one to think so, as the eruption of commotion from the spectators was proof enough of his beauty.
His hair loosely hung to his shoulders, the luscious locks a beautiful colour that reminded Jimmy of lavender flowers. He had well groomed facial hair, a strong jawline, and pointed ears. He was adorned in a perfectly tailored outfit, with dark dress pants, a dark button up, and a vest decorated in purple embroidery that seemed to glow in the stage lights.
Jimmy plants his chin in his palm, his eyes wide as he scans Moon up and down. Every curve seemed to draw him in.
Moon smiles, seemingly revelling in the attention, his grin cocky and handsome in equal tandem. And then, he sings, and Jimmy had to wonder what good deeds he had done in a previous life to earn the privilege.
Moon exuded talent and luxury, low and sultry notes filling the air. He sang a song of a romantic and sensual nature. Jimmy had to wonder if Moon was a siren.
Moon takes the mic off of its stand and starts to walk his way off the stage. Jimmy watches with rapt attention as he makes his way to various tables, smiling and waving as he sings, leaning over to gently lay a hand on a visitor's arm.
Every step exuded absolute confidence. Every touch, every glance, purposefully planned to pull reactions from the crowd. Young women giggled and smiled, trying to contain squeals of delight.
Moon spends about half the song not even on stage, instead opting to show off like a beautiful bird amongst the audience. One man even cheekily offers Moon some money, to which Moon smirks, winks, and tucks the note into his vest for safe keeping.
Jimmy follows his every move, licking his lips almost hungrily. His friends should have led the invitations with this - Jimmy would have absolutely accepted had he known such a fine gentleman would be here.
He watches as Moon leans on a nearby table, sprawling out and taking up space, like he owned the lounge itself. He may as well be kissing the mic as he finishes his song, a rich note being drawn out in a lovely finish. Jimmy found his eyes drifting to Moon’s lips. He blamed the alcohol.
The crowd claps and cheers, Jimmy clapping along with them. He couldn’t take his eyes off of Moon, not even for a moment.
Moon stands himself up straight, smiling widely and blowing kisses to those around him. He was practically glowing. Clearly, performance was his calling, music his very essence, applause his lifeblood.
Then his eyes drift to Jimmy’s table, to Jimmy himself, and all time seems to still for a fraction. A very stutter in the passing of seconds. Jimmy’s heart jumped so hard that it almost hurt.
Moon smiles, and Jimmy thinks to himself again that he must be a siren. He must be a dangerous creature, luring men in with beauty to do unthinkable things to them.
Jimmy didn’t hate the idea. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad, letting Moon lure him inch by inch into danger.
Moon saunters his way over, until he is right across the table from Jimmy. Stars above, he was tall. Jimmy looked up at him with wide eyes, swallowing as Moon leaned his elbows on the table to lower himself to Jimmy’s level.
“Did you like the show?” Moon asks. His speaking voice was just as lovely to listen to as his singing voice.
Jimmy could only muster a nod. He was glad he had forgone his jester's hat that day, as he was sure the jingling from the bells would have made him look even more foolish in front of Moon.
Moon smiles, showing off his perfect white teeth. Jimmy swears he could see pointed canines.
“Would you like to see more?” Moon practically purrs.
“Uh… yeah.” Jimmy manages to awkwardly get out. He can’t remember the last time he had felt this utterly starstruck by someone.
“What’s your name, cutie?”
“Jimmy.”
“I’ll be here again next week.” Moon says as he reaches into his pants pocket and pulls out a card, offering it to Jimmy between two fingers. “But it would be really nice to hear from you before then. Don’t you agree, Jimmy?”
Jimmy would do nearly anything just to hear his name fall from Moon’s mouth again.
As Jimmy takes the card from Moon, he can hear jeering and wolf-whistling all around him. He was suddenly incredibly aware of all the eyes on them, watching the ordeal as if it were an extension of the performance itself.
With that, Moon turns and heads back to the stage as the drummer starts toying with his symbols and a clarinet riffs. He takes a grand and dramatic bow as he places the mic back onto its stands, and once again, the curtains slip closed, leaving only casual jazz music to play until the next performer takes the stage. Moon’s glowing allure slowly dissipated, allowing Jimmy space to finally breathe.
Jimmy looks down at the card in his hand. It was a business card of sorts, one that Jimmy assumed was used for bookings. A print of Moon’s signature was scrawled beautifully on the back, right next to several contact details.
He was left reeling with the fact that he had completely and accidentally scored the phone number of one of the most frustratingly handsome men he had ever seen in his life. There was a slight tremble in his hands, and he could feel the burning blush in his cheeks.
Jimmy could hardly wait for his next opportunity to visit The Base.
