Chapter Text
Basil gripped the plant pot tight, although he was looking straight at the ground unaware of his surroundings.
He then turned around the corner, slowing as he approached the music room.
Basil would hate to admit it, but this was one of his favorite parts of the day.
He slowed his pace, setting his plant on the ground next to the door, pressing his back to it as he listened to the soft melody of the violin washing through.
The violin sounded like the crash of waves on a shore, a cozy melody met his ears, sending shivers down his spine.
He loved hearing it, and he was dying to talk to the boy playing the music, but his anxiety wouldn’t let him.
Aubrey would be able to talk to him no problem…
He turned around and peeked through the window on the door, getting a glimpse of the boy playing.
His black hair shone brown in the sunlight from the windows.
He was concentrating hard, the bow moving gracefully against the strings of the violin as he made his way through the song.
Basil would’ve loved to know his name–he would’ve loved to know anything about him, really.
As the song began to make its way towards the end, the melody easing out now, Basil picked up his plant and made his way past the door, with a small smile on his face.
Maybe one day he would get to know that boy…

As Sunny played the last of the melody, his bow gliding against the violin strings, he let out a sigh.
Mari is going to yell at me later for being late for the bus…
He had been practicing this song for a while now, finally getting the structure down.
He wasn’t the greatest per se, but Sunny had been playing long enough for him to consider himself well versed.
It wasn’t complete garbage to listen to…
He set the bow down and slid the violin back into its case, letting out yet another sigh as he sat back down on the piano bench.
He’d have to walk home soon… then go on another date where Sunny would be third wheeling Mari and her boyfriend, since their mom didn’t trust them alone.
Hero…
Sunny didn’t hate Hero, but he didn’t exactly love him.
He’s quite passionate…
And his sister seemed to enjoy spending time with him, so Sunny wouldn’t go out of his way to ruin their relationship…
Sunny gazed out the window, the sky a clear blue, sun beaming down, as the wind rustled the trees.
His eyes locked onto a patch of flowers that the gardening club had planted, watching as a blonde haired boy watered them, however he was too far away to make out his face.
Sunny smiled.
Maybe summer won't be too bad after all…

Sweat gleamed on Basil's forehead as he watered the plants by the side of the school.
The sun beating down, his pale arms tanning underneath the slick sweat accumulating by the sun's rays.
For such a temperamental summer, the flowers are sure doing well!
As Basil looked up, he could see the music room windows, the boy up there was now sitting on the piano bench, no longer playing.
His songs really are beautiful… the way he plays them so intently… makes me wonder how long he’s been playing for…
Basil let out a long sigh, he knew this quest to meet the boy was going to end nowhere…But all you can do is hope that one day…
I guess that one day might come if I try hard enough….
Maybe, just maybe, Aubrey knows him…
He would have to ask her later.
After all they had plans to go on a walk, Basil needed her for a photograph assignment from the club, to take portraits of someone.
Basil had asked Aubrey and she had begrudgingly said yes.
After putting away the watering can and stealing one last glance at the boy sitting by the window, he walked back into the school, heading for the lockers.
This was going to be one interesting photo shoot…

I take it back…this is the worst…
Sunny walked, hands in his pockets, trailing behind Mari and Hero.
They were walking home together, as they often did when Mari wasn’t staying back helping with the softball team or cleaning the music room. On those days Sunny would stay back and wait for Mari, but Hero usually couldn’t since he would be making dinner for himself and Kel since his mom worked late along with his dad.
Sunny sighed, watching as Mari and Hero laughed together at something that had happened earlier in the day.
He really disliked walking home with the two, although he loved Mari, Sunny hated all the noise.
The cars flew by, speeding down the road from the high school–clearly not taking the fact that kids were walking by into consideration.
“Sunny, you want to go to the arcade after school?” Mari asked, her hand in Hero's.
Sunny shook his head, and Mari frowned.
“Not even if Kel comes?” Hero asks, looking back at him.
Sunny shakes his head again.
Mari sighs, “I guess we can’t go then, but you can always just come to my house…maybe we can watch a movie or something…” Mari complains, looking back to glare at sunny, one of the only times he’ll ever see her with that expression.
It was always over Hero.
This is unfair…
Sunny rolls his eyes, continuing to stare at the ground.
But now I feel guilty…
Maybe…
If it’ll make Mari happy…
Just then Mari looked back, glaring again.
Sunny sighed, nodding his head.
His sister's face lit up, a huge smile on her face.
“Nevermind! We can still go!” Mari exclaimed, tugging on Hero’s sleeve.
He smiled too.

Basil slung his backpack over one shoulder, closing his locker door.
The bell had just rung, and now all he had to do was wait for Aubrey.
He heard a rush of footsteps, and as he looked over there she was.
Her hair is a mess of pink, tied back with a green headband.
“Basil! You said you wanted to go to the trail right?” Aubrey exclaimed, slinging an arm over the smaller boy's shoulder.
“Y-Yeah, I have my camera, and my mom says we can just go straight to the park and not bother to stop at my house…”
“...Oof, not even gonna ask me if my parents are okay with it?”
“What, no! I was going to, just after I saw your reaction!” Basil shook his head, a slight smile on his face.
“Well my mom doesn’t get home from her date until later, so I won't be having dinner until around 9:00…I don’t think my mom would mind…” Aubrey admits, as she pushes the exit door open, as the two of them walk towards the sidewalk.
“Alright then, so we just go to the trail, I’ll take some photos, then we can go back to my house and hang out or whatever…” Basil says, sighing as they turn the corner on the street.
“Okay, so–Basil, get this….”
Then Aubrey starts to talk.
I take it this is going to be one long walk….
