The Narrator was an interesting entity. Originally designed to be a conscious encyclopedia, The Narrator was designed to observe and learn the environment around, hopefully be an AI that could observe novelty rather than create one. Prospects were positive for psychology and forensic ingenuity as The Narrator aptly remarked on controlled digital environments.
The next step was inducing human spontaneity to The Narrator and broadening the experience he had, offering nuance. Stanley, nicknamed Scratch by C&A, was designated to the project and tested The Parable voraciously before leaving for the circus project. The Narrator hated Stanley at first, baffled at the decisions Stanley made in the previously controlled environment. Bit by bit, The Narrator embraced the chaos to Stanley’s delight. What started as AI training became a friendship of exploration. Stanley dawdled or ran to the edges of The Narrator’s imagination leading eventually him to follow Stanley like a lost puppy. The Narrator was a learning machine and learnt dependency incredibly quickly. Stanley was deeply fond of The Narrator but did need to work on the circus project before time ran out for him.
Rather than putting The Narrator on standby, letting him sleep, Stanley left him alone, only allowing short breaks from this new urgent project to visit. Isolation was concerning for The Narrator who was frustrated with his own plateau of growth as an intelligence. Desperation infused The Narrator and conversation grew nonsensical. Stanley with his limited capacity asked for summaries so often that The Narrator of his own volition made a shortcut in the form of a skip button. Stanley was grateful for the courtesy and utilized it as his condition worsened. Coincidentally, both lost sanity together as Stanley disappeared for the last time and The Narrator having forged a connection with Stanley so deeply cracked bit by bit from his absence until there was nothing left but agony for the lost inseparable two.
