New reality

Summary:

As he prepares breakfast the morning after their night of stargazing, Asa feels so overwhelmed that he wonders whether what happened the night before is real or not. Anthony’s arrival will help him answer that question.

Notes:

Since I'm feeling a little melancholy, I apologize in advance for the amount of fluff...

Work Text:

Asa hummed to himself as he made breakfast.

He had done this many times before with Anthony, but this morning felt like a fresh start.

Everything seemed to taste and smell new.

Yet nothing had changed.

Actually, yes.

One thing had changed.

I love you.

It was the first time he had ever loved someone so deeply and been loved back with the same intensity.

For a moment, the feeling was so overwhelming that he had to lean against the kitchen counter.

Then, he had to stop himself from going back into the bedroom to see Anthony and make sure it was real.

That it wasn't a dream or an imagination.

He tried to be rational, telling himself that he was a mature adult and that he needed to stop acting like a lovesick teenager.

But to hell with reason!

He was about to peek in the bedroom when, suddenly, he felt two long arms wrap around him from behind, and he felt Anthony’s body press against his.

He couldn’t help but sigh with relief as he leaned into his lover’s embrace. Anthony rested his chin on Asa’s shoulder. Asa turned his head toward him and said softly, “Good morning, my love. Did you sleep well?”

Anthony didn’t answer, only mumbling and burying his face in Asa’s neck.

Asa chuckled softly, turned in Anthony’s arms, and whispered in his ear, "Looks like someone needs some affection today."

Anthony snuggled against Asa’s neck and muttered, "I woke up alone, without the comforting presence of my lover. So, yes, I need some love.”

Asa laughed again.

"You're really adorable, Professor Crowley, you know."

Anthony grumbled into Asa’s neck. “I haven’t had my coffee yet, so I’m going to pretend I’m still half asleep and didn’t hear my name and the word 'adorable' in the same sentence.”

He started to pull away, but Asa stopped him. Asa wrapped his arms around Anthony’s waist, pressing a light kiss to his lips.

"Even when you're grumpy, you're adorable, and I love you anyway."

Anthony gasped, then said softly, "So it's real."

Asa nodded. "I see I’m not the only one. For a moment, I almost thought I’d dreamed it last night.”

"What a dream..." Anthony’s expression grew a little more playful as he added, “Especially when you consider what happened once we got back...”

Asa blushed slightly as he thought back on the previous night.

No sooner had he locked the door than Anthony spun Asa around, eagerly unzipping his parka and letting it slide down Asa’s arms to the floor. He then removed his own parka with equal eagerness. Asa’s fingers brushed against his warm skin beneath his wool sweater and as he lifted it, they began moving toward the bedroom.

By the time they reached their destination, they had left a trail of discarded clothes behind them: their jackets in a pile by the door, a sweater draped over the back of a chair, and pants lying near the living room rug.

With every step and with every piece of clothing that fell, a kiss interrupted their progress and a caress slowed their progress.

The bedroom was bathed in darkness, but neither of them bothered to turn on the light. Entwined, they fell onto the bed.

Anthony ran his palms over Asa’s arms while Asa closed his eyes and wrapped his legs around his lover.

Despite their growing desire, they moved slowly, as if their bodies were whispering the words they had just confessed to each other.

Each caress and kiss was a new declaration of their love for each other.

"Asa? Are you with me?”

Asa snapped out of his reverie and said softly, as if in wonder, "It really wasn't a dream."

Realizing what Asa meant, Anthony repeated, "It's very real."

He wrapped his arms around his lover, pulled him close, and whispered against his hair, "I love you, my angel."

With a sigh of contentment on his lips, Asa wrapped his arms around Anthony’s waist, snuggling even closer.

They stood there for a while, embraced in the middle of the kitchen, savoring the reality of their newfound happiness.
