Summary
You can't help but wonder how different your life would look if Joel had been the one to greet you at the gates of Jackson instead of your devoted husband, Tommy. Even as you try to kill off the persistent, suffocating guilt, you know you're fighting a losing battle against the crush on his brother.
The tension builds during an overnight stay at a patrol cabin. As the three of you settle in with a bottle of whiskey, a silent exchange passes between the brothers, and Tommy tells you to go have fun before heading out for first watch. Left alone, you and Joel spend the hours talking and laughing, just enjoying each other's company.
You try to hold the boundary you've spent years maintaining, but are taken by surprise when Joel shares exactly how Tommy feels about the two of you. The revelation shifts the atmosphere entirely, leaving you to confront an attraction you no longer have a reason to fight.

Or:
You’re trying to be a good wife, unaware that Tommy has spent a year trying to hand you over, waiting for you to get the memo — and for Joel to realize that loving you isn't a crime. -
