“What kind of superpower do you think you'd have?” Leon asks. He's laying on one of the couches in his basement, with his head propped up by a lumpy pillow. They'd just finished watching one of the superhero movies neither of them had gotten around to when it first came out.
“What are you talking about? I'm clairvoyant, man!” Hiro quickly defends his Ultimate honor from the other couch. He knows that's not what Leon means, though.
“Come on,” Leon insists, giving him a look. “Other than that.”
“I'd totally have, like, fire powers or something.” Leon carries on the conversation, regardless of Hagakure's involvement. “You can see it, right? They'd call me the ‘Flamethrower.’”
For a couple of Ultimates, it could hardly be considered delusions of grandeur. They could already be considered superhuman in their own right. It really wouldn't be so far from reality if Kuwata started pitching balls so fast they burst into flames.
Hiro nods along. When Leon got like this, sometimes it was better to just agree with everything he said, even if he sounded a little self-important. Hagakure never minded doing so. Leon usually let him ramble on about his nonsense, so they were even in that way.
“Well, I dunno, maybe super speed would be cool,” Hagakure suggests. Then he'd never be late to class! And when he got an upset customer, he could just get the heck out of there in no time!
“You're too much of a klutz for that.” Leon argues. He was quick to point out others shortcomings, but was ignorant when it came to his own.
“Yeah, that's probably true.” Hiro concedes. He already tripped over his feet enough as it was, and he's pretty sure his sandals would fly off his feet. So maybe super speed wasn't for him after all.
“I think you'd do better controlling the wind, or something.” Leon gave his take on the matter. “Y'know, ‘cause you're so…”
Hagakure wondered, sometimes, how Leon really saw him. Was this the insight he had been looking for?
Hiro braced himself, but Leon trailed off, like it was obvious what he meant, dooming Hagakure to thinking about this conversation every time he felt the cool air of a breeze.
Leon often invaded his thoughts, like that.
“I've always thought I'd like shapeshifting,” Hagakure gives what's probably his real answer, now that he's had time to think about it.
“Yeah, I could see that for you,” Leon nods along.
“That way I could really get into the mind of cryptids,” Hagakure explains, scratching his chin like he was really cooking up something. “I mean, there's no way I wouldn't find Bigfoot if I was Bigfoot.”
“Dude, that is by far the worst use of that power,” Leon chides, and Hagakure almost fights back, until he sees the smile on Leon's face.
