Misadventures in Pack Dynamics

Summary:

Kagome blinked at Kouga, her brain short circuiting as she tried to fully grasp what he was telling her. She could already feel a headache coming on as Kouga raised a perfectly groomed  eyebrow at her, silently asking her if she was okay.

Her left eye twitched. A habit that had developed during the feudal era, a few years after she mated Sesshomaru, and at least a decade after Inuyasha and Sesshomaru decided to call a truce and build their relationship.

Inuyasha and Sesshomaru needed to stop hanging out.

A series of drabbles and snippets told in a nonlinear format of life in the Feudal and Modern Eras as Sesshomaru and Inuyasha explore their ever evolving familial relationship much to the chagrin of their long suffering mates.

Chapter 1: Borneo

Chapter Text

Kagome blinked at Kouga, her brain short circuiting as she tried to fully grasp what he was telling her. She could already feel a headache coming on as Kouga raised a perfectly groomed  eyebrow at her, silently asking her if she was okay.

Her left eye twitched. A habit that had developed during the feudal era, a few years after she mated Sesshomaru, and at least a decade after Inuyasha and Sesshomaru decided to call a truce and build their relationship. If relationship could be considered the right word, they often operated more like frenemies.

She breathed out, okay.

"Can you please repeat this again?" Her voice came out tight as if she was keeping her temper at bay.

Kouga silently nodded, "Do you know where Sesshomaru is headed off to right now?"

"No."

"Inuyasha called me from the airport, he's on his way to Borneo."

"Borneo," Kagome echoed.

"Borneo." Kouga nodded as he confirmed what she had heard.

"Does he even know where Borneo is?" She asked.

"Doubt it."

"Why is he going?"

"He was told he was going to go see the orangutans."

"Does he even know what orangutans are?"

"Unlikely, he just said that Sesshomaru told him that they're on a mission to go save the orangutans."

"Save the orangutans? What does that mean?"

"I don't know, I have this feeling that he thinks he's going to go battle a demon."

"He took tensaiga?"

"I don't," Kagome was flabbergasted at both her mate and Inuyasha. It didn't matter how much time passed, Sesshomaru's favorite way to get under Inuyasha's skin was to trick him into going on trips and then mysteriously leave him as he watched Inuyasha nearly cause international incidents between the human and demon councils. She would think that after five hundred years Inuyasha would stop falling for it.

These little "pranks" by Sesshomaru started innocently enough. He'd egg Inuyasha onto go on side missions throughout Japan in search of various "hidden" objects that mostly turned out to be goose eggs that Sesshomaru hid along the way.

Then it escalated - drastically.

It started with Sesshomaru convincing Inuyasha to dedicate decades of his life in becoming a Catholic Cardinal in order to access the Vatican's secret files. Inuyasha was never granted access to these files for obvious reasons.

There was their journey to the "New World", where she had hurry to catch up to them before Inuyasha fully changed the trajectory of history by helping the English beat the patriots during the Revolutionary war.

Then, there was the time where Sesshomaru tricked Inuyasha into going to find the "Fountain of Youth", for what reason - it was still a mystery to her and Kouga as they would all live for ages to come.

After that came the years where Sesshomaru convinced Inuyasha to go explore the arctic circle, and then promptly left him.

Of course then came 1912 and Sesshomaru booked a ticket for Inuyasha to cross the ocean on the Titanic. After that, she really learned to keep her mouth shut about historical events. She had to stop inadvertently giving Sesshomaru ideas.

Now, they were on a private flight to Borneo to save the orangutans. Whatever that meant.

"So, we should probably book tickets to go to Borneo ourselves?" She asked Kouga.

He nodded, "that may be the best idea." He added grimly, "last thing we need is for him to impulsively clear a whole forest and accidentally slay all the orangutans."

"Should we add international incident preventors on our resumes?"

Kouga laughed, "No one would know what that even means. We're doing the world a service on the near constant basis without the world knowing our good deeds."

Kagome added wryly, "they kind of do. This is the right inspiration that I need for the next children's book."

"Ah yes, the follow up to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill that Inuyasha tried to solve by wind scarring the gulf."

Kagome cringed as she remembered that particular incident. Inuyasha and Sesshomaru needed to stop hanging out. She and Kouga had barely made it in time to stop Inuyasha from wiping out even more of the local wildlife and fauna.

Kagome walked towards her front door, Kouga following closely behind at her heels. She opened the hallway door and pulled out two overnight bags.

"Let's go."
