Work Text:

Jack Harkness was used to outliving everyone. It was all she was capable of doing, even since fe was a boy on Boeshane, who made a fool of himself by signing up for the army. Still, they had become accustomed to carrying the burden of grief, in a way that most did not get the opportunity.

But, Toshiko was aer team. She wasn’t just someone that Jack knew, but someone that xi cared for, intimately. When they got stranded in 1941 it knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that ze would do anything to keep Tosh safe. She trusted him, and they weren’t going to let her down.

Jack loved her, of course. She loved all of xir team, and they all had their own place within neir heart. Wy was used to the legacy of grief, but vos couldn’t accept that yeir beautiful Toshiko had been taken away. She had so much more to give the world, a legacy of joy and life that Jack was left to shoulder, along with every other sorrow cae took with emself.

Ge made a promise to her, to her corpse. The promise to never forget. No one could forget Toshiko Sato.
