Celebrate Your Pride

Summary:

Red wants to celebrate her bisexuality as she finally can. It’s pride month and she’s a little nervous but mostly excited.

She’s also a bit oblivious, no matter how hard Chloe tries. To Red, Chloe Charming is straight. When in reality, she was anything but.

Work Text:

Red proudly hug her bi flag over her bed.

The pink, purple and blue clashed with her usual red and black, but she didn't care. Her old mother never believed in love, no matter the gender, so she could never celebrate her bisexuality.

Now that she's in Auradon and her old mother no longer exists, she can finally celebrate her first pride month. It was a thing in Auradon that started years ago to celebrate queerness.

Some people still stuck in the old ways were unaccepting, but for the most part people are a lot more accepting than they use to be.

Chloe entered the dorm and put down her swords and shields bag. She grimaced at the shirt sticking to her from sweat and grabbed some clothes to shower.

"So, what do you think?" Red questioned, gesturing to the flag. She hadn't come out to Chloe yet, so she was a bit nervous for her reaction.

"Think of what?" Chloe questioned back before looking up to see Red pointing to the flag.

Her eyes widened but her face didn't immediately scrunch up in disgust so Red will take it as a win. In fact, she didn't do anything for a moment. Just stared at the flag with wide eyes.

Red raised a brow and snapped her fingers in front of Chloe's face, "Hello? Earth to Charming?"

Chloe's gaze finally snapped off the flag, "I just... didn't know you were bi."

Immediately Red's eye's hardened, "And is that going to be a problem?"

"What? No! Of course not! I was just surprised, I support you fully." Chloe said in a rush, because of course, Red didn't know her sexuality. It would be quite hypocritical of Chloe to be homophobic, considering she's lesbian.

Red's gaze softened, "Alright well, you still haven't told me what you think."

Chloe nodded, "Looks good. It clashes with your usual colors but in a way that makes it stand out. Happy pride month, Red."

Red smiles, tilting her head slightly to the side, "Happy pride month. Now go shower, you're stinking up the room."

Chloe rolled her eyes, but headed towards the bathroom. "It's quite rude to insult your roommate who just complimented your pride flag."

Red chuckled and hopped on her bed. She rested her head on her arms, looking at Chloe. "I can smell you from here!"

She plugged her nose to prove her point. Chloe rolled her eyes again before finally going into the bathroom. She smiled after closing the door behind her.

Red was bisexual, that means she at least had a chance. It was still slim, considering Chloe is miss goody goody and Red probably goes for the rebel kids.

Despite her chance being low, at least she had one. Unlike her last crush. She shivered at the thought of her.

— — —

Chloe was too nervous to outright come out to Red, since she had a huge crush on her.

She'd tried to deny herself from liking Red, but after finding out she was bisexual, the feelings were getting harder to ignore.

Looking at Red knowing there's a very very slim chance she returns Chloe's feelings made her heart race. Not only had she fallen for Red, but she'd fallen hard.

— — —

Step 2 of celebrating her bisexuality was hanging out with other queer people.

But the only problem with that, was she didn't know any. Chloe was really her only friend, and hadn't shown any signs of being queer.

If she was gay she would've come out when she saw Red's flag, right? She would've known by now if Chloe was gay. She kinda wished she was.

But it didn't matter, Chloe was straight, Red shouldn't go that path. She can't fall for someone who could never love her, it would hurt too much.

She already grew up with that. Despite how hard she tried, Red couldn't help but love her mother. She tried to stop, but her stupid little heart didn't agree with her.

The Princess of Hearts couldn't control her own.

It was quite ironic.

But now, the Queen was sweet Bridget, who had all the love to give. She kissed Red's cheek affectionately because she loved her daughter.

It was nothing like the harsh peck her mother would give her, to stamp her approval on her daughter's face. Red never liked making her proud, even though a small part of her was pleased, it never made up for the cost.

When Red made her mother proud, it usually meant death.

But now, her mom told her she was proud of her simply for getting an A on an art project. And when Red came out as bisexual, she waved a hand at her and told her she was too.

That most people in Wonderland liked all genders.

While maybe it was a thing before, Red wouldn't have ever known. Romantic affection in public was banned before, and even if it wasn't, Red wasn't allowed to leave the castle.

Though perhaps it was something she could've learned at night. Going to bed with a pretty lady or handsome man.

She flushed at the thought, but when the lady appeared with blue hair she had to clear her mind. Red got up abruptly and left the room. She had to get her mind on something else, like finding queer friends.

But Red wasn't the type to just go up to anyone, so she had to find a club. She knew exactly the person to ask, and headed straight for her.

— — —

Chloe was outside, reading a book under a tree. She looked peaceful as she read, a cute pair of glasses resting on her nose.

Red shook that thought out of her head and approached the younger girl. "Hey Chloe. Are there any gay clubs?"

Chloe didn't respond for a moment, her focus still on the book. Then she paused and put the book down. "There's GSA. I can take you there if you like, there's a meeting right now."

Oh, Red wasn't expecting that. She scratched the back on her neck nervously, but agreed. "Yeah, okay."

The blue haired girl led her to the classroom where GSA was held. Chloe had never been, but she knew a few people who attended.

It didn't take long to get there. When they entered one of Chloe's friends greeted them and welcomed them in.

"Thanks for showing me, Chloe." Red said, then went to walk away.

Chloe grabbed her arm and Red gave her a confused look. "Aren't you going?"

The blue haired girl returned the look, "No? I was gonna stay, with you." Maybe that was a little too much to say, maybe she was being too obvious.

Red put a hand on her arm, "You don't have to stay for me. It's fine, I need to branch out on my own anyway, make new friends."

Chloe swallowed, "Yeah, okay. Have fun Red."

The taller girl smiled, "I will, bye Charming."

Chloe left quietly. She was hoping to stay, excited to make more friends with Red. And then maybe Red would realize that she's queer too.

But she wasn't expecting Red to obviously not want her there, which hurt. It was mostly queer students who attended, but GSA literally meant gay-straight alliance.

But wait, does Red know what GSA stands for?

That was a bit of a mistake on Chloe's part, she hadn't exactly explained. Maybe she just thought Chloe was straight and wouldn't want to be there.

There had to be some way of showing Red she was lesbian. Without like, kissing her or something. That would probably be too much at once, and she isn't even sure if Red likes her like that.

It's not like Chloe was bold enough to just kiss her anyway. She got nervous enough just standing near Red. Sometimes when Red got close, her heart would race and her palms would sweat.

Instead of going back to her room, Chloe went to one of the spots her friends usually hung out. Aziz, Dizzy and Celia were there, sitting and chatting.

When Dizzy saw Chloe she gestured for her to come over with a smile. Chloe smiled back and sat with them. "Don't you and Celia go to GSA?"

Dizzy nodded, "Yeah, Celia didn't want to go today. So we're just chilling with Aziz."

Chloe nodded, "Red joined GSA."

Dizzy smirked, knowing about her crush. She tilted her head, "Oh? So Red is queer then."

Chloe flushed, lightly pushing her cousin. Her excuse for not confessing was that Red was straight, but obviously she knew now she wasn't.

"You're not going to let this go, are you?" Chloe whined, already knowing the answer.

Dizzy shook her head a smirk forming on her face, "You have to confess to her! I'm telling you she likes you back, her being bi just proves it."

Chloe looked at Celia for help but the girl only shrugged. The blue haired girl groaned, "Just because she's bi doesn't mean she likes me."

"Well... she acts really different towards you, Chlo," Aziz chimed in, a sheepish smile on his face.

Chloe gave him a hard glare, making the boy gulp. He's a bit scared of her after he'd made a comment he didn't know was bad and she threatened him.

Aziz apologized profusely, and explained he thought the word meant something else. Chloe calmed down after he explained, but she still terrified him.

"She doesn't act different about me and if she does it's just because I'm her best friend. I'm telling you, I doubt Red likes me," Chloe said, as much as it hurt.

Dizzy frowned, "Well how do you know that if you don't try? Have you told her you're lesbian?"

Chloe shook her head, "I was too nervous to when she came out to me. I tried to hint it but I don't really know how."

Celia leaned forward, "Then we'll help you, Charming. You helped Dizzy with me, it's only fair."

Dizzy smiled, "Yes! We'll help you get with Red, right Aziz."

Aziz nodded, "Yes, we'll all help you. Have you done anything to hint at it so far?"

Chloe huffed, "No I tried to go to GSA with her but she turned me away at the door. I don't know why, she didn't say."

Dizzy shrugged, "Doesn't matter. Now let's brain storm, what are ways we can show Chloe's queer?"

— — —

When Red came back from GSA, Chloe was sitting in their room reading a queer book, listening to Girl in Red.

Smoking cigarettes on the roof

You look so pretty and I love this view

"Hey Red, how was the meeting?" Chloe questioned, holding the book cover so she could see. The image was just two girls legs in roller skates, with their hands touching. But the title being She Gets The Girl, gave it away.

"It was good. I made a few friends." She said, not noticing the book.

Don't bother looking down, we're not going that way

At least I know, I am here to stay

Chloe held back a frustrated sigh as Red settled into her bed, she still had a chance with the song. Hopefully Red would hear the song and question Chloe about it. Or preferably, just figure out she's gay.

We fell in love in October

That's why I love fall

Chloe almost felt like she was in the song as she watched Red open her sketchbook and begin to draw.

Looking at the stars

Admiring from afar

My girl

My girl

My girl

Red didn't look up or react at the lyrics. She just kept doodling in her notebook. Chloe frowned and just went back to reading her book, she wanted to finish it anyway.

My girl, my girl, my girl

You will be my girl

My girl, my girl, my girl

Chloe's gaze snapped from the book to Red, willing her to react. But she doesn't, she just keeps drawing. Either she wasn't listening to the song, or wasn't hearing the lyrics.

The blue haired girl huffed and closed her book. She laid down in her bed, watching as she drew.

Red's eyebrows were furrowed and the tip of her tongue was poking out of her mouth just the smallest bit. She always did that when she was really focused, probably into her drawing to really hear the song.

But it's fine, Chloe and her friends just needed a new idea.

You will be my girl

My girl, my girl, my girl

You will be my girl

My girl, my girl, my girl

And you will be my world

My world, my world, my world

You will be my girl

Chloe's next plan was to put a rainbow pin on her backpack.

She had one from a pride festival she attended last year with Dizzy. Chloe got it out from her drawer and pinned it on the front of her backpack.

Red usually trailed behind her if the hallways were really busy, so she was almost guaranteed to see it. Chloe yawned, looking over at the sleeping redhead.

It was still 5 in the morning, way too early for the rebel. If it was up to Red, she wouldn't wake up until noon. But classes started at 8, so she couldn't sleep in that much.

Chloe did her morning run and got ready for school then woke up her roommate. While Red got ready, Chloe read more of She Gets The Girl.

After they were both ready, they grabbed their backpacks and headed out. The hallways were busy, so Red trailed behind her, holding onto her backpack so she didn't get lost in the crowd.

If she was the pin, she didn't say anything. They got to the cafeteria then got breakfast and sat down. No one else was there yet, Chloe had woken up Red a little earlier in hopes she'd ask about the pin.

After they placed down their food, Red finally mentioned it. "It's sweet of you to put a rainbow pin on your backpack for me. Do you have another one?"

Chloe wanted to shake Red's shoulder and just scream that she was lesbian. But she didn't, instead she smiled and pulled the pin off her bag.

"Just take them one, I'll get another," Chloe said and Red smiled at her, grabbing the pin.

"Thanks Charming," she said, pinning the flag to her bag.

Another day, another failed attempt. Chloe really thought she'd win with this one, but it seems Red's more oblivious than she thought.

— — —

Chloe painted her nails the colors of the lesbian flag.

Maybe that was a bit too obvious, but she was getting desperate. The rainbow pin was also pretty obvious, yet Red thought it was for her.

Now there was no way for confusion, Red was bi not lesbian and why would Chloe paint her nails those colors unless she was?

This had to be it, this would definitely make Red finally figure it out. Chloe tapped her nails against the desk, impatiently waiting for Red to get back from art club.

When the red haired girl entered, Chloe smiled brightly. She bounced up to the other girl and held out hands, "Do you like my nails."

Red looked over them for a moment in silence, her eyes studying them. She looked at the nails curiously, "They look nice. I like them."

That was it? She liked them? Not why are they the lesbian flag colors?

Red hummed and kicked off her shoes before collapsing into her, "Hey wanna watch a movie? I'm bored."

Chloe didn't let her disappointment over the nails not working show, and sat down beside Red. "Sure, what would you like to watch?"

Red shrugged, "I don't care. You pick Charming."

Chloe knew exactly what movie to put on. She smiled before clicking on 'But I'm a Cheerleader.'

Red frowned, "I don't think I'm going to like a movie about cheerleading, Princess."

"No, no, you'll like this one. Trust me." Chloe said, a smile on her face.

Red didn't say anything else and instead got comfortable. She watched the first bit of the movie inattentively, not really liking it so far.

Until it was revealed that Megan was gay.

She snapped her head towards Chloe, eyeing the other girl curiously. She watched the rest of the movie with her full attention, especially when Meghan and Graham kissed.

She cheered at the end when the couple got away. Then she turned to Chloe with a smile, "That was a good movie. Have you ever seen it before?"

Chloe nodded, “Yeah I’ve seen it a bunch of times. I told you, you’d like this one.”

Red was quiet for a moment, studying Chloe. Her gaze dropped her nails the passed question oh over Chloe’s face.

She grabbed Chloe’s hand. “So what inspired this nails? These colors look a bit… familiar.”

The blue haired girl hummed, “Oh well it’s pride month. I’ve got to celebrate my pride don’t I?”

Red’s gaze shot up to her eyes, her own widening. She hummed, gently rubbing the skin around Chloe’s nails.

It was quite distracting, but Chloe tried not to let her face flush. Luckily her darker skin made it harder to see.

“So… you’re not straight then?” Red questioned, biting her lip.

Chloe swallowed thickly, her hands getting sweaty from nerves. “N-no I’m lesbian.”

It felt good to say after so long of Red thinking she was straight. Being back in the closet was weird, if only Chloe wasn’t such a chicken she could’ve confessed her sexuality earlier.

Red’s lip curled into a smirk. Gently, she grabbed Chloe’s face and leaned in. “Well, does that mean I can kiss you?”

Chloe nodded rapidly, making Red chuckled. She hovered for a moment, teasing Chloe. But the blue haired girl was too desperate to finally get that kiss she’d been waiting for, so she leaned in.

Their lips met in a soft kiss, both of them smiling into it. The kiss wasn’t fast or rushed, it was slow like they were testing each other’s lips.

The kiss deepened as Red dug her fingers into Chloe’s curls, moaning into the kiss. That caused her to shiver, the moan sending a rush of heat through her.

She kissed harder, liking Red’s bottom lip gently. In response, Red parted her lip and their tongues battled for dominance.

Chloe pinned Red’s tongue in her mouth then broke the kiss, her chest heaving. She studied Red’s flushed face and swollen lips with admiration.

“You look pretty,” Chloe said, it wasn’t intentional, it just slipped out.

The taller girl smiled, “You’re pretty too, Charming. Why do you think I kissed you?”

— — —

Dizzy sat next to the new couple with a huge smile, “It finally worked! Y’know Red, I can’t believe you thought that rainbow pin was for you.”

Red flushed in embarrassment and smacked Dizzy with her sketchbook, making the other girl laugh.
