Work Text:
It is a nice clear warm day with a comfortable chill breeze. The smell of yoyle berries consumes the smell of the city as Ruby and Book walk down the outskirts of Yoyle city to hopefully spend time with each other.
Ruby can start to feel her legs ache from the constant walking throughout the city. Her nerves started to spike the more tired she got “are we there yet?” Ruby yelled.
Book annoyingly turned around and said “how many times are you going to ask that? You will know when you get there.” Book turns back around with her arms crossed. She can admit this journey across the city would be much easier with the freesmart super van. Sadly Pencil wouldn’t let them drive it because she doesn’t trust them.
“Why doesn’t Pence Pence just let me drive!?” Ruby shouted but to her discomfort Book doesn’t even answer, she doesn’t even turn around. Ruby gets to thinking. Why can’t she do the thing she always does?
“Hey book it’s ok we don’t have the freesmart super van. Because we got the freesmart ultra SUPER VAN!!! Oh wait, it isn't there?” Ruby just looked back in Book's direction and she just faced palms almost hurting herself.
Ruby felt herself increasingly defensive and a little hurt, hitting much deeper than she thought it would have. “Well sorry that usually works you just say a cool van name and it just pops out of no we’re!”
As they continued to walk even though they didn’t say a single word to each other one thing was on their mind. They needed a break from walking, it would be nice if there was something fun that they can do to take a break without having the conditions of something that has been abandoned for 700 years like most things in this city.”
But then something big, fun shinny, seemed to catch Ruby’s eye like a magnet. The slides are bigger and twistier then you can imagine with water sliding down with a lazy wavy river flowing below it and over on the right there are huge water guns just waiting there, waiting for someone to control it and kill someone. And then in the front there is a huge watersplash place to get out all of your extra energy.
Ruby’s eyes was sprinkling with mini stars jumping up and down at the excitement rushing though her body unable to control herself
“BOOK!!!” Ruby screamed
Book quickly turns around in a state of panic “What!? What!?”
Ruby starts stomping her feet in excitement “there is a water park right there we need to go now!”
Book looks over with a condensing look in her eyes “um Ruby I’m a book and I have pages and the pages with all the beautiful information would get all ruined!”
Ruby just rolls her eyes and takes a massive sigh, takes a huge clear plastic bag out of her nonexistent jacket and covers Book from top to bottom and makes it so tight on Book that she starts suffocating under the plastic, almost accidentally swallowing parts of the bag with her extreme inhaling.
Ruby begins to internally freak out as she grabs her scissors and grabs the plastic bag near
Book’s suffocating mouth and cuts a big hole letting some air into the plastic bag.
Book intensifies her breathing in desperation, sucking in all of the air that was just lost, sounding like a dying dog.
Ruby just stands there watching with a big smile on her face “there you go, now you can get into the water park.”
Book just lays there on the concrete breathing heavily not fully sure if she is mad or still trying to survive, maybe both. “Ruby, what the hell is wrong with you? That felt like torture!”
Ruby takes a step back with an offended look on her face “wo there sister, I just wanted to fix your page’s problem which I did and also watch your language!”
Book takes a massive sigh trying not to lose it on another free smart member “ok, ok, I’m sorry.”
Ruby limbs begin to shake like an earthquake as the excitement escapes her body “ok come on Book lets go.”
“WAIT!” Book screech’s letting Ruby stop to a halt to look back at the screaming book “Ruby look at this sign! It says only children are allowed in the water park and if you enter while being over 13 you will get sued and even arrested. which is very extreme, BUT STILL!”
Ruby slightly lays back annoyed “come on Book that sign is just a card board box with black marker. some crazy bossy bot probably just put it there because they hate fun!”
Book eyes shifted towards the blue clear sky processing everything that was just said “well if yo—--“
Ruby didn’t even let Book finish immediately running towards the waterpark screaming “weee!!!” sprinting into the grass and past the bossy bot sign.
A robotic voice begins to speak up with either Ruby or Book able to pick up on where the robotic voice was coming from “overage object detected.”
Ruby stops in her tracks asking “who said that?” And then a trapped door opened right under her feet and she stayed there just doing nothing but looking at the Lava saying “uh oh.”
And then the gravitational pull of earth finally decided to do its physics and push her down into the lava Ruby let out an intense violent scream as she feels her whole body in extreme agonizing burning pain as her body quickly melts into the lava killing her.
Book stands there like a statue watching as the trap door closes itself turning back into the light calm grass blowing with the wind.
Book looks right and left to make sure nobody was nearby before she screams. “What the fuck!”
Book then looked over her surroundings again and whispered to herself “I hope nobody heard me.”
Timeskip —- Yellow Face knows how long
Book looks around still talking to herself “now we’re at the recovery center. Even though it’s all the way on the other side of the city!” Book screams out with an exhausted voice. Book started pouting with her tired legs slugged towards the floor “fuck me.” Book then types out Rubies name.
R-U-B-Y
And then started cranking as she watched Ruby’s body come out of the recovery center.
“Oh thank god” book said out of breath “now maybe we can go—“ but before Book could finish her sentence Ruby immediately started running away screaming “to the waterpark we go!” Leaving Book in the dust.
Book just stood there trying to finish her sentence before Ruby fully ran away “I meant go somewhere fun that won’t kill us!” But by that point it was already too late Ruby was gone.
Book just started running after her screaming “WAIT FOR ME RUBY!!!”
After a while Ruby finally stopped running and Book was able to catch up to Ruby. After that adrenaline rush they could both feel the smell of the yoyle berries going though their nostrils calming us down with that calming magical smell.
Thank god the smell doesn’t turn you into yoyle metal!
Ruby starts to feel tired again with the deadly UV lasers of the sun cooking her alive. Ruby almost forgot why she was even walking the way back to this water slide in the first place. She looked at Book with a tired glance and said “I’m tired.”
Book shook her head and rolled her eyes “uh Ruby the water park is only 2763 miles away!” Book said
Ruby flinched back a little with the surprise of the amount of stupidity that hit her “silly Book we are actually only 200 feet away.” Book was slammed out of her day dream and back into the real tough world of Yoyle city. “right! I mean 200 feet.”
When Ruby and Book both laid eyes on the waterpark again both of their eyes widened Ruby couldn’t keep her eyes off of the magnetic site with pure joy “Book we need to get on that waterpark by any means necessary!”
Book let out a nervous laugh in the middle of wanting to finally spend some good time with Ruby but also not wanting to walk all the way back to the recovery center again
“Yeah we just need to be very careful,” Book said nervously but Ruby was becoming so reckless that the word careful doesn’t even register in her mind.
“Whoever gets there last is a Leafy kisser.” Ruby shouted running towards the waterpark as Book was just left there in confusion.
Book whispered to herself “A leafy what now?”
Ruby runs past the warning sign and into the grass where she then stops right at the last second and the trap door to the lava opens right in front of her instead of right under her.
“Ha take that Lava!” Ruby shouted like the trap doors are actually alive, before she opens over and feels the ground shift a bit again and jumps over a couple of feet.
She looked back and realized she avoided another trap door into another pit of lava Ruby turns around walking to the water park saying “ha you think you can kill me again? I know your tricks now bossy bot killer!”
Book starts to look at Ruby with an impressed smile on her face. Maybe Ruby can get there without dying, Book thought to herself.
But right after she finished her thought she watched a huge spike all of sudden pop out of the ground and impaled Ruby between her legs, impelling her in half killing her instantly!
Book felt shivers running though her limbs looking at Ruby with her private stuck on the top of the spike and rest of her body falling back on the ground, her arms dislocating with her right eye falling out of her eye socket. Book watching the horror show yells “AWWWW! That looked painful!”
As Book was walking up the hill to recover Ruby her graphic death still stays on her mind. Just seeing how quickly Ruby died and then the aftermath of all of it. Book just hopes for Ruby’s sake that she died before she could feel the pain of her death.
After book typed in Ruby and cranked the recovery center Ruby came out again and said “Let’s try again” but book put both of her arms on Ruby’s whist with eyes that screamed that they had seen too much recently.
“Ruby you were just impaled by a spike and died. Please let’s just find something else to do.” Book said in a quiet but demanding voice.
Ruby pushes herself away from Book and says with a straight face with all seriousness “trust me I am desperate to get on that waterpark.” And then her face turned back into an expression full of joy and yelled “now let’s go Book!”
Time skip — back at the waterpark
Ruby facing towards the waterpark slowly gets into her running position and flashes towards the water park full force.
She memorized all of the specific traps and their exact locations from the last few attempts and swinged left and right
She runs faster and faster with all of the adrenaline rushing though her. She knows she can make it but then makes a sudden stop!
Ruby sees a nice beautiful yellow plant beginning to bloom into something completely different.
“Oh my god that is so beautiful!” Ruby Screams stomping her feet before turning to Book on the other side “Hey Book the plant is so pretty.”
Book thinks for a moment and says “I mean as long as it doesn’t look like the rude Flower then yeah!”
Ruby looks even closer to the plant and sees that a yellow tomato is growing from the top making Ruby jump in excitement “oh m g! It’s a yellow tomato! Come on, yellow tomato grow for me! Grow for me!”
And then as soon as the tomato grows to its full length the Tomato splits in half revealing a hidden saw blade and before Ruby can even react the saw blade turns on and jumps towards the center of her face!
Ruby can feel intense pain cutting though the center of her face feeling a thousand tiny knives cutting her at once Ruby makes an agonizing scream before shattering onto the floor again with nothing that remends of her.
Book just looks down onto the floor now not even disturbed at the cut up eyes and mouth of her friend in the distance. She kicks the floor hurting her foot “come on! I am a plant book! How did I not see that coming?”
After having to walk back to the recovery center, Book had enough! She knew that this was going to be the last time she was going to walk back up here.
Book honestly had no idea why Ruby was so interested and excited for this waterpark I mean all the water parks in the entire world we could go to it has to be the suicide park!
Book frustratingly puts in the name Ruby and starts cranking and as soon as Ruby hops out she immediately starts running back to the water park but Book grabs her with an intense amount of grip so Ruby would never escape her.
“Ruby, you are not going back to that place! It’s suicide and I am tired of recovering you all the time!”
Ruby mouth rounds up in offensive shock “You don’t think I’m good enough of a freesmarter for you to recover me?”
“No it’s not that it’s that, that water park is clearly a death trap! It says we are over aged so we probably just shouldn’t keep dying!” Book yells
Ruby sends off her adorable don't make me cry type of face with the pouty mouth and watery eyes “but it looks so fun.”
Meanwhile Book raises her voice “out of literally all of the water parks in the world which we can go to and looks much more impressive we have to go on that one!?”
Ruby turns around and crosses her arms “Well just because you don’t want me to go then I guess I have no choice but to get to that one water park without you!”
Book gives herself a face palm so deadly it might as well be a slap “are you serious Ruby!? I am not going to recover you again!”
Ruby just turns back to look at Book with a death stare “if you don’t recover me I will tell Pence Pence you're a traitor then demote you out of freesmart membership. After all, Pencil likes me more than you.”
Book takes a big sigh trying not to crash out on Ruby since after all being demoted from the alliance is the last thing she wants after she worked so hard to get on it “fine do what you want to do but I am just going to sit right here and I’m going to read myself.”
Ruby begins to frown the biggest frown her face can possibly make “so you're not going to the water park with me?”
“No Ruby I won’t!” Book roars in frustration “I am sitting right here!”
Ruby turns around and starts membering insults directed at Book, putting more pressure on her crossed arms.
As Ruby continued to walk away Book just stared into the horizon as she noticed the sun was starting to dip lower and lower throughout the day.
Book just layed on the grass head first looking up at the blue sky before it goes dark. I can't believe we wasted so much time on this bullshit. This was supposed to be the day me and Ruby. We were supposed to have fun together while we were away from the rest of the freesmart members and now the day feels almost wasted.
Book begins to open herself up with her left arm reading the words on her own pages. “Why am I doing this?” She whispered to herself “I already know every single word because I am literally the book but what else am I going to do now?”
Back at the Waterpark and at first Ruby just stands there being unable to look away from the Waterpark her eyes starting to glitter again, her mouth wide open.
Ruby knew she had to get to that Damn waterpark and that it would be nothing but worth it. After all of the agonizing deaths and having to be recovered by Book and that trickster yellow tomato she is finally going to get wet at that waterpark and have the best day of her life, with or without Book.
Ruby gets herself in position absorbing all of the energy in the atmosphere around her to not only sprint but to activate her brain to the best of her ability to dodge anything this bossie bot gives her. She is not going down without a fight.
Ruby counts in her head with a serious facial expression on her face.
‘3…2…1…GO!!!”
Ruby begins to sprint her way though the grass breaking the sound barrier she can feel the floor beneath her feet begin to shake. She knew from past experience the lava pits were going to open up right in front of her so she jumped as high and far as she could objectively jump.
She looked down and saw the lava right under her. In a split second her crystallized heart began pounding on her chest not knowing if she was going to make it or not. And then, at the tip of her toes she landed on the very edge of the ground barely escaping the pit of lava.
After that Ruby was able to jump over a few more lava pits before she began to slow down her run. She still had no idea how to avoid the spikes that will all of sudden impel her in the genitals.
Ruby could feel her intrusive thoughts get in the way, making her private parts feel uncomfortable with pain at the thought of getting impelled down there again. But she still doesn’t know how I can tell if it’s coming or not. Can you hear the spike coming out of the ground? Can you feel the ground move?
When Ruby took a few more steps all of a sudden Ruby see’s the tip of the spike come out of the ground and I immediately jumped back in panic but the spike became so big Ruby still almost got cut by the edge of it.
Ruby’s breathing is heavy and suffocating but immediately regained her composure and became determined to get to that damn waterpark!
Ruby starts speed walking keeping her eyes on the ground to spot the tip coming out of the ground again and when Ruby sees it again she uses her fast reflexes and jumps to the side avoiding the spike. After that she felt her confidence and ego begin to explode with a big smirk on her face. Facing the direction of the spike that tried to kill her.
She avoids a spike again and then another then she sees that she is all of sudden in a shaded spot and the spot is growing larger and larger so she jumps forward and narrowly escapes a several ton metal block from crushing her in an instant.
She screams at the box competitively “Ha Ha! You can’t kill me box!” And then she sticks her tongue out spitting at the metal. She starts jogging avoiding another trap. She sees the yellow follower again about to grow a yellow tomato but instead of getting excited waiting for it to grow Ruby is smarter and wiser than she was an hour ago.
She sprints past the death trap screaming “YOUR NOT GETTING ME THIS TIME PRETTY FLOWER!” As she flips it off.
She keeps spiriting as fast as she could, Ruby will tell you she was running the speed of light even though Book would have been smart enough to know that she would have been exaggerating.
Ruby began to hear some beeping and then it only got louder and louder and LOUDER!
Ruby sped up the fast knowing something was about to happen but before she knew it she felt an explosion right behind her and the force of it was so strong she could feel the invisible shock. The after wave lift her up into the air and pushes her to the pull creating a huge crack on her side almost ripping up her left eye.
Ruby screeches bloody murder holding on to the left side of her head making sure she doesn’t fall apart. “NO NO NO! I can’t die now! NOT NOW!!!”
But then she felt some water hit her right arm. She looked over and saw something spraying water on and that was when she realized.
SHE MADE IT!!!
“I MADE IT!!! I MADE IT!!! I MADE IT!!!” Ruby screams at the top of her lungs jumping up and down completely forgetting about the painful crack near her eye. The adrenaline was too overwhelming to bear.
She screams back outside the waterpark hoping Book can hear her “I TOLD YOU I COULD OF MADE IT!!! AND YOU COULD OF TOO!!!” She pauses a bit and then continues “YOU ARE MISSING OUT BOOK!” And then sticks her tongue out again but unsatisfying she had no response like Book couldn’t even hear her or was just ignoring her.
Ruby undoubtedly felt a bit annoyed but she couldn’t show that, not to her imaginary audience. She had to show how much fun she was about to have now that she finally made it.
Ruby begins to run though the moist slippery floor of the waterpark before climbing her way up the hard white stars all the way to the top of the water park and that was when she saw the tunnel and Ruby’s jaw hit the ground.
The inside of the tunnel looked dark but at the same time kind of lit up with an orange light going though the tunnel and as she looks down she can see the water flowing down waiting to give her the ride of her life.
Ruby sees a floaty and she gets on the inflated smooth floaty as she begins to rock herself back in worth, making as much momentum as possible before she finally pushes herself and flies into the tunnel.
Ruby could feel herself bouncing though every single corner with her floaty as she screams all the way down the water slide and then it gets lighter as she gets to the bottom of the tunnel exposing the crystal to sunlight once more.
She then lands into the pool of water with Ruby almost falling out of her floaty but despite almost falling out Ruby was way too excited to ever think about such an inconvenience and shouted at herself out loud “again!!!” And then runs up again.
After her 4th time on the water slide she went to carry her floaty though the lazy river where she got to relax the stressful boobytraps away making the lazy river even more worth it, as she is enjoying the waves picking her up and down.
She then gets to the splash area and begins to run though the tubs let the water pressure hit her whole body. She couldn’t explain why but it was always really fun running though the tub of the splash area. After Ruby was done getting wet at the water splash area she could feel her crystal self felt as clean and clear as you can get for a red ruby like her.
But emotionally a train was about to hit Ruby right in the face smashing her in pieces like all of those traps she was so desperate to get around.
The wind around her started to feel cold, colder than it was all day. The wind didn’t pick up, it wasn't more aggressive, it still feels kind of light but just colder. For the first time in a long time Ruby finally looked around at her surroundings and saw everything was dark and the sky was pitch black not even having a moon giving it some light.
Ruby thought to herself “there is no way it’s night already? I felt like I just got here, right Book?” Ruby thought she was going to hear a tired laugh or a “yeah time goes by quick when you're having fun.” But she heard nothing. Absolutely nothing whatsoever but the slight hum of wind.
For someone this place didn’t feel right without the sound of Book’s voice even if she is nagging all the time. But at least Ruby can look on the bright side of the night. At least there is still one more thing Ruby can enjoy before she actually leaves this special place. The water guns area.
The water guns area is perfect because you can use your imagination for whatever you want like how me and my sister gems used to raid each other's bases with nerf guns. I ran up towards one of the water guns ready to aim it right at Book’s face. Luckily I got the plastic around him so I don’t ruin his precious covers.
But Book is nowhere to be seen, no we're to play with, no we’re to have fun with. Ruby just sat there thinking of something to do. After giving some deep thought to her predicament Ruby came up with a solution which seemed smart at the moment.
She could easily just imagine Book with her then she can have all the fun in the world with her. She starts to imagine Book across from her at the other water gun and shouted “watch out because I am going to kill you Book!” She then turns on the watergun and starts pointing it out.
“Ha ha this is so much fun I’m shooting Book with the water gun! Ha ha!” Ruby yells as she imagines Book screaming as the water hits her chest.
But Ruby feels like she isn’t being shot back. Throughout this entire time Ruby not feel the pressure of the sharp water speeding towards her but it felt a bit weird not being hit a single time despite being in a fight.
Ruby decided to spin the water gun and point it towards herself and scream “awww Book you hit me! You will pay Book!” And then spun it back towards the opposite side of her. But it still didn’t feel right. Everything felt controlled and unreal instead of natural and fun.
She starts to sense a painful loneliness not just around her but inside of her the darkness of the night starts to eat her alive. For the first time today Ruby felt alone, she was so mad at Book for wanting to do something else besides being at the waterpark and she was so motivated she forgot what this day was supposed to be like. A day for Ruby and Book to hangout together and now it’s night and dark.
Ruby felt a new wave of sadness as she felt her sad facial expressions starting to get heavier this water park felt so empty with no one else here, especially Book. She begin to walk away from the waterpark, slanting down a bit.
As she was walking she stepped back on the grass and then stopped for a moment and thought to herself I should probably be careful so I don’t die! But as she thought about it a bit more she realized she couldn’t really give herself the energy to care so she just kept walking and then a giant medal box fell on her, shattering Ruby under the tons of weight.
But this time nobody saw her die, nobody was there to recover her this time.
