   Summary

   When Courtland Gentry snoops in his fathers room he finds a box of papers. He brings it to the safety of his room and goes through it. Court finds two things with the same chicken scratch writing: a congratulations card for his birth and a short letter apologising for his mothers death.

   So, when John, thier father, gets too violent with Courtland, but mainly the twins--a shot is fired. The boys escape and head to Schenectady, New York from Florida.
