Chapter Text
“Tomioka giyuu has retired”
Were the first words spoken at the sudden meeting the hashira had.
Obanai had noted his lovers absence eariler but didn’t think much of it..
A scoff came from sanemi, the wind pillar that sat in front of obanai.
“Retired already.. what a wimp. He’s my age and still fit as a fiddle why would he need to retire?”
Obanai was glaring at Sanemi from behind. Obanai knew Giyuu wouldn’t just quit.. he had to have a reason
“Unfortunately, Shinazugawa.” Kocho spoke up suddenly, her smile looking a bit more forced than it usually did, “He didn’t retire of his own choice. He was injured in battle and is unable to fight again.”
A silence fell across the room. ‘Injured?’ Obanai thought, ‘So bad he was forced into retirement?’ The short man was very worried for his fiancé. “Will he be okay?” He spoke up before he could stop himself, the concern in his voice palpable.
The hashira knew a bit of their relationship so they had a feeling Obanai was fighting the urge to run to Giyuu then and there to see him.
“Nothing fatal, luckily..” She spoke softly.
“Obviously fucking not if he retired-“ Sanemi starts up before being cut off by a swarm of worried mumbles
“How bad is it? What happened? Was it a upper rank demon?! Did he slay it?” Mitsuri, the love hashira, exploded with questions. “We can’t answer much now..” the master spoke calmly. “He’s still resting and unable to communicate just yet..” he continued.
“Who found him?!” She tried to ask a question that could be answered
“It was the soon-to-be next Water hashira, Murata..” The master answered her. Obanai wasn’t happy his fiancé was getting replaced so quickly but also understood the need for hashira in the corps. Obanai was a bit happier to hear that the replacement would be someone Giyuu knew well and trusted.. that way he could trust him as well.
“What injuries has he sustained?” Tengen asked with feined nonchalance, despite not talking to him much, he’s known Giyuu for a long time and can’t help but be just as worried as the rest.
“He has a few broken bones an-“ Kocho started before getting cut off by Shinazugawa, “Just a few broken bones?! He retired for that!?”
“If you’d let her finish-“ Obanai interfered, wanting desperately to hear of his future husband’s condition. “Sanemi. You shouldn’t interrupt your fellow hashira.” Himajima spoke up sternly.
“As I was saying,” Kocho continued, clearly pissed off even though she held a smile on her face. “He has a few broken bones and injuries near his eyes, making him blind.
‘Blind?!’ Obanai thought.
“Like permanently?” Mitsuri asked. “Because me and him had this thing next week and he kinda needs to se—“
“Obviously permanently. Damn, could you just shut it..?” Shinazugawa muttered as he held onto his head, getting a head ache from all the talking and fuss.
Kyojuro spoke up, his voice loud as ever and probably worsening sanemis headache, “Don’t talk to her like that, we should all respect our fellow hashira wholeheartedly and we shouldn’t put each other down for any reason!”
“I agree, it’s unkindly for a person of your status to put down your coworker for no reason.” Himajima spoke again, tears in his eyes just thinking about how hurt Kanrojis feelings must be and how Tomioka is doing.
“Anywho, Obanai, I was wondering..”
Kocho spoke up again before getting cut off by the master. “Thank you for all the information you’ve given, my child but I’d prefer to talk about it with him alone.”
Kocho looked upset for a second before easing up, she didn’t like being cut off but it was the master so it was okay.. “Yes, master.” She mumbled.
After that the meeting was concluded and iguro was asked to speak with the master..
