Work Text:
It had been exactly 3 weeks and 4 days since you’d argued and broke up with Keigo. 25 days, 600 hours, however you’d count it. And fuck, if it wasn’t driving you crazy. It was a lot to try to get used to again. Trying to live normally was a huge adjustment.
You’d both spent your last moments with eachother screaming. It wasn’t supposed to end how it did. You were mad, as any sane person would be, because Keigo had missed your date night. You just wanted to show him that you were hurt. But you were never good at simple words and communication, were you? He'd gotten held up at work, discussing random hero shit. Never made sense to you anyways.
You’d tried to drown it out with alcohol. The burning sensation marking your throat the same way your words to him had. It never worked, though. You’d just end up back in your house, a drunk mess. Usually, you’d text Keigo about missing him or asking when he’d be home. But you two didn’t share a home anymore. You had no idea how he was doing, anyways. You avoided the television anytime it mentioned him. You avoided his social medias, his fangirls, the news, anything that could remind you of what was no longer yours. Until you didn’t.
It was around 2 in the morning when you finally broke no contact. It wasn’t a text, your drunken mind thought that made you seem too desperate. You called him instead. (Because that makes sense, right?)
He picked up on the fourth ring, and your heart dropped. He actually answered? You were silent for a beat too long, trying to figure out what to say when his voice came through. It was raspy. Tired.
“[Name]? Are you.. Are you okay?”
Your breath hitched, before you finally managed to spew out a slurred sentence.
“Kei. I’m good. Are you?”
A beat of silence, and for a moment you thought he’d hung up.
“I’m alright. Are you drunk? You sound drunk.”
You shook your head, as if he could see it.
“[Name]? Are you safe?”
“Mm. Yeah. I am. What are you doing right now?” You respond, and he asks the one question you didn’t want him to. But what were you expecting?
“Why’d you call?”
You couldn’t think of a coherent excuse.
“..Missed ya. A lot.”
A sharp intake of breath is heard from the other line, before a slightly shaky voice responds.
“Miss you, [Nickname].”
“Can you come over, Kei? Please?”
He sighs, probably running a hand through his hair.
“I don’t want to come over, not while you’re drunk. I don’t think my heart could take it if you wake up tomorrow and kick me out again.”
You felt tears stinging your eyes. He wasn’t one to change his mind, never was.
“Will you stay on the line, though?” You asked, your voice hopeful. He let out a small, tired huff that was more of a laugh.
“Yeah. Of course.”
Which led you to now. You couldn’t remember when you fell asleep, but your head was currently pounding. You glance over at your phone, checking the time, before you see his message..
Kei<3: hey. text me when you wake up, if you meant what you said last night.
Fuck. Fresh tears begin to sting in your eyes. He’d texted first? You move fast without a second thought, immediately responding.
I’m up. Can you come over?
When he lands in the driveway, you’re already outside. Of course you were. You don’t even have time to process what you’re doing before you’re practically launching yourself at him. You don’t hold back, just latching onto him as you begin to sob. He doesn’t hesitate either though, wrapping his arms around you and whispering soothing words. God, he was always good at that.
“Shh, [Name]. It’s okay. I’m here, let it out.” He mumbled into your hair.
“I’m sorry. I’m so fucking sorry. I shouldn’t have called you names. I just..”
You trail off, continuing to cry in his arms.
“You were hurt, baby. It’s not your fault. I’m here” He comforts, trying to console you. He pulls back slightly, only to cup your face with both hands and make you look at him. His thumbs traces a gentle path on your cheek, wiping away tears.
“You know I love you, Keigo.”
“I do. And you know I love you.”
He kisses you. But it's not the usual hungry kisses he'd given you. He kissed you slowly, reclaiming all of what's his.
