Chapter Text

On the unstable smp vampires were hunted down fiercely there was a lot of money to be made in the business.

But over the years of being over hunted their numbers had dwindled and they went into hiding in remote parts of the server.

Large covens still existed but with dwindling resources and area to live, many young newly turned vampires were kicked out of their covens once of age.

Left to their own devices they could either try and join another convent or start one of their own.

Either way being alone vampire was hard, hard to hold a territory, hard to hunt, and hard to defend yourself from threats like other vampires, or hunters.

So it's a good thing Wemmbu isn't alone and gots his human friend Eggchan right?

Wemmbus sire shakes his head. “This was not what I meant when I said find a new family."

***

It was uncommon for vampires to have human friends, (if you could call it being friends) it was a much agreement where both sides got something in return, the vampire got an easy secure source food, and the human got protected from other vampires and under their permission would be saved by being turned into one in a life threatening situation.

Of course these things only applied to good vampires.

But Wemmbu chose neither, after meeting Egg there was no turning, there was no mutual agreement except being friends, that's it.

Which Wemmbu could hear his sire now about vampire law, and how that was unethical, how he should at least claim him!

But he didn't care, as far as he was concerned the human was his own boss, and no law was going to tell him otherwise.

Wemmbu had cut out a very small piece of territory where he and Egg lived. It makes it easier to patrol for intruders.

Most intruders were just lone vampires, such as Wemmbu himself who were either looking for another coven to join, start one of their own, or just take somebody else's territory.

But he didn't trust any other vampires around Egg, so he drove them off, and the few times they did go after Egg they paid dearly.

For the most part life was good, they had a small cabin they lived in, the upstairs was where Egg lived, and the downstairs (basement) was where Wemmbu lived, You know because the whole vampires can't sun light thing.

***

It was starting out as just another day . . . or night.

Wemmbu was getting ready to go out, and patrol his territory, and stretch his wings.

Egg was getting ready for bed, the sun had set an hour ago and they…Egg had just finished dinner. Wemmbu often sat with him during meals and they talked, and spent time together.

Though as a vampire he thought any and all human food was disgusting. (The filling was mutual on both sides)

“Alright bro, I'm heading out.”

“Okay see you in the morning.” Egg said, heading to his room.

They had both altered their sleep schedules slightly to see each other more since being a vampire, Wemmbu was completely nocturnal.

Egg would get up extra early before sunrise, before Wemmbu went to sleep, and Wemmbu got up early in the late evening before sun set. (of course all the blinds and curtains had to be shut up stairs.)

Wemmbu walked out the door shutting it lightly, he took a deep breath taking in the cool night air.

He spread his black bat wings and flew over the spruce forest.

He first made a premature sweep around the edge of his territory to make sure there were no intruders.

His sensitive nose picked up on something, he landed in a small clearing in the woods, it was the sent of another vampire.

He noticed a coat lying on the ground by a tree, if there was another vampire here it could be trouble.

Wemmbu was still young by vampire terms, only being 25 years since he was turned, luckily every other vampire that came in his territory was around his same age, or younger so he had no problem beating them.

But if an older one, or Unstable forbid a coven leader came, there was nothing he could do to protect Egg.

So that's why he chose such a small undesirable territory.

He walked over slowly to the jacket, unsure if whoever left it could be in the area still.

Egg had plenty of silver vampire weapons to defend himself but still if there was an intruder he needed to get back and warn him.

He walked over to it, to inspect it when. . .

*SNAP!!!*

Something clamped around his ankle hard, and he fell to the ground.

He looked around frantically for any danger, trying to get up quickly only to fall again, something tugging at his foot.

He looked down and saw a steel trap clamped on his foot.

He reached down to undo it, free himself, but as soon as his skin made contact he screamed, hissing in pain, letting go of it like he had been burned, because he had.

He looked at the palms of his hands. They were now blistering angry red and hot.

The trap was made of silver.

“Oh no!?.” He thought and went wild trying to break free jerking and pulling as hard as he could to get free but to no avail the trap stayed anchored to his foot and its one foot chaine.

The irony of it all was he could undo the trap, but he couldn't touch it without being severely burnt again.

He looked all around him frantically, vampire hunters had set this trap and would be back soon, and if not he would just die when the sun came up.

He had heard about hunters like that, instead of putting them out of their misery quickly, they'd just leave them to slowly be baked alive in the sun, in a slow miserable death.

His clothes were too thin to use to help keep his hands from getting burnt. Luckily all he felt through his boot was the pressure of the trap.

Wemmbu breathed heavily. There was nothing he could do but wait for the hunters to show and hope they didn't find Egg.

***

That didn't stop him from fighting the rest of the night trying to get free.

Probably not the smartest idea, because now he was exhausted.

He looked to the sky. There was only about 2 hours of night time left, Egg would be getting up shortly.

The sound of footsteps and brush rustling snapped him out of his thoughts.

“Bro, like bro, there isn't anything out here.”

Wemmbu scooted as far away as he could.

“Bro, either way we got to check.” Another voice replied.

There were at least two of them.

They emerged from the trees one wearing black and red, the other wearing yellow and . . . and were they both wearing blind folds in the middle of the night!

Wemmbu curled in on himself trying to make himself as small as possible, maybe they wouldn't notice him. He new it was a stuped idea.

They finally noticed him.

“Bro, look I was right.” The yellow one said.

The other just groaned. “I'm sick of you always being right bro!”

The other laughed as they both walked closer to the trapped vampire.

“Okay so like-are we putting it down here or?”

“If there's one there, probably a whole coven, will take him back and question it and if there is, will use it as bait.”

They talked about him like he wasn't even there; it made him unsettled, and he couldn't help but notice how they kept calling him “IT”.

About using him as bait for his coven, many hunters would use other vampires from the same coven to lure the rest into a trap; it worked best with young vampires still bounded close with their sire.

They walked even closer and Wemmbu hissed, baring his fangs at them as a warning to stay away.

“You're not going to make this easy, huh.” The yellow one said, it was more of a statement than a question.

“Mane, let's just put him down here and we can just hunt the rest.”

Wemmbu gulped, he didn't like the sound of that.

“No bro, if there's one, there's a whole infestation of them hiding somewhere.”

“Fine.” the other mumbled.

They turned their attention back on him.

Wemmbu instincts just made him bare his fangs even more.

Mane just sighed. “Gess will just wait until morning for the sun to weaken him.” And he turned and walked away with the other, back the way they came.

After they were gone the realization of what they had said finally settled in.

They were going to leave him here in the sun until he was too weak to defend himself.

Fear grew in his stomach, short periods in the sun wouldn't kill vampires in less really young, but it was really uncomfortable.

He swallowed, there was nothing could do but wait and hope that maybe Egg would come and save him, but at the same time he wanted him as far away from here as possible.

The part that scared him the most wasn't the pain from the sun, but being totally defenseless when the hunter came back, he would be at the hunter's complete mercy, unable to defend himself.

***

Egg was getting worried, Wemmbu was usually back by now in thirty minutes the sun would be up.

He was usually back two hours before dawn, so they could hang out before he went to sleep.

He gripped his know could mug of coffee tightly, when he first got up he thought maybe the purple vampire was just extra tired and went to bed early, but his bed remained unslept in.

Something was wrong, very wrong, did he run into other vampires? If so there wasn't much Egg could do, but still.

He couldn't take it any more knowing his friend was out there missing, he got up from the table and went to his room grabbing all the silver vampire weapons he had, and switched out of his PJ’s.

He hurried out the door in a rush. In 30 mins the sun would be up and the sky was already turning from black to orange.

The thought of Wemmbu's warning rang in his ear as he left the yard.

“Never go out during dawn and dusk without me.” He had said.

It was peak hunting time for vampires since that's when their prey was most active for them.

Egg wasn't claimed, making him more vulnerable if he ran across a rogue vampire which Egg thought must be what was holding his friend up. But he did have the scent of the other which he hoped it was enough.

He made his way rushing through the forest. Maybe he was hurt? Maybe he had gotten into an accident and couldn't get back.

Either way he had to hurry, he knew how much the sun hurt vampires even little bits of it, how it blinded and burned them, it didn't burn as bad as silver but still!

He made his way to all the spots Wemmbu liked to go, by the river, the meadow, and lastly, the forest.

The territory wasn't that big but it was a lot to cover by foot.

By the time he made it to the spruce woods the sun was already up, it made him feel better for his safety but not his friends.

He could be back home panicking about where Egg is now, if he was Egg new he was going to get an ear full when they found each other.

It was thirty minutes past sunrise when he found him, and he was mortified.

Wemmbu was unconscious in a small clearing in the trees in direct sunlight, with absolutely no shade; he was deathly pale. Vampires were naturally pale but he was far more pale than he should be, and he was being put into a silver cage by two vampire hunters!
