Summary
Lone-wolf Saxhleel mercenary Sharp-as-Night never expected to divulge the aching holes in his memory to anyone, until one night in Necrom, when the words start pouring forth like a river, and some story-hungry little Bosmer errand-runner actually listens.
Sharp has no interest in looking out for anyone other than himself. He prefers to part ways with anyone he meets after coin is distributed. But instead of gold, Sharp stumbles on a cache of leads towards the one thing he doesn't want to face on his own: his forgotten history. So he joins up with the Bosmer and her crew on the Atelier, a floating shipwreck that he’s determined to help repair, if only for a sense of direction (and more than a bit of fishing).
The longer he travels with this new companion, the seafaring, maul-wielding, painfully-flippant beast handler Psorrel, the closer the link becomes between her palpable homesickness that haunts the ship like a spectre, and the all-seeing eye of the Daedric Prince Hermaeus Mora. And the more he and Psorrel discover about his own chilling history, and the reasons behind the walls he's built (which she alone can breach), the more Sharp questions whether he's really meant to be alone after all...
