   Summary

   “It was supposed to protect you,” the Third had said. Quiet. Mournful. Bitter.
   The eight-year-old blinked at Hiruzen in bewilderment.
   “My classmates still hate me,” Naruto whispered, looking away from his homework to eye the man. “How does not knowing why make it better?”
   “They weren’t supposed to,” Hiruzen said, “you weren’t supposed to know either. I wanted to raise you as a normal shinobi child. Not as a Jinchuuriki.”
   “And then Danzo tried to take me,” Naruto said.
   “And then Danzo tried to take you,” Hiruzen agreed.

   Danzo makes a move against Naruto Uzumaki much sooner than in Cannon forcing the Third Hokage to actual take his job as Guardian seriously. He kind of sucks at it.
