Peter's question in the lab that Thursday afternoon kept echoing in Harley's head. 'How Spider-Man am I going to be?' carried a weight he immediately recognized, the kind of quiet fear Peter had when he didn't want to seem scared. Harley knew his boyfriend's insecurities well enough to know where each one came from: those with a name and a specific address, revealed by the bullying and traumas Peter carried with a painful naturalness, and those that were more diffuse, rooted in a hero complex so large it sometimes seemed to swallow the rest of him. He knew he wasn't in a position to solve all of it. But he could help, and that was enough to act. Practically every single one of them.
