Work Text:

Clark isn’t sure when he started thinking of Captain Clark as his, he only knows that he did and it stuck. Sure, Captain Clark isn’t his, however, nothing is truly ever yours, and besides, Captain Clark seemed to enjoy being called his. The two had a rocky start considering this…place. He liked this place, it wasn’t hot or cold, it was always a beautiful yellow that stained your eyes so badly even closing them wouldn’t get rid of the permanent perfect yellow that echoed through the halls. He supposed it was because he himself wasn’t used to such a place, it was so different from the real world, so different from that place he lived in. This place was…nicer, kinder even. It understood him in ways that he didn’t know could, it changed and moved yet always stayed the same, always telling him where to go and where not too, always moving so he didn’t have to walk too far or expanding so that he could explore.

Anyways, his mind is getting off track. Clark isn’t sure when he started thinking that Captain Clark was his, but he likes the thought. Every time he sees the taller he says hi, tells him how he missed him and it’s true, the worst part is that he never felt like this with his wife so he isn’t sure how to rationalize it. Sure, he could just push it off but that would be hiding something he doesn’t think he wants to. He wants to scream it he thinks, yell to nobody listening that he has someone, that the someone he loves is someone who understands…which raises another question, does he love him?

He surely doesn’t dislike Captain Clark, he would go to say that he doesn’t even find him unappealing, though, he doesn’t think he’d ever find him unappealing he’s just so…different. Would that make him a homosexual? He isn’t sure, he supposes it would, and he finds that he doesn’t mind the thought. He’s never had much of a problem with homosexuals, it wasn’t something he understood, it definitely wasn’t something he cared much for but a customer is a customer, if he turned away gay people he’d have less customers, so it never crossed his mind if he disliked them or hated them. They were just people who could buy his furniture and fund his life like any other person. He never thought he could be one.

He’s never had thoughts like this before, they aren’t problematic but they’re new…he likes them he decides. He likes new thoughts, new things that he can solve by himself without it becoming a problem, without it becoming something more than it needs to be. Back to his previous thoughts though, he likes the idea of Captain Clark being his. He could even think that he liked the idea of the two dating, holding hands even. He doesn’t mind the thoughts of them loving one another because this is someone who understands him, someone who he understands. The two know one another like they know this world. Sure Captain Clark knows this world better than he ever will but he knows this odd world, he knows this heaven better than anybody else aside from him.

He understands how heaven works, how it ponders and questions just like he does at the desk he made after a few days. Which, he really should expand on the desk. He likes it, but he can make it better, he can do better. His eyes finally focus on the paper he had been drawing on for the last hour, maybe the last day or so, he isn’t sure. Time is weird, time is odd and he doesn’t mind not knowing how long it’s been because time still passes by either way. He stands up, stretches his back and sighs in relief. He grabs his bag from the floor and walks out of the room he had steadily been filling to his and the other’s liking.

His steps are sure and yet so hesitant as he walks, he doesn’t entirely want to get lost today but he wants to leave the room. He knows he’ll make it back, he always does but still, he knows if he leaves then his room will disappear to somewhere else. A sigh escapes him but he keeps moving, he’ll find it again even if he doesn’t want to go that far. Besides, he should eat something, maybe drink something as well…wow, he’s sober. It’s a slightly startling realization if only because he drinks almost every single night but recently he hasn’t, he hasn’t even felt the want to…this place really was paradise wasn’t it? He smiles to himself and trails his hand against the wall to feel the yellow wallpaper that he’s come to know and love.

He wishes he could worship this place more like he does Captain Clark, he really does love these yellow walls, this yellow carpet and those pretty lights that buzz their happy little tune. He enjoys the other areas though he doesn’t venture to them as often if only because they tend to be a bit further out than he goes when he isn’t exploring. He turns a hall and then enters the little dining room, smiles and waves to the one in red, he knows exactly who she represents, and he doesn’t care. The only thing he cares about is her not being in the way, and thankfully, she never is. He opens the fridge and waves hello to Kat who just stares back like she usually does. He pulls the cup out and closes the fridge before pulling out his knife and stabbing into the fat guy.

He likes the fat guy, doesn’t complain at all and even if he takes so many chunks out when he turns back he’s all back to normal. He’d say the fat guy is his second favorite, obviously this world and Captain Clark are his favorites, it wouldn’t make sense if they weren’t because they are what is so divine about this place, literal heaven and heaven’s keeper that he loves. He sets the chunk onto a plate and sets the two items on the table, he sits down and eats, drinks that odd liquid that’s so viscous and yet silky smooth. His head tilts up and then snaps to the doorway, the one in red has already run off screaming as he enters the room. His heart flutters and he smiles.

“Captain Clark, what are you doing here?”

He gets no response, he knew he wouldn’t. He watches the taller tilt his head and grunt something, make a few mumbled sounds he can’t entirely understand before nodding.

“It’s nice to see you Cap, I’ve missed you.”

Cap huffs, seems almost amused by that most likely considering they saw one another just the other day, maybe even a few hours ago. He walks forward and to the side the fat guy is on before pulling at the flesh and eating, it’s disgustingly endearing. He watches the taller eat, forgetting to eat his food until he’s given a sort of look. He isn’t sure how he understands said look but he does, and he goes back to eating. The two are silent for the rest of the time they eat and he drinks. When he finishes he looks at the doorway, now that he’s out of his room he doesn’t actually want to go back, sure he was wanting to go back but he has a bit more energy and he kind of wants to explore a bit. He stands up, puts his cup back into the fridge (after waving goodbye to Kat) and then turns his head as Cap starts to leave.

“I want to join you.”

Clark watches him stop, turn back around and stare at him. He seems to perk up at that, grunts and tilts his head before nodding. He quickly walks over, stares at him and then follows. He thinks over his thoughts as he walks and then pushes them aside, Captain Clark is his as he is his. Whether he keeps thinking it over or not doesn’t change that fact. He doesn’t think anything will ever change that fact.
