Deku wakes up late on Sunday morning.
He leaves a note for his mom, he’s going out shopping.
Deku follows the sidewalk to a quaint-looking floral boutique.
He meanders there a moment, waking back and forth, almost too afraid to go in.
Eventually, Deku strengthens his resolve and gets himself to head inside.
The cold air conditioning immediately makes him sigh in relief.
He wanders around the isles, enjoying all the bright colors and the earthy smells wafting through the air.
He has to ask an employee to make a custom bouquet for him, gentians and daffodils.
They smile jovially at him, unbothered as they snip the ends off of flower stems.
Deku takes over 10 minutes to pick through a selection of spider lily bouquets.
The familiar plastic crinkles between his fingers.
The flowers smell wonderful.
…He’s glad none of the employees noticed his shoes this time.
It’s decidedly awkward shopping for a bouquet while holding two other bouquets from a different store, Deku finds.
Or maybe no one cares. Whatever.
He selects a bouquet of white chrysanthemums quickly, repressing the urge to roll his eyes at the red tissue paper wrapped around the flower stems.
This time he decides to use the self checkout.
Fortunately, the price he pays stays congruent with the price on the bouquet’s tag.
