“oh my glob, no!” bonnie gasps, tying her hair back into a bun. “she did not, there’s no way.”
“yes way!” marceline refuted with a cackle. “she actually had the audacity to think and ask if i wanted her boyfriend! as if i would ever want that ugly rat less than twenty feet near me!”
bonnie sighed and rolled her eyes. “ugh, i know. lumpy space princess can be a lot sometimes.”
it was the middle of night, and although they would’ve usually been asleep- or just resting in marceline’s case -by now, this was a special weekend for them. after endless royal meetings and having done shows back-to-back for the longest time, the two of them were finally free at the same time. it was a rare occasion, so they had to make the most of it.
“oh biscuits, bonnie, have you heard about finn and flame princess?” marceline asked, tying her hair up too before opening up a tub full of green goo. “wait, what is this again?”
“that’s our face mask cream,” bonnie reminded, taking it from her hands, “and yes, i have. those poor kids, i literally have no idea what to do about them.”
“here,” marceline says, taking the cream back, “i’ll put it on for you, you keep talking.”
scooting closer, bonnie does. “it’s just so unstable, you know? they’re both sweet and actually kind of cute together, but finn could not possibly in any world handle flame princess.”
“doesn’t he also have a crush on you too?” marceline added, gently applying the face mask.
“stop, he did not,” bonnie groused, jutting her head out for marceline to cup. she applied the green paste carefully, covering every inch of her lover’s face. “besides, even if he did, he couldn’t handle me either. not like i would ever give him the chance.”
marceline chuckled. “i mean, yeah, because you have me.”
“well, yes, but even if i didn’t, i wouldn’t. ugh, this is reminding me of princess rainicorn for some reason. i love that girl, but i wish she would stop involving me in her and jake’s relationship.”
“why, what’s she saying?” marceline knows that bonnie doesn’t like to gossip, but when she’s this nosy, bonnie, who loves her very much, can’t keep her out of the loop.
“it’s just a bunch of lovey-dovey stuff,” bonnie sighed out, rolling her eyes. “it was cute at first, but then she would tell me about these dumb jokes jake made, and it started to gross me out.”
“i’m surprised they’re a couple to begin with. i mean, they make sense together, but still.”
“tell me about it. they’re still better than hot dog princess and her new man.”
bonnie shuddered, and marceline scoffed, applying the last of the face mask. it wasn’t perfect nor was it even, but this was all in good fun, so it didn’t matter too much.
“there, done,” she announced, wiping the goo off her hands. “you look silly, bonnie.”
“ha, ha,” bonnie bleakly laughed with nothing but fondness in her eyes. “now it’s your turn.”
“ok, whatever you say.” closing her eyes, marceline stuck her head out, expecting the cold mush to coat her face. instead, she was met with a soft pair of lips, and it felt like heaven. she opened her eyes to find bonnie smiling and laughing, and man, is she beautiful.
“sorry, you just looked so cute sitting there like that, i couldn’t help myself.”
“it’s ok, i don’t mind," marceline said, returning the favor, as she basked in bonnie’s love. “ok, but hurry up and put the face mask on so i can hear about hot dog princess. who’s her new boyfriend? is he ugly? do i know him?”
“chill with the questions! i honestly don’t know a lot, but from what she told me…”
as the night went on, so did their conversations, discussing practically everyone in the land of ooo. it wasn’t often the two of them just sat down and talked their heads off, but marceline cherished each moment more than the last. today was another amazing, special night for her, even while doing face masks that made them look like braindead zombies.
as long as she was with bonnie, marceline would always have the time of her life.
