Work Text:
“oh my glob, i’m fine, bonnie, stop worrying about me!” marceline huffed, shooing her girlfriend away. she knows she shouldn’t have done that, but she can’t possibly focus on anything else when she’s so close to finishing her song. it’s fine, bonnie will understand.
“you’re not fine, marcy, you’re going crazy!” bonnie argued. “go to sleep already!”
hunched over on the floor with music sheets and crumpled up papers all around, marceline’s been working on the same song for almost three days in a row. she’s so close to perfecting it, but there’s something missing, and she can’t rest until she figures it out. it’s on the tip of her tongue, and she just needs to work for a little bit longer to find it.
“i’m fine! i’m almost done anyway, so just leave me be!” marceline really shouldn’t be so snappy with bonnie, but she just couldn’t think like this. so what if she’s tired and exhausted and kind of hungry too? she needs to finish this song more than she needs to sleep.
bonnie groaned. “oh my glob, you’re so stubborn. you know what, i’m just gonna-”
marceline didn’t know what she was expecting bonnie to do, but it definitely wasn’t picking her up and taking her to their bedroom. with little to no trouble, she lifted her up bridal-style, cradling her back in the kindest of ways. bonnie was furious with her, but at the end of the day, it was always going to be out of worry. she cared about her, and marceline felt it all.
she just didn’t think bonnie would’ve actually picked her up. with her being a serious, nerdy princess and all, she had forgotten about how strong she actually is. bonnie can kick serious butt, and marceline can’t believe she ever let that slip her mind. her girlfriend is so amazing and wonderful, and she wouldn’t mind being carried like this by her every now and then.
with a huff, bonnie plopped marceline down into bed, fluffing her pillow before tucking her in. she wore a frown the entire time, but the light in her eyes betrayed her face.
“there, now you have to get some rest,” bonnie demanded. “i don’t want to see you getting out bed unless it’s for food or water for at least three consecutive hours of rest, you got that?”
marceline profusely nodded. she wasn’t going to argue with someone who picked her up just like that without breaking a sweat. plus, now that she’s actually in bed, she’s feeling kind of tired.
“good. now, i’ll be working on some reports if you need me. i’ll be checking up on you to make sure you’re asleep, alright?" bonnie said to which marceline nodded, and she finally smiled.
“good.” with the sweetest of eyes, bonnie kissed her forehead. “get some good rest, alright?”
oh glob, marceline’s so in love with her. “i will. thanks for looking out for me, bonnie.”
“of course. i mean, if i don’t, then who will?” she giggled before leaving, and marceline can’t believe how lucky she is to have someone as perfect as her in her life; and strong too.
