Chapter Text

(Not edited)

The moment Deku had come back to UA after his vigilante streak, he was no longer allowed to be alone.

Every room he was in would slowly fill with the rest of the class. If he got up to leave, one if not more, students would follow behind him. He wasn't even allowed to sleep alone, someone had to sleep in his floor every night to make sure he wouldn't run away again.

The only thing keeping him there was Bakugo.

Every turn he took, the blonde followed him. It was as if they both had each other on an imaginary leash. Neither of them separating from one another, yet neither got incredibly close either.

That was until it was Bakugo's turn to sleep on Deku's floor.

"I'm not sleeping in here. Come on, we're going to my room," Deku was more than happy to oblige to the request. His room was starting to feel suffocating, like it wasn't his own anymore.

Neither of them spoke while they took turns doing their shared nightly routine. However, by the time they were ready to lay down, Bakugo started talking.

"What were you thinking?" His voice was quiet but serious. His question caught Deku by suprise, he was confused momentarily about what he was talking about.

"I-? Do you want me to sleep on the bed with you? I didn't know the futon was going to upset you-?" He stammered out in confusion that only grew when he heard Bakugo's annoyed sigh.

"I don't give a shit about the bed, Deku. I mean, why did you leave? I understand you needed to think, you wanted freedom, you wanted- whatever. Why didn't you bring me along? We both know I would've agreed without a second thought," His voice had become a lot more raspy, almost broken from tears that were welling up in his throat.

"Oh," Was the only response he got.

"Dammit, Deku! Oh?! Oh is all I get? Do you understand how terrified I was for you?! I know you can handle your own but what if you couldn't?! What if there was another person out there with Aizawa's quirk? What if that person got to you and slaughtered you? What if that person was part of a group and they did more then just murder?" He tried to keep his voice down so he wouldn't disturb everyone else.

"I've been terrified listening to the news. Every time I heard your name, I felt like I was going to vomit. I was just waiting to hear that you were found dead. I- Do you know what I would've done if I heard that news?" He was trembling now. Like a leaf holding on desperately in the wind to the branch it grew on.

"Kacchan..." Deku didn't know how to respond.

"Tch, you don't even care," He's never heard Bakugo sound so defeated before. Though, his words quickly snapped him out of whatever trance he was in.

"Kacchan, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you, I didn't think you would be affected this much, let alone at all. I- I'm sorry I didn't tell you, I just needed to be alone for a while," His response was shit but it was the best he could come up with on the spot.

While he spoke, he had made his way over to Bakugo's bed and hesitantly sat down beside the furious blonde.

"Don't ever do that shit again. The only reason why I didn't go out and find you was because Aizawa basically grounded me here. Security was everywhere, I couldn't do anything. I felt so unbelievably fucking useless," Bakugo continued. His hands curled into fists by his side, smoke rising from them but he didn't flinch at the feeling.

"If you leave without me, I will hunt you down. Anyone who tries to stop me will die and when I get my hands on you, you will too," He was dead serious and Deku knew he was.

"I understand. Again, I'm sorry. I truly am," He didn't know what else to say. For someone who spoke so much, words had never failed him so horribly like they were now.

"Go the fuck to sleep. If you leave this room without me, I'll kill you. I don't care who's around to witness it, I'll go to jail with a smile on my face," That was a lie and Deku knew it.

"Okay," He simply agreed, though his answer just infuriated Bakugo even more.

"God Dammit, Deku! Speak! Fuck, you do nothing but ramble and talk all the fucking time, and this once when I need you to, you're suddenly quiet?! What is with these short-ass responses?!" He didn't mean to yell but he couldn't help it.

He was going crazy. He finally got his best friend back but he wasn't the same. He had changed so much and yet so little at the same time. He needed to understand what was going through Deku's head. He couldn't read him like before. He needed to know. He needed to understand.

"I- I don't know what else to say. I'm just so tired, Kacchan. I'm sorry," Tears were silently pouring down his face alongside a painfully sad smile.

His lips began to wobble, so he bit them. Sniffling, choking back the tears in his throat while he closed his eyes, willing himself to calm back down.

It was to no avail.

"Deku, come here," Bakugo demanded. He had moved himself so he was leaning against his mountain of pillows. His arms were open, waiting for Deku to collapse in them.

"I don't- I don't deserve your kindne-"

"Actually shut the fuck up,"

There was no malice in his tone. He leaned over and pulled Deku into his embrace since the greenette still hadn't made any movements.

"I'm sorry," He sobbed into Bakugo's chest, clinging onto him as if he would dissappear if he even thought of letting go.

"Promise me," He paused, waiting patiently for Deku's breathing to calm down enough for him to hear something other than his own heartbeat.

"Promise me you'll never leave me again," His arms were wrapped tightly around Deku's torso, and their legs were already tangled together.

He wanted nothing more than to comfort the boy in his arms but he wanted his own reassurance first.

"I promise. I promise I'll never leave you again. I'll never leave you," Deku stated through sobs while burying his head into the crook of Bakugo's neck.

His speech was still slightly slurred from his tears but Bakugo understood everything he had said. He was content.

"Can I take off your shirt?" The request was incredibly out of the blue and extremely confusing. Though, Deku trusted Bakugo, so he simply nodded his head yes before sitting up.

He slid off his own shirt before lying back down against Bakugo's chest. His arms wrapped around the blonde's waist tightly while his ear was pressed against his heart.

"I'm going to touch your back now, alright?" He waited until he got a confirmation nod before he place his hands on Deku's back.

The moment they did, small sparks began to fly from them. He moved his hands slowly, up and down Deku's back with his quirk.

Whenever the two had sleepovers when they were kids, Bakugo always offered to use his quirk on Deku to show off his range and control of his powers.

Deku being deku, would always agree eagerly to see how cool Bakugo was. Though, they both quickly found out that whenever Bakugo used his quirk on Deku's back, it helped lull the boy to sleep almost instantly.

This time was no different.

After the first initial shock of what was happening registered in his mind, Deku relaxed into a puddle against Bakugo.

His eyes drooped shut and soon soft snores emitted from his mouth. Bakugo cringed internally at the thought of getting drooled on, though it was a just a passing thought that didn't actually matter.

Even after Deku fell asleep, Bakugo continued for a while longer. After about ten minutes, he stopped and instead moved his right hand to Deku's hair while his left wrapped around his waist.

"He's finally back. He's back. He's real. I'm holding him. This isn't just a dream. Please, fuck- please don't let this be a dream," His thoughts swirled in circles before he eventually exhausted himself to sleep. Silent tears staining his cheeks.

~~~
Around four in the morning, Deku woke up. He needed to use the bathroom. Since he was still on top of Bakugo, it was easier for him to get off the bed without disturbing the blonde.
However, the moment his feet touched the floor, he was suddenly pulled back onto the bed by his waist. He landed on Bakugo's lap since he had sat up when he felt Deku's weight leave him.
"Where are you going?" He asked with smoke rising from his hands. He thought after everything that happened earlier, Deku was still going to leave him.
Again.
"The bathroom," Deku answered quickly with his hands up in mock surrender. His shoulders had tensed back up in Bakugo's embrace before relaxing once more when blasty let him go.
He didn't say anything. Instead, he simply nudged Deku's back, encouraging him to do what he had to do and then come back.
When he came back, Bakugo went to the bathroom after before once again returning to his bed. Which was where Deku was sitting up, on the edge of it, biting his nails while looking at the floor deep in thought.
However, when Bakugo laid back down and wrapped his arm around his waist, pulling him back onto the bed properly, he didn't flinch.
"What's wrong 'Zu?" Bakugo asked, his voice heavy with sleep. He saw how Deku perked up at the new nickname before he laid down once again, this time beside Bakugo instead of on top of him.
"Kat, I was thinking," "When are you not?" "Hush for a second. I was thinking, since we both never want to separate from the other ever again, why don't we just get married?" He asked the question so simply, like it wasn't that much of a big deal at all.
"Hah?!" Bakugo asked, suddenly wide awake at the suggestion of getting married to his best friend.
"You're right, it was a dumb suggestion. Forget I said anything," Deku quickly backpedaled, turning on his side away from Bakugo with an embarrassed blush appearing across his face and ears.
"No, that wasn't a no, dumbass. Don't people usually date first before they get married? Plus, aren't we too young? I mean, I will marry you but I don't think now is the best time to," Bakugo quickly spewed out all of his thoughts, trying to get Deku back on the same page as him.
"I didn't mean now! I meant when we're of-age. Also, yes. You're right, people do usually date before they get married but we've known each other for so long. Is it not basically the same? The only things couples do that we don't is kiss and... other things of that nature," Deku explained his thought process, only becoming more flustered the more he spoke.
"This is a really long-winded way of asking me out, nerd," Bakugo laughed softly, once again lying down beside Deku.
Deku simply burried his face in Bakugo's chest as his response. Once again grabbing hand fulls of Bakugo's shirt, clinging to him for much happier reasons this time.
"So, we're dating now?" Bakugo asked while running his fingers through Deku's hair once again.
When he felt Deku nod in agreement to his words he smiled brightly in genuien contentment.
"Cool. Now go the fuck back to sleep," He heard and felt Deku laugh at his response, though they both quickly relaxed once more and fell back asleep, peacefully.
