I currently serve as an Attending Physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, where Dr. Samira Mohan is currently training as a senior resident physician.
It is my honor to write this letter in support of her application for the Emergency Medicine Fellowship program.
Over the course of her residency, Dr. Mohan has distinguished herself through her clinical judgment, procedural discipline, and thoughtful approach to patient care. While many prioritize speed above all else, Dr. Mohan possesses something that cannot be easily taught: the ability to listen and care intensely for her patients. She approaches medicine with an uncommon level of attentiveness, intellectual curiosity, and respect for both procedure and patient experience.
As part of the team in the ED during the Pitt Fest mass casualty incident, she remained level-headed, resourceful, and was able to help save countless lives. This quality alone is one of the reasons for the recommendation. I know she will be a fierce advocate for her patients and will continue pushing herself to become the physician they need her to be. Whether that means stepping outside of her comfort zone or accepting criticism head on, Dr. Mohan demonstrates maturity, and a strong advocacy. She knows how to take critique, grow from it, and teach others around her in the process.
In addition to her clinical capabilities, Dr. Mohan actively pursues feedback in the academic sense, even if it means after hours of research, studies and conversation with other physicians. Her commitment to growth is evident not only in her work ethic, but in the intentionality she brings to every aspect of her work.
I believe Dr. Mohan has tremendous potential as both a physician and the future of emergency medicine. She possesses the rare combination of technical discipline, emotional intelligence, and intellectual thoroughness that makes an incredible physician. In rare instances, you are able to recognize someone who will shape the future of medicine. I believe Dr. Mohan is one of those individuals.
