Work Text:
Toshiko was reading, as she spent the majority of her time, when she was not singing in worship.
She felt a hand on her left shoulder, and then another on her right. She didn’t yelp, despite the fact that she wanted to, with the mud smearing on the shoulder of her dress.
“Toshiko,” Sister Gwen’s voice was soft, a barely noticeable whisper. Toshiko raised her finger to lips, laying her book down, and turning to face Sisters Gwen and Suzie.
“Stop playing with her,” Suzie murmured back to Gwen.
The conversation could easily turn to bickering, so Toshiko brushed their hands off of her shoulders, “Sisters.”
Sister Suzie joined the monastery after the death of her husband in the conquest, leaving her a widow, and Sister Gwen was placed inside Torchwood by her family, after they gave up on finding a husband for her. Neither of them wanted to be a Nun, Toshiko could tell. She was concerned that they may abscond, like the reported sinners of White Ladies.
Still, it didn’t stop the three of them secreting their way into the communal dormitory, bundling up onto their beds, all smuggled together, and spending their evening that way. Even if Gwen’s hands were covered with mud, and Suzie’s smelt of mint from the gardens.
