Abstracted Heart

Summary:

Becoming abstracted, Jax has lost all memories of the circus and the residents. Yet one of them, a girl dressed in red, blue and yellow, refuses to let him be sent to the cellar to join the others that had abstracted.

Being kept separate from the others, Jax received frequent visits from the girl, Pomni, either talking or she plays a piano for him, all keeping him calm in the pillow for that was made for him.

Then, one day, thanks to Pomni’s love for Jax, a miracle happens within the amazing digital circus.

Chapter 1

Abstracted

(Jax’s POV)

Darkness. Hiding the unknown. The one thing everyone is afraid of. Yet, I find the darkness soothing, comforting. For whatever reason, the light just left me feeling irritated and rageful. Like many others that ended up the same as I did.

However, unlike them, I’ve been left somewhere different, apart from them. Not sure why, it has to do something with her. The one of the last things I could recall were many voices, somehow distant yet I could tell they were arguing. The voices came from different featureless beings of different colors. “You all know the rules. The abstracted must be sent to the cellar.” One voice had said.

Abstracted? Is that what I am? I had wondered about the word that came from the red being with mismatched blue and green spots, must be their eyes.

“No! Not Jax!” Another voice yelled as I felt arms around my front. This figure was more clear to see, though still slightly blurry, she had a red, blue and yellow color scheme, with some brown around her head, must have been hair under an odd hat.

I kept my many eyes on her and strangely enough, I felt calm, even while exposed to the annoying light after being discovered by the odd red being with mismatched eyes and anxiously waiting to get back to somewhere dark.

“Perhaps, instead of having him join the others in the cellar, maybe we can build a pillow fort for him?” One figure was more purple with an odd shaped head and bulging eyes suggested. Oddly enough, I did like the idea as long as there was plenty of darkness.

“The dark does keep the abstracted calm. Maybe a pillow fort will help him.” A figure with red and purple agrees with the idea.

“Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s get to work!” The red figure with mismatched eyes became quite enthusiastic. “There will be no adventures while we get the pillow fort ready for our abstracted friend.”

“This will be a nice break from that.” One figure had appeared with different colors and shapes states, oddly without a mouth just as the last figure, appearing as something red and thin and a mask for a face, takes out a sketch pad to start sketching ideas for the pillow fort.

“Pomni, you stay with him. He seems more calm with you.” Pomni? That’s her name?

“Thanks, Ragatha.” The one who told her to stay with me, Ragatha, waved to Pomni before walking away to help the others with the pillow fort.

With it being just me and her, she gently strokes me on my chest. “Don’t worry, Jax. They will have a nice, dark spot ready for you.” Well, at least she’s still with me. And just as what Ragatha had said, being with Pomni does keep me calm. Since she’s not going anywhere, I lay down on my four legs and setting my head on her lap, looking up at her like a dog. With my head low enough, Pomni starts scratching behind one of my ears, making me feel really good under her gentle touch. Feeling calm thanks to her, I allow myself to nap on the spot.

Wasn’t sure how long I was out, but sometime later, I hear voices again. Lifting my head so I could see, while Pomni is still with me, a pillow fort has been brought over, taking notice that at the top of the fort was make-shift rabbit ears. Getting up to inspect the fort, I hear Pomni behind me. “Caine, could you conjure a piano and a book on how to learn to play the piano?”

     “A piano?” Ragatha asked.

“And a book on how to play it?” Zooble wonders.

“Why do you want those?” Caine inquires.

“I just feel that playing the piano for Jax would help him feel more calm.” Pomni answers, though her cheeks were pink and she was shuffling her feet in a shy manner, like she was remembering something special, a precious memory.

Yet the others could see the hidden meaning; Pomni wants more things so she could stay with me. “Well, why not.” Caine then conjures a beautiful black and purple piano with a closed book set on top of the fall board currently down on the keys.

“Thank you, Caine.” Then I set my head on her shoulder, my own way of saying “thank you for doing all this for me”. I enter the pillow fort, noticing in the center, the pillows dip down just the right size for the ring to be a sleeping spot. Realizing that I was in fact more sleepier than I thought, I lay in the ring, finding the spot so comfy and was instantly claimed by dreamless sleep. Though I could have sworn I felt someone curl up beside me.

Some time had passed. I remain in the pillow fort with frequent visits from Pomni, curling beside me, talking about the adventures she has been going on with the others, though my absence has been hurting her over time, saying they weren’t the same without me.

After being in the pillow fort, some memories have been slowly restored within me. I will admit being stuck her so I can remain calm in the dark has honestly left me feeling empty and lonesome without her beside me. So whenever she comes to my fort, I feel whole as long as Pomni is with me.

During some of her visits, she would even play two songs that are most familiar and dear to me, especially Daisy Bell as our song(Pomni once said to me, and that felt right; our song)

I’ve noticed that Ragatha, Kinger, Caine, Gangle, Zooble and Bubble would often gather around the entrance to my fort, yet the only one that is brave enough to enter is Pomni. And honestly, I’m perfectly ok with just having her.

Time moves on. I’m unsure of what or how this happened. Yet I find myself appearing as I had before I abstracted. Which I don’t understand. I thought abstracting was irreversible.

As I stare at my normal hands, the yellow gloves missing, I suddenly catch sight of Pomni curl up next to me, still fast asleep as her warm breath barely touched the fur on my chest yet still receiving goosebumps upon my arms and the back of my neck.

Laying there, watching her sleep, I gently set my right hand on her left cheek, slowly stroking her face. Then she leaned more into my touch, yet the moment I felt her feel my touch, Pomni’s eyes burst open, staring back into my normal yellow eyes with the black squares for pupils.

Her mouth gaping open and her eyes full of disbelief, Pomni asks, keeping her hands back for the moment, sitting up and I follow suit. “Jax? Is it really you?” Pomni asks, I could see the bitter tears begin to form in her duo-colored eyes, like pinwheels.

I first gave her a smile as my hand went back to her cheek and my own tears appeared in my eyes. “Yes, I’m back, PomPom.”

A single blink to shed her bitter tears, Pomni cups my face with both hands, looking at me closely, making certain it really is me without any sharpness of the abstraction. As more tears shed from her eyes, a few sobs escape her as Pomni wraps her arms around me, causing us to fall backwards with me on my back and her on top.

Feeling her cry into my chest fur, I wrap my arms around her, my hand on the back of her head, just letting her cry as I hold her close. “Pomni,” I start with a serious tone as I stroke her hair, “I’m not sure if I can stay in this form for long. If I might abstract again.”

Then Pomni tightens her arms around me. “I don’t care about that. I really missed you, Jax.”

I planted a kiss on her temple. “I know. I missed you as well.”

Carefully, I push up off the floor of the pillow fort as Pomni sat in my lap, her legs saddling mine. For a moment we just sat there in comfortable silence, me caressing her cheek while she held my face with both hands. Glancing down at her lips and Pomni copying as she looked at mine, we drew each other close until our foreheads touched.

Eyes locked upon each other, we both close the gap and just as our lips meet, our eyes flutter shut. I could feel her moan in my mouth as we kiss. Eyes remaining closed, I lick her lips, seeking permission to enter. She opens her mouth, granting permission so as my tongue tangled with hers, we deepen the kiss, though it became sloppy, we didn’t care.

When the need for air arose, we broke the kiss with a loud smack. Panting as we gaze at each other, one of my hands cupping her cheek while she held the other in both her hands. My thumb gently stroking her cheek, I let out a sigh, feeling my heart suddenly pick up the pace. “Pomni, we should talk.”

With a smile, Pomni shakes her head gently. “Not here. Let’s go somewhere else.” As she stands, she pulls me up to my feet and we walk out of the pillow fort, ignoring the fact I don’t have anything else on. Though Pomni didn’t seem to notice, just pulling me along to our destination.
