A soft sound. Barely noticeable over the melody playing in her ears. But present.
Thump.
Electricity shot through her veins, and she wrenched the headphones off.
Mother-
Silence.
If her mother had heard, there was no reason for her not to come in.
Mafuyu's shoulders relaxed, and she put her headphones back on. She touched her index and middle finger to her throat, as she had been doing habitually for the past week now, whenever she thought she heard someone. Her pulse was racing.
Bluish light cast a glow across the room, illuminating the glossy wood of her door. It was probably bad for her eyes. She didn't particularly care. She wanted to get this done.
A notification.
Someone had commented on her song. Not many people did that, seeing as the music wasn't something they'd want others to know they listened to.
It didn't matter to her what others thought of her work.
She opened it.
Oh.
There was a link to a track sitting there. The sender's username just read "star".
Acting mysterious much, she thought. But it wasn't like it didn't pique her interest.
Mafuyu clicked on the link, closing her eyes.

This sound…
It was hers. And yet it wasn't. It was rawer, more powerful, filled with something that made her chest feel cold. Her grip tightened on her mouse. Did someone make this using her song?
She clicked on the person's profile. Empty. The profile picture was plain black, like hers. A fan? Unimportant. This person's sound was intoxicating, and she wanted more.
