Zhai'a placed the kettle back on the stove and reached for one of the timers arrayed in a neat row along a nearby shelf, part of a set that had been a gift from another of his partners. He studied the grains of sand in the bottom half of the miniature hourglass, tail switching thoughtfully as he pondered how exactly this was going to go, and how likely it was that it would result in lukewarm water and an unpalatably bitter drink. Which would win out this time: his husband's fussiness about tea, or his thirst for something else entirely?
