Work Text:
Not far away from the Wayne Manor as the children keep complaining and arguing with one another, Batman waits in the shadows. He observes the Giordano Botanical Gardens and its quietness until a cool breeze makes his capes waves and he simply knows who is approaching him.
— How are the kids?
Superman hovers closer before he questions:
— At the moment? Hmmm, now they’re complaining about having to clean up.
— Huh.
— Do you need help?
— Huh.
— Is that a ‘yes’?
— Huh, no. I actually thought you needed help.
— So you’ve really fled.
— Someone has to patrol.
— Of course. So, what exactly are you doing now?
— Ivy’s been quiet, I’m just checking to… what?
— You can say that you’ve missed me. — Batman does not answer, but the sudden rise of his heartbeat is enough. Superman decides to tease again: — So, do you have any plans for tomorrow? — Batman keeps quiet, and it makes Superman’s smile grow wider. — You really do, don’t ya?
The slip of the accent makes Batman smile faintly. He can not hear, but it is the alien’s turn to have a sudden rise on his heartbeat.
— What do you say about Italian?
— Ah, I love going to Bamonte’s. Are we going in disguise or it’ll be a normal date?
— Do you seriously think I’d invite you on a date to spy the Italian mob in Gotham?
— We’ve done it before and the food is very good.
Batman huffs, and he really can not deny that. Then, he decides to confess:
— I was thinking about flying us there.
— I always knew you like me carrying you around.
Instead of just correcting his assumption, Batman laughs and playfully bumps his shoulder on Superman’s.
— We can take the jet, and stay the night.
— Is this the moment you say you already have reservations?
— Huh.
— Wait a sec! Really? But you were so against it earlier, accusing me of– wait! Were you planning to go there with someone else?
— I already have the jet, the hotel and the restaurant booked, but I’d go alone.
— Huh.
It is Superman’s turn to grunt, and when Batman turns to face him, he can see that adorable pout on his lips.
— For work, I was going for work.
— On Valentine’s? — Batman sighs and agrees. — Alone? — He agrees once more and it makes Superman frowns. — What were your plans then? Meet someone there?
— Can you stop that for a second and look at me? — As the alien does not flinches, Batman takes a deep breath and confesses: — My plan was to be away from you. — As Superman finally turns to face him, Batman sees on his eyes his wishes of asking why or keep inquiring if he would meet someone there. He decides to interrupt it the best way he can think of. — Come closer, Kal.
Without even questioning it, the alien leans on the bat’s direction and just follows when Batman holds his face with both hands and pulls him the rest of the way to hide completely on the shadows. As Batman’s back hit a wall, he is already too entranced by the kiss to notice and keeps pulling the alien closer. They keep kissing for so long that Batman’s lips start to get numb, he does not complain when the alien lifts him or smashes his flash without a care for the suit, nor he does stop it when he listens to Ivy’s giggles and the unmistakable laugh from Harley that follows, no, he is busy doing something far more important at the moment. When Superman finally stops the kiss, the bat thinks it is because Superman is listening the struggle of his lungs to keep kissing instead of breathing, only as the alien places his feet on the ground again is that he finally notices the reason why.
— Are you in a healthy relationship now or Superman is planning to destroy the planet? — Poison Ivy questions with a smile.
— Oh, we should go on a double date. What about setting fireworks on the bay? Ah! We could go swim in Robinson Park’s lake — Harley cheers, she really seems to appreciate the idea.
— It’s February. — It is Batman’s only remark, he is still distracted by the kisses.
— Can’t he heat the water, though? Or if I make a fire big enough to…
— Harley — Batman warns and she goes quiet, then, she smiles and suggests:
— What about one of Bruce Wayne’s properties? He seems the type to have heated pools around.
— You have to stop invading people’s homes.
— Has she… — Superman starts to ask looking at Batman, but Harley interrupts him before finishing.
— Hey! It was only twice and there was only a hot tub. Actually one time, because the second he invited me for dinner.
— What? You went in a date with Bruce Wayne?
Ivy asks looking appalled, if Batman looked to his side, he would see the same expression in Superman’s face.
— Not a date, I went there to use the tub and he offered me food because I was sad. It was when you held that woman’s hand. Hey! We still haven’t discussed that!
— She was on the floor.
— She had legs!
— She was in a wheelchair.
— And you couldn’t resist her charms and ran to pick her up.
— She’s 89.
— So what? Don’t you like older women? I saw how you started to talk to her about flowers.
— We were on a flower shop.
— Pshhh, you’re full of excuses. I think I’ll go to the hot tub again.
— Harley! Don’t you dare– at least take me, too.
The couple keep quarreling about who is going to the hot tub and going away without more interest in the couple or their ideas for double dates. Before Superman can questions if Batman is just letting them invade wherever the place his hot tub is, the bat turns to him and wonders:
— You’re not going to make me run after you threatening to go to Bruce Wayne’s hot tub, are you?
The alien holds back a smile and makes a serious expression, then, with his index finger tapping his chin, Superman ponders:
— Hmm, the tub is taken already. Maybe I could find one of the several indoors pools he has. What do you say? Oh, Ivy is threatening to torture Bruce and even take his eyes off if he sees Harley naked, are you doing the same?
Batman approaches Superman and places one hand on his chest before whispering:
— I heard he’s taken already. I wouldn’t worry with him.
— You sure? Then both of us could go to one of the pools.
— Hmm, I’ll think about it. — Batman starts to walk in the opposite direction the other couple went, he starts to observe the path they had taken before. — I’ll send you the location of the flight, prepare for three days.
— Three? But I have to w…
— Don’t worry about it.
— Have you spoken to my boss already?
— Not yet. Don’t worry.
— Should I take the suit?
— A swimsuit? Hmmm, I’ll think about it. — The alien laughs, he hovers close to the bat again and gives him a kiss on his cheek. — What?
— You’re too cute. — Another kiss. — The kids are coming after you because they think we’re together. — One more kiss. — I’ll go back to Metropolis, see you tomorrow. — One last kiss on his lips before a swish of air makes his cape wave again. Then, slowly Batman descends to follow Ivy’s trail on the Gardens.
