Work Text:
Rerir doesn't remember much about the sun, the true sun, in all of his horrid life. He vaguely remembers how it felt to have the weak light of the imitation of his long gone homeland hit his eyes and how he'd pretended it stung his eyes awake for another day to avoid suspicion. He's admired the way it scattered the colors of his beloved girlfriends eyes and how it lit her hair like an angels halo.
That's about the only memories he has of the sun in any meaningful capacity. Of course more recently he's felt the light of the sun in the sky as he attempts to track the moon goddess but even more so he's felt the light of another god.
He only heard it briefly but the idea that they could help strengthen the moons power was more than enough reason to try to keep them separated from her during the fight. What he hadn't anticipated was how strong their light was.
He may have grabbed the edge of their scarf around their neck barely touching their skin but that was more than enough to burn him. Their light flashed blinding him temporarily forcing him to let go, white flames quickly spreading up his bandaged arm.
For a moment he felt dazed memories of a smile his lover passing through his eyes. The flames burned and maybe he screamed, he's not sure, but it felt peaceful. For just a moment he could think clearly through the engulfing heat.
Yet it was over as they collapsed in front of him their friends rushing in to snatch them out of his range. He did not pursue focused on dodging the spear swiped at him.
The fight lasted for just a few moments but their goddess had escaped with their sun and their friends in tow leaving him in silence. It had been the clearest his mind had been since being torn apart and all it did was amplify his desire to see them again as he begins his search in the late night.
Though now he's not entirely sure who he's thinking about.
