As their wedding date approached, Anthony Crowley and Asa Fell spent nearly every moment together. Days passed, with flirty kisses stolen as they dressed for work and cozy evenings passed reading or watching telly with Anthony’s head cradled on Asa’s lap. It was easy and it was sweet, so the sudden deviance from this routine that had Anthony anxious.
Asa had always spent a lot of time in his study, restoring books or working with his watercolors while Anthony marked papers, but there was no current project for him to eagerly show off to his fiancee. For at least an hour or two a day, Asa slipped away into his little office and insisted all was well, but still, something has to be happening. Every question Anthony asked was deflected or brushed off.
Tonight, though, Anthony got his answers.
Anthony was sat up in bed, finishing some online game of solitaire, when Asa sidled into their room in a sequined waistcoat and teal cape, topped off with a drawn-on mustache and an honest-to-god top hat. The blond wore a positively giddy smile on his face, and Anthony couldn’t help but match it. Asa really was adorable when he was excited.
So began a new kind of show; Asa introduced himself as Fell the Marvelous. He announced a variety of tricks, and really, it would be pitiful to watch him stick his tongue out in frustration while trying to turn a turnip into an inkwell if it wasn’t so damn charming. He pulled a coin from behind Anthony’s ear, fumbling it all, and Anthony barely held in his laughter when a whole deck of cards fluttered to the ground instead of fanning out neatly.
