Work Text:

One minute Lucy is trying to get Tim, trying to make sure he is still breathing. She put his mask on him to make sure he could breathe a little better. But he was unconscious, and she was worried. The next thing she knows, they are loading Tim up and moving him out of the room. She follows behind them.

She watches as they load him up into the ambulance, and when they try to separate her from time to time she refuses.

“Sergeant Chen.”

“Let me ride with him.” Lucy says. “You can check me out there.” She hears a sigh and then a familiar voice.

It’s Grey. At least she thinks it’s Grey, she has taken her eyes off of Tim.

“I wouldn’t separate them if I were you.” Grey says. “They come as a package deal.” She doesn’t hear much more than that before she is stepping onto the ambulance. She sits down and reaches for Tim’s hand.

He’s still not awake but his chest is moving up and down. “You pulled a desk off of him?” One of the paramedics asked?”

“Yes.”

“And gave him your mask?”

“He needed it more than I did.” Lucy replies. She still has her eyes on his face. “He would have done the same for me.”

“I am sure.” The paramedic replies. “You will need to get all that glass out.” She looks down at her arm, and maybe she’s a little worse than she thought. She was thrown across the room but Tim had a desk on him.

“Is he going to be okay?” Lucy asks cupping Tim’s hand with both of hers. “He’s not—”

“His breathing seems fine. He just passed out from inhaling the smoke and having a desk almost crush him.” The paramedic says. Lucy closes her eyes and lifts his hand up to her mouth.

He needs to be okay. He has to be okay.

Tim wakes up to beeping machines and someone holding his hand tightly. He looks over and sees Lucy almost asleep. She looks exhausted and like she hasn’t slept for a week.

“Luce.” He says softly but his voice is hoarse. She jumps up right away, and sighs in relief.

“Oh thank god.” She says. She comes closer and runs her fingers through his hair. “You had me scared.”

“Sorry.” Tim says and then coughs. “The station exploded?” That’s pretty much all he remembers. One minute he was looking at Lucy and Celina and the next there was a noise.

“Yes.” Lucy says. She brings her hand down to cup his cheek. “You were being crushed by your desk and unconscious.”

“Oh.”

“I got you out.” Lucy says looking quite proud and Tim wouldn’t have it any other way. “But it was touch and go. And when we got to the hospital… they separated us.”

“How did you end back up in here?” Tim asks curiously. She looks like she has a few scrapes and bruises.

“I got fixed up and demanded to see you.” She says. “It was way too long in my opinion. But—”

“What’s wrong with me?” Tim asks because it hurts to move. It hurts to breathe but if he was crushed by a desk.

“You have broken ribs, you inhaled the smoke and—” Lucy pauses. “You were thrown across the room too. They said you will be fine, your body just needed to rest and recover.”

“Wow.”

“I know.” Lucy says and she rests her elbows on the bed. “I really don’t want to survive another fire. It’s not as romantic as I thought it would be.”

Tim shakes his head a little but he’s smiling. He probably would be in a worst mood if Lucy wasn’t by his side.

He always wants her by his side, whether it was a time in danger or something else. He always wants her by his side.

“You are okay?” He asks. She nods her head and reaches out for his hand. She squeezes it and smiles at him.

“I’m good.” She reassures him. Tim nods but doesn’t let her let go of his hand. “I love you.”

Tim squeezes her hand once. He loves her so much, and he’s more determined than ever to give her that trip to Paris.

“I love you too.”

Tim is released from the hospital a few hours later. Lucy wheels him out in a wheelchair despite his protests.

(She just rolled her eyes and pushed him gently back into the chair when he tried to get up.)

“You are so stubborn.” She says as she helps him into the car. “Just let people help you Tim.”

“I can do things on my own.” He says. She just closes the door and makes her way to the other side.

“I’m happy you are okay.” Lucy says when she gets in. She looks over at him, and he looks exhausted. “Now you can read that book again.” Tim’s face softens almost immediately.

“I never really did thank you properly for that.” Tim says. Lucy just gives him a look, she knows exactly what he means. They wouldn’t be able to do any of that for awhile.

“You don’t need to.” Lucy says. “I know it meant a lot to you.”

“You mean a lot to me.” Tim says and he leans over to kiss her. “You know me inside and out. You—”

“I love you?” She asks. Tim nods and she leans in to kiss him this time.

“Yes.” She says. “Yes I do.”

“Good.” Tim says. “I think I’m going to have to have a nurse.” Lucy lets out a laugh, and starts the car.

This was a crazy past few hours but she wouldn’t have it any other way. She gets to take care of Tim, the man she loves more than anything. The love of her life.

And that’s all that matters.
