Work Text:

Geo awoke to rays of sun stretching through the crumpled curtains. He loved early mornings such as these. The way the light caught on the various suncatchers hanging around, sending an array of colours dancing across the room. The suncatchers were shoddy work, but he cherished them either way, they were gifts from Fritz and Spitz after all. He treasured the fleeting quietness before the Rookery erupted in petty squabbles and laughter. It was distinctly warm, a rare occurrence in The Land of Lost Things.

A mop of black hair suddenly pushed itself into his neck, apparently it wasn't warm enough.

Cole was never a morning person, much to his discontent. Geo could count on one hand the amount of times Cole had woken up before him, but he was very much a clingy sleeper. Despite being such a towering figure, he had somehow wedged himself into Geo, as if trying to merge their bodies into one.

He brought up a hand to softly card through Cole’s hair, much akin to a cat, they had discovered that the gentle pets bring him a source of comfort. Geo thought he could use some of that comfort right then, especially due to yesterday’s arduous battle with The Hoarder. According to Bonzle, the fight came dangerously close, with Geo and his elemental mastery at the Rookery, Cole was unable to properly take it head on while simultaneously protecting the kids. He managed to ward it off for the time being, not without taking some serious hits to the abdomen.

Geo sighed. He wished he could take them all away from here, away from the Hoarder, away from the constant wariness and danger. Spitz and Fritz deserved a home free of fear, Bonzle deserved a place where she could relax with her knitting, and Cole deserved, well, as cheesy as it sounded, he deserved the world.

Shaking away his remorse, he buried his face into Cole’s hair, tugging him impossibly closer, traces of the orange scented soap they had recently scavenged lingered on his skin. Cole let out a noise of content and somehow nuzzled even closer, making Geo chuckle lightly.

He really is just an overgrown cat, he mused.

Slowly, he watched as Cole begrudgingly roused from sleep, letting out a sleepy huff onto Geo’s bare chest. Pretty hues of red, blue, and purple highlighting the scar etched into his face.

“Mornin’ darling,” Geo pressed a kiss to his hair. “You doing alright today?”

“Geo,” Cole mumbled drowsily, peeking out from his place under Geo’s chin. “No complicated questions until noon.”

“If that was a complicated question, you’re more exhausted than I thought.”

He tucked himself back into the warmth. “Even more reason to stay in bed then.”

“I guess the kids’ll understand if breakfast is a bit late today.” Geo smiled down at him, stroking his cheekbone with his thumb. Unsurprisingly, Cole melted into it.

“You’re assuming they won’t be barging in as soon as they wake up.”

“Well, you have an hour or two before that happens,” Geo chuckled, making an attempt to unwrap himself from Cole. “So you can get back to your beauty sleep, while I go and shower”.

In response, Cole simply tightened his hold on him, tangled their legs together and laid his head firmly on his chest. Geo huffed and reluctantly surrendered to the weight keeping him in position, “I don’t think you were taught to use your super strength like that in your ninja school.”

“I’m offended that you think I need to use my powers to hold you down.” Cole retorted playfully, bracing his hands on Geo’s chest to leverage himself into a sitting position. He trailed his hands down to the Fusion Master’s hips, securely holding him in place. Geo felt heat rush to the tips of his ears and spread across his cheek, leave it to Cole to render him a blushing mess with one move.

Leaning upwards, he reached out to cup his face tenderly, watching as an endearing smile crept across his face. Cole’s flushed face was just impossible to resist, so with that, Geo surged forwards, capturing his face in a sleepy kiss. As though the Earth itself tilted, they fell into a natural rhythm, a steady embrace sustained by their morning bliss. Kissing Cole felt like the recognition of two interwoven spirits, like here in their shared bed, is exactly where he is supposed to be. Like it’s the most normal thing in the world.

A hand began softly caressing Geo’s waist, startling him out of his thoughts, “Daydreaming about me?” Cole muttered cheekily under his breath, eyes lingering on his lips.

“Just thinking about how quickly you’ve become a part of me.”

“You’re such a sap.” He jabbed teasingly, but joined their lips together once more. This one felt more desperate than the last, like Cole had been jumpstarted into action by his words. He slid an arm up Geo’s neck, holding him in place as he claimed his lips. Being so close, Geo could again smell that same orange scented soap, and if he concentrated, the faint traces of pine wood.

Lips already parted, Geo darted his tongue through, teasing into his mouth. He savoured the way Cole’s breaths became heavier and heavier, as he grew more and more desperate, releasing soft little tapered-off whines. Clearly exasperated by his teasing, Cole lifted a leg to properly straddle him, all the while deepening the kiss as if his life depended on it. Sparks ran down Geo’s spine, and he responded with a large hand curling around Cole’s muscled thigh; he marvelled at just how toned his partner was.

His fangs scratched sharply along Cole's upper lip, causing Geo to pull away in worry.

"Shit, sorry!" He hissed, swiping a thumb over the small specks of blood dotting Cole’s lip. "You okay?"

Cole’s eyes darkened with pleasure as they raked over Geo’s prone form, “Geo, if you don’t do that again, I will seriously consider breaking up with you.”

Geo looked up in surprise, but quickly composed himself and eagerly pushed upwards and recaptured his lips into another open-mouthed kiss. In one fluid motion, Geo flipped their positions, settling Cole in their mound of pillows. Cole gazed up at Geo from beneath his eyelashes, mouth slightly agape and a pretty red stain peppering his cheeks.

“Does this mean you’re staying in bed?” Cole murmured, slightly out of breath and eyes dilated.

Before he could answer, a flurry of footsteps emerged from outside their door, followed by frantic knocking and the door slamming open. They shared a fond look of amusement, as the delicate quiet of the morning was quickly disrupted.

“Geo! Cole! Wake up, we’re hungry!” Spitz and Fritz hollered, and upon realising Geo and Cole’s positions, they slammed their eyes shut. “Ewww, gross!”

Geo looked down at Cole, who hid his face in his hands, “I guess we’re getting up after all.”

"Hey, hey, Geo, while I appreciate you attempting to make us breakfast, the kids and I would rather eat something edible." Cole chided, planting a peck on his cheek, as he ushered Geo away from the stove. From their seats, Fritz and Spitz snickered and continued their game of kicking each other under the table.

"Uh, I think I can handle a couple of pancakes," He protested, but surrendered his spot at the stove regardless. ”Anyway, you’re not supposed to be straining yourself with your injuries.”

Cole shot him a sly look, “Do I need to remind you of what we were doing like ten minutes ago? And there’s no need to worry, Geo, they’re just bruises. I’ve had worse.”

Geo frowned, while he knew Cole is more than capable of handling himself, it doesn’t stop his constant worrying. He wrapped his arms around Cole’s waist from behind, resting his chin on his shoulder. “At least let me help.”

It was at that moment that Bonzle entered the kitchen, settling down at the dining table and receiving a wild, aimless kick from Spitz’s direction. He pointedly averted his gaze, allowing Fritz to apparently ‘win’ their game with a well-placed jab to the thigh.

"Good morning Bonzle! Could you help me convince Geo that making pancakes doesn't count as a strenuous activity?" Cole joked.

Bonzle retorted dryly, "Well that depends, is it necessary to make pancakes with a 6ft munce-geckle hybrid draped across your back?"

“Okay, okay, fine. I get it,” Geo rolled his eyes and smiled, detaching himself from Cole and resigning himself to setting the table instead, “I still don’t think my pancakes would’ve turned out that bad.”

“Hmm, I doubt Fritz and Spitz would agree.”

Spitz giggled, smirking slightly, "Yeah, sorry Geo, we'd rather not eat a pile of ash." Not sounding the least bit sorry.

"Wow, tell me what you really think." Geo feigned a gasp. He finally took a seat and ruffled Fritz’s hat, making him squawk in surprise.

Geo is not a big believer in fate or destiny, but he’d easily make an exception for them, his family. Because, even though each of them were lost once, he truly believes some invisible force brought them all together, and he is eternally grateful to that.

Cole turned to the table, arms laden with plates. “Oh I almost forgot, guess what turned up at last week’s scavenge!” He blurted with a mischievous glint in his eyes. Cole set the plates down and darted back into the cupboards. With a dramatic shake, he revealed an ordinary bottle of maple syrup. The kids gasped.

“No way!” Fritz exclaimed, scrambling up to grab the bottle. “That’s such a lucky find, thank you Cole!”

Spitz flung his arms outwards, narrowly avoiding smacking Bonzle in the face, “Yeah, it’s been, like, years, since we’ve had this!”

Content with their surprise, they began drowning their pancakes in syrup, oblivious to the wry looks being sent their way. Geo watches his family, his odd bunch of lost souls now found. He watches Bonzle brush off the disarray next to her and continue her most recent knitting project. He watches Spitz blatantly sneak pieces of pancake from his brother’s plate. He watches Fritz attempt to bat off his thievery with his fork, waging some kind of cutlery war between the two. And he watches Cole settle down next to him, giggling at their antics, before eagerly starting on his own food.

After ending up in The Land of Lost Things, Geo never believed he would experience trivial things such as enjoying a home cooked meal with his loved ones. He never even thought he’d even have loved ones. But sitting here in the moment, it clicked just how lucky he really was. Being able to find this family in such a castaway land? Running away from Shintaro was the best thing he had ever done, he thought.

Unbeknownst to him, Cole’s gaze drifted to Geo’s faraway expression. “Everything okay Geo?” He questioned around a mouthful of food.

Geo blinked quickly, meeting his eyes with a warmhearted smile, “Of course,” He took Cole’s empty hand with his own and stroked his knuckles, “Everything is perfect.”
