Summary
A decade into her relationship with Lightning McQueen, Sally waits for news after The Crash and is forced to think about the fact that neither of them are particularly good at dealing with change. (Maybe it’s the Doc in them.)
Definitely not related: Bobby and Cal navigate serious stuff. Like their careers ending. And their best friend possibly dying. And some other things they’ve been avoiding.
Or: Sally and Lightning from the very beginning, flipping through the past and present. Featuring Father Figure Doc Hudson, slow burn Bobby/Cal, found family, fandom reddit being absolutely unhinged, the “why aren’t Lightning and Sally married” convo, and lots of exploration about how we handle grief.

Summary
The 2017 season continues after what happened at Florida and it's not the easy cruise to the Cup Jackson Storm was hoping for. Last season was a breeze but now the field is almost entirely Next Gens, like him. Lightning McQueen is racing his last season, which is annoying at worst and funny at best. Not a real threat.
No, it's not McQueen that's showing to be a threat to the name he built for himself. Florida was not a fluke. Ramirez is here and she's here to win, just like him.
So as the season drags on he finds himself battling Ramirez, road courses, Texas heat, lies from people he needs to trust the most, paranoia starting to override his carefully honed apathy, and his sponsor tightening their grip on his every move.
And all the while, Ramirez's temporary crew chief won't stop being nice to him.

If Sora had been sipping on coffee, she might have been the one dumping it all over herself this time. “Nope,” she says, overly-cheerful. Lloyd stares at her for a beat too long and she chuckles nervously. “I, uh- might go check on Arin though. Not- not because he needs to checked-in on, just- doing a nice friendly thing, yep, okay, bye, I’m leaving now.” She slips out of her chair and dashes out of the kitchen. She scowls, smacking the side of her head as soon as she’s out of sight and speed-walking down some hallway she doesn’t find familiar.
Idiot, now he’ll definitely be suspicious.
