Work Text:

Wifies straggled himself on his bike--the wheels and handle linings and in-between had dirt--dirt that brought him back to his many memories of him and his best friend traversing because they didn't have much else to do. His shoulders slumped in a mellow way just thinking about it.

He waved his mother farewell and set out on his path forward, checking his phone every few minutes to see if Parrot had texted him an update, or anything else.

His tail would give a light wag at the sole idea of him. And an animated wag-- a jitter of sorts, at the thought of them hanging out again.

It had been a millennium since they saw each other outside of school hours.

Parrot was too busy with learning how to fly without crashing into a tree every half minute, and Wifies was too caught up in a web of acing every assignment. He didn't really know why though... Why did he care about a few numbers and letters like they would really matter in the future? Maybe it was to forge a better future for himself?

A better tomorrow; for him and Parrot.

Wifies, snapped out of his daydreaming and calculated the coordinates correctly-- and was less than 100 yards from there at the timbers where they promised to meet up.

He scanned the nearby arena, searching for a zone where he could lay his bike into something without it being laced with mud or dirt when he'd come back.

His violet stare softened as his vision focused on a railing that held Parrot's signature goggles. The ones he couldn't live without.

The luminescence captured and clung to the lens so... Flawless. The way rays of light would capture water in those fancy aquariums. The way the sun collapsed against ordinary spectacles was artwork.

Just as he began to admire the kaleidoscope, just as his canine ears lazily diminished downwards and his tail perched against his shorts-- Parrot's chirp of bliss, and a smile of genuineness made Wifies flinch, calling him out of his daze.

Parrot rammed into Wifies as soon as he saw him, the two falling to the ground with Parrot's arms, pulling him close. Parrot headbumped him to the ground, their visions spinning.

'So much for personal space...' the mutt thought, but he kept it to himself. After all, he enjoyed Parrot's affection, his intent and how he expressed his utter joy.

Parrot's year-round coat that encapsulated a great majority of his outdoor memories, and Wifies' hoodie he kept wearing on a daily basis-- despite his array of other sweaters; collapsed onto each other.

Both articles of clothing made up a key identity to their personalities and views.

To who they were inside.

They both immediately choked out an awkward laugh before it was quick to flare into an unsolicited hysteria.

To other people-- more so, passers-bys, they probably looked like total maniacs who had too much to drink. Even if that wasn't the case.

But those strangers didn't know the hardships they'd gone through together. Those people didn't know what they had to endure to capture that exact moment in time.

It was all worth it in the end if this is where they were now.

Parrot stood up first, or at least made an attempt to. He was mainly wobbling like a chick, starting over and over again to maintain a proud stance.

He helped Wifies off the ground not any later, struggling to catch a steady breath-- Wifies took a deep inhale, grabbing onto a handlebar as he wiped his tears, his voice steady.

"Dude-" he choked out, tears of laughter still dribbling at the corners of the downturned parts of his eyes. He wiped them with a gentle ease.

Parrot's words were cut off not a second afterwards, when Wifies let out a euphoric snort of laughter that made his generally toneless and umber eyes glisten and squint for once. Something he brought he'd never get to see-- only imagine.

It was something about the way the sound of his elated laughs and blissful smile that could light up a city-- that could make everybody else feel warm inside like he did.

Parrot felt like he was on cloud nine, but he quickened his composure when he realized the sun started to set, or at least went down faster than he thought it was.

He didn't have his phone or watch on him, so for all he knew, it could be anywhere from 2 to 6 in the afternoon. But it's 2 o'clock somewhere, right?

"What can I say? I missed you, dude! Now c'mon, let's start walking the track before it gets too dark." Parrot clamored out, rubbing dirt off from his knees and turning his back towards Wifies.

Wifies scrambled to his feet catching up with Parrot as fast as he could.

"Oh my God bro, I have so much stuff to talk to you about. Where do I begin? Well I mean-- for a starting point, I signed up for another after-school hiking club. I thought I would hate it, but it's actually fine! You should think about joining this year! It's pretty cool, if we don't count the fee..." Parrot babbled, his wings fluttering ever so slightly every now and then.

Wiifes let him ramble on about it. Every insignificant detail meaning the galactic universe to the other. Each blow of air that made Parrot frightened at the breeze by the way his large wings flourished, revealing more lime and blue feathers that emerged from the depths. Baby feathers that looked brand new and hadn't seen enough light sprung out.

Wifies searched the park as they went along, Parrot non-stop complaining and drabbling in shards of memories that had happened recently. Everything he could think of, he admits out loud. Hopping from topic to topic.

"Parrot." Wifies interrupted, his gaze fixated on the lone river that blew drowsily. A calm demeanor of the water cradled him, cradled the seraphic rays of light that turned into an array of colors-- mainly turquoises and spring-like greens that made the candlelight yellows at the tips of the soft waves more prominent as the sun set lower, creating an ombre that stretched throughout the forest.

If it were possible, he would choose to stay here forever at the bayside of the river's touch and beaut.

He responded by turning his head in the direction to were Wifies was and why Wifies was so charmed.

The avian's Converse graveled into the grassland close to the waters, watching the sunlight cast rays that baked his fur-- but kissed the ocean.

He was confused about how the view was so extravagant, crouching and dipping his fingertips lightly below the tips of the almost translucent waters, as if it would bite him if he got too confident or if it were merely an illusion.

He was in a slumped position at that moment, but relaxed his body shortly after by sitting on his knees once he felt comfortable enough with the atmosphere and the heat, a satisfying breeze blowing by him to stimulate his sweat from the summer sun.

Wiifes noticed, resting his head on Parrot's shoulder.

Parrot didn't begin a speech, or dare mutter a word whilst Wifies blocked out all the outer noise and anything that wasn't their atmosphere. Nothing mattered anymore.

Wifies' tail calmed in the simmering seraph and Parrot held him close against him, wrapping his arm around the stooped canine's waist.

Parrot noticed the touch of the canid's tail by the way the fur involuntarily grazed Parrot's tender claws, but he didn't speak of it.

Parrot's eyes got heavy and lidded, but ceased to make a remark on it. He was a heavy sleeper, and didn't want to be left alone if Wifies trudged back to his house.

They both forgot about their duties to head home for the day, and rested on the meadows until they closed their eyes for the night, crickets accompanied them with their midnight chirps and tiny ladybugs rested on them for comfort. The teensy bugs didn't disrupt the harmony, only added to it.

This was beyond sensational, this was exactly how they mutually wanted to live their days together in the future years.
