Work Text:

Game night for the Nightshades meant a couple of things: a fun and enjoyable day where they played board and video games the whole time, egging each other on and creating memories. They were also incredibly chaotic and competitive with allies being questioned, friendships tested, and enemies possibly made over monopoly.

Usually scheduled during the weekend, they quickly became a Nightshades tradition, similar to the roof parties and occasional skinny-dip. They’d sit around in a circle, their chosen game in the middle on a table, or pick their teams, stand on the other sides of the room, and they’d start. First, it’d be chill, people excited and getting into their ‘roles’, it’s only been ten minutes, and then, chaos starts.

“I didn’t cheat! You’re just bad at the game!” Kent had shouted.

“I know you peaked at the answers the whole time! You can barely spell ‘restaurant’, there’s no way you figured out ‘definitely’!!” Divina shouted back being held back by Bianca, while Yoko was cackling loudly in the background.

Or it was like…

“YOU DID IT!”

“NO, YOU DID IT!”

“NO, I DIDN’T DO IT!”

“I SAW YOU WITH THE MURDER VICTIM, DON’T LIE TO ME!”

“And bam, I win,” said Bianca with a smug smile at the arguing and astonished looks.

Precisely this. Utter chaos, but fun chaos, one that creates memories and makes you wish to come back later. It’s no wonder it became a Nightshade tradition.

However, that chaos aspect took a whole new meaning when they let Wednesday and Enid join them. A rather risky move, they know, but in their defense, Enid’s puppy eyes are too powerful, and they still felt bad they underestimated her to the point of not telling her about the society, so they let her in. Wednesday came along too, which they sort of predicted because often she and Enid were a matching pair you could not separate for your own safety.

Wednesday didn’t even want to come here, she very firmly refused to join their society, even now. The only reason she joined: she too was not immune to the puppy eyes. Whipped, Yoko would fake cough, then dodge a knife thrown at her.

So, they were now included…and it might have either been the worst or best decision of the Nightshades’ lives. Depends on who you asked.

It began normal, as they always did. All of them in a circle, cards in their hands, and the dice was rolled. “1, 2, 3, 4, ooohh I got St. James Place, yay!” Enid exclaimed excitedly, moving her token forward those spaces and consulting her fake money. The rest went on, Kent ended up in jail again – ‘that hat guy is out to get me’ – Yoko and Ajax were biding for the same property, Bianca won, while Wednesday just looked incredibly bored and unamused the whole time.

Seems innocent right?

Just a couple of friends playing Monopoly. Nothing wrong with.

Then it goes…

“How The Fuck did I go bankrupt?! I made good investment choices!” Yelled Ajax.

“You put money on a 1000$ house on the worst side of town, what did you think was going to happen?!” Divina yelled back.

“Finally, something interesting.” Wednesday muttered.

“How am I in jail again?!!” Kent cried.

“Who stole my cards?” Bianca said, looking around the couch and floor.

No one saw Wednesday’s invisible smirk at the siren, only that she looked mildly intrigued at the rising tensions. Well, until it was her wolf.

“You cheated!” Enid exclaimed, pointing at Yoko, who was very cheerful over her win.

“Did not,”

“Did too!”

“Not my fault you’re a sore loser, pup,” Yoko shrugged with a barely concealed smile much to Enid’s anger.

Which ended up being a bad move, because in Enid’s frustration and anger, she growled, claws drawn, and flipped the board over, sending everything flying out and creating more friction among the group.

“Much more interesting indeed.” Mused Wednesday with a slight curve of her lip.

In a nutshell, chaos.

In Nightshade tradition, the game nights continued in their chaotic ways, only with a little extra side of wolf and Addams action. If competitions were rough before, they were deadly now. Simply put, both Wednesday and Enid were extremely competitive, against each even worse. Especially each other. And it was a horrible decision to play Uno.

Already a backstabbing game with all the;

“Don’t do it…” pleaded Divina.

“I’m sorry, babe,” replied Yoko. With a heavy heart, she’d pull out a ‘draw 4+ cards’ down.

“Green!” Ajax would exclaim as he placed a multi-color card.

“Oh, come on!” Bianca said in frustration with her two cards and taking from the pile only to sigh in further agitation from not getting the right color.

Somehow, Wednesday kept winning.

Three times.

And somehow, always against Enid, who was growing increasingly more competitive. After the third, she’d have enough. “You kidding me?! You’re doing something shady! I know it!”

“I have done nothing, perhaps you overestimated your skills in this challenge.” The seer replied, calm as can be, with a little air of smugness against the wolf.

Enid snarled, dropping her cards, then lunged and tackled Wednesday to the ground. They wrestled, struggled, and rolled around on the floor for some time, pushing and shoving as they tried to pin the other down.

“TAKE IT BACK!”

“Never. You simply have horrible luck.”

“Why you little!! Arg!”

Meanwhile, the Nightshades watched all this happen with amusement and laughter. Particularly at the way the two’s clothes mushed together like a pink and black version of the yin and yang symbols. Not to mention, it was genuinely entertaining to watch them wrestle on the floor. Some placed bets on who would win.

“My money is on Enid,” Bianca whispered.

“I think Addams’ got it all in the bag,”

Though it quickly became apparent that, while the two were equally strong – Enid being a werewolf and Wednesday was an Addams and possessed a few non-normie qualities. Still entertaining for everyone else though.

It only stopped when Yoko spoke up.

“Okay, now I suggest we separate them before they recreate the Honda Odyssey scene in Deadpool and Wolverine,” Yoko stated, to which the rest agreed and nodded except Ajax who looked confused.

“But they’re not in a car,”

They all rolled their eyes at the oblivious gorgon.

Breaking them apart took a much longer time than it should have, but they managed to separate them, for now at least…Enid was still growling and pouting at Wednesday, who stared back with amusement and soft smirks. They carried on to a different game. One that again started out slow and nice, before erupting into fiery chaos where the table was flipped this time, arguments were made, insults were thrown around, and even Wednesday got heated for a moment.

“That is preposterous, that move is illogical and incorrect!” She exclaimed, voice sharp and annoyed with Enid barely holding back laughter.

“Nope, that is perfectly fine according to the rule book,” Bianca explained, smug as ever against the small seer. “Guess you lose this time, Addams,”

Wednesday sent her a hard death glare, before sitting down, muttering every single curse word in three different languages.

The rest of the night went in a similar vein.

They would not have it any other way.
