amane wasn’t really the most popular, sure he knew a few people here and there in some classes, but he didn’t really know them. heck the most personal thing about anyone that he knew was what their birthday was, and that was because they wouldn’t stop talking about it the whole week before. there was one person he was friends with though, nene yashiro. they’d been friends for as long as he could remember, having been in the same daycare when they were little. ever since then, they just clicked like that.

it started out simple, with nene walking over to him the first time he got dropped off with his twin brother by his mom.
“hi! my names nene yashiro, but you can just call me nene, whats your name?” she yelled excitedly, out stretching her hand in greeting.
“uhm.. my names, a-amane..” he nervously replied as she eagerly took his hand in hers.
“heyy, whos this? he looks just like you!”
“oh, thats-“ he paused as his brother jumped up excitedly, “im tsukasa! im amanes younger twin brother! are you amanes girlfriend?” he added as he tilted his head slightly and grinned, before running off to chat with some of the other kids nearby.
“ah, im sorry about him nene, he gets kinda outgoing sometimes..” he broke off with a nervous laugh before getting tugged forwards by a now blushing yashiro.
“its ok.! why dont i introduce you to some of the other kids? oh! hey there aoi! this is amane!”

“omg! amane, look at this cute photo i got of black canyon this morning! isnt he just the cutest?” yashiro started excitedly, running towards her best friend who was now looking down at the phone being shoved in his face with the picture of a tiny hamster shown on it.
“oh wow, i mean i dont know whered id rank that exactly in cuteness when i think about all the others pictures youve shown me of him this week nene..” he laughed before getting a small smack in the arm.
“oh stop it, you cant blame me!” she told back, crossing her arms exasperatedly, turning her head the other way with a fake pout on her face.
“yeah yeah, whatever.” he waved his hand dismissively before continuing, “by the way, do you have any plans for this weekend? we were talking about going camping and my parents said we could each bring a friend.”
“no i dont think so, and probably! ill just have to ask my parents, but they’ll probably say yes!”
“obviously they’re gonna say yes, nene, im their favorite after all.” he finished proudly, a smirk on his face.
as she finishes typing off a message to her mom, the bell rings, announcing to student classes were about to start for the day. “well ill tell you what they say next hour, ok?” she tells him, starting to walk towards her first class.
“alrighty! of course we already know the answer to that because, again, im involved and how could they deny me?” he joked, as he closed his locker and began to walk the opposite way.

It was Friday morning, and Yashiro was in her room finishing up packing her bag for the camping trip she got invited to by amane.
as she was figuring out which pair of shoes she should bring, her phone vibrated beside her, a notification popping up announcing she had a message.
?: NENE! I HEARD YOURE GOING ON A CAMPING TRIP WITH AMANE THIS WEEKEND RIGHT??
Y: uhhh ya i am! why did something happen?
?: no, nothing happened, but yk i was jst thinking abt that fact ur gna get some alone time with him, if yk what i mean!
Y: OMG AOIII STOP WERE JUST FRIENDS I SWEAR:(
A: hehe ikk im jst playing with you nene!
A: but ya i was msging to tell u to have fun and make the most of it! also make sure u keep an eye on the weather! its supposed to storm monday, but u never know it might come earlier than forcasted!
Y: ya i heard about the storm, but dont worry im extra prepared incase that happens
A: okk, but ya im gna have to go ahead and go, were abt to leave the hotel and i still gta grab a few things before that
A: make sure to keep me updatedd!
as she sat her phone back down on the bed, she sighed. she couldn’t help but wonder, what was amane to her? i mean, he was obviously her best friend, anyone could know that, but thats not what she meant. did these feelings she had for him only come out of pure platonic friendship she felt towards him, or was it much more than that? all she could do was shake her head, now wasn’t the time for this! with that she grabbed the pair of shoes she had finally decided on and started out of her room, bag in hand.
