Gifts for a Lifetime of You

Summary:

They were only two weeks into their courting process when Buck received his second gift from Eddie, and it was a sweater, wrapped with a bow and left in his jeep after a long shift. He was giddy as he got in and picked up the piece of clothing, his hands glossing over the soft fabric. He quickly undid the bow and Eddie’s scent filled the jeep. Cinnamon, roasted whiskey and something woody that he couldn’t place but loved all the same.

Work Text:

  1. Flowers

It started with a bouquet of flowers at his front door with a note that simply read Flowers by the sun for the only person who is the sun. And Buck swore he could feel his heart rate pick up. He didn’t know who the flowers were from though as the note was printed and not hand written, but that didn’t matter. He carried the flowers inside, a beautiful bouquet of lilies. He grabbed a vase and filled it with water and placed the flowers inside.

Eddie was coming over later so he made the move to grab some beers from the fridge and order them two pizzas. And honestly, he got two because he knew he would probably eat a whole one all to himself, and because Eddie doesn’t like hawaiian pizza, he likes meat lovers. He placed the order and got comfy on his couch, the omega letting off his comforting scent as he waited.

He only had to wait around fifteen minutes until Eddie was entering Buck's apartment with his keys, “Buck?”

“On the couch!” Buck called happily, still buzzing from the flowers he got.

“Oh,” Eddie saw the flowers on Buck’s island, “you got my flowers? Do you like them?” He asked as he came over to sit down next to Buck on the couch.

“Those were from you? They’re beautiful Eddie!” Buck looked at the alpha.

“Well…I’m really glad you like them, because I-I would like to start courting you. I asked Bobby, and Athena and Maddie, they all said yes…so what do you say?” Eddie asked, his face full of hope.

“I- Yes, Eddie- that’s all I’ve ever wanted.” The omega let out a soft, happy noise and threw himself at Eddie, hugging him so incredibly tight.

  1. Sweater

He let out a happy trill from the back of his throat and pressed his face into the alpha’s sweater. A warmth spread through his body as he inhaled the scent, his mind immediately jumping to make a nest the second he got home. He purred as he nuzzled into the sweater for another five minutes before he left to go back home.

He definitely drove…faster than he would admit, and faster than Athena would ever let him drive, but that was between him, the confines of his jeep and Eddie’s sweater. When he finally pulled up at the house, which was Athena and Bobby’s since he was still house hunting after Eddie came back from El Paso. He arrived and opened the door, making a beeline for his room.

“Ah, whatcha got there, Buck?” came Bobbys voice. The older omega smelled of nutmeg, campfires, and vanilla, as he approached Buck from his spot on the couch. After the lab fiasco, Bobby had chosen to retire, the older omega taking up more baking and cooking as a hobby. Buck whipped around and hid the sweater behind his back.

“Ah- n-nothing Cap.” Buck said nervously.

“I can smell Eddie radiating off of whatever you have,” He then paused, “Is it his first official courting gift?” Bobby asked, a smile stretching across his worn features.

“I- yeah- yeah Pops, it's a sweater.” Buck said, bringing the sweater out so that Bobby could get a good look at it, “I’m gonna add it to my nest.” Bucks cheeks were a light pink color.

“Well, I’m happy for you, kid. You deserve it.” Bobby wrapped Buck in a hug and kissed the top of his head, “Now, go on.” Bobby would be the first to admit to the fact that he saw Buck as his own pup. Which was why he was overjoyed when Eddie came to ask for his permission when it came to courting Buck.

“Thank you, Bobby.” Buck said softly, he knocked his wrist gland against Bobbys then scrambled off to his room to add Eddie’s sweater to his nest.

  1. A Treat

It had been around a week since Eddie had gifted Buck the sweater, and Buck was feeling amazing about it. It was currently his day off and he was spending it with Athena, they were chatting about a book they had recently read, but were interrupted by a knock on the door.

“I’ll get it ‘Thena.” Buck said with a smile on his face. He got up and opened the door, but all that was there was a box of pastries from Buck’s favorite bakery, and a note. He picked it up and read the note: Pastries may be sweet, but you’re a better treat -E. Buck giggled to himself and brought the box inside. He set it down on the coffee table.

“Oh? And what’s all this? Did you order these?” Athena asked, the older alpha sitting more upright so she could get a good look at the box of pastries.

“Uh, no, these are actually from Eddie.” Buck said with a blush, “I-It’s a part of his courting process.” He looked at Athena, his face full of love.

“Well that’s sweet, and this is your favorite bakery.” Athena commented.

“I-I know!” Buck grinned and looked at her. He opened the box and saw that half the box was full of his favorite almond and raspberry tarts. “Oh and he got me my favorite!!” He looked at the other pastries, “I think these ones are a mix of ones that you and Bobby like.” He said softly as he sat down on the couch.

“Well Buckaroo, it seems like Eddie wants nothing more than to be your mate, your alpha, and I definitely approve.” Athena said with a smile.

“Thank you ‘Thena.” Buck said softly as he picked up a tart and took a bite.

  1. Jewlery

Buck was having a day out with Eddie, Chris was with Denny, the young alphas going off to watch a movie. So it was just the two of them and they were wandering around Downtown Downey. The two of them had just sat down to eat at a Shake Shack, and Eddie had insisted on paying. Buck blushed a little, he knew the alpha was just trying to prove that he could provide for the omega, but he already knew that.

But yet Buck still let him pay. They had both gotten burgers, fries and milkshakes and they were both absolutely starving.

“Hey Buck, after this we need to swing by the jewlery store, I dropped off my St. Christopher medallion to get the chain replaced and get the medallion shined on Monday and they gave me a call saying that it was ready. Is it okay that we stop on our way out?” asked Eddie as he took a bite out of his burger.

“Yeah Eddie, of course!” Buck said cheerily as he ate a fry. The two of them ate easily, talking back and forth about calls, about Christopher, just, anything. And Buck knew, with Eddie, it was easy, and he knew that once the courting process was over, they would mark each other, spend their heats and ruts together. Maybe even have a pup or two. The idea made Buck giddy, “Hey Eddie?” He asked, a nervous edge to his voice bleeding into the question.

“Yeah Buck?” Eddie replied as he wiped his hands.

“Th-this is me thinking way into the future…but would you ever want to have a pup?” His voice was timid, this was a vulnerable question and Buck felt like he was opening himself up just by asking that question.

“Oh Buck,” Eddie reached across the table and took the omega's hand, “We already have Chris, but I just know he would love to be a big brother.” He smiled and brought Buck’s hand up to his lips so he could kiss it.

“Really?” Buck asked, blushing as Eddie kissed his hand. He felt as if an entire weight had been lifted off his chest.

“Really, now c’mon, let's get our asses to the jewlery store.” Eddie smiled and stood up. Buck nodded and stood with him, the two of them walking down to the jewlery store. Eddie held the door open for Buck once they got to the store, “After we can go get some ice cream.”

“Okay!” Buck smiled as he stepped in, Eddie following him. He made his way up to the counter when an associate smiled.

“Mr. Diaz! It’s so good to see you again, here is your medallion, all shiny with a new chain. And here is a replica, I hope your mate likes it!” she said with a huge smile plastered on her face.

“Thank you.” said Eddie, his cheeks flushing as his surprise was ruined. He turned around with the two medallions, “Buck?”

“Hm? Oh, you have two?” Buck asked, “Why two?”

“Because this one,” He opened the box, “Is yours.” He said softly.

“For me? E-Eddie I love it.” He mumbled, taking the box in his hands. He bit down on his lip to prevent himself from crying, but his scent was pushed out. He hugged Eddie tightly, rubbing his nose against Eddie's scent gland in his neck.

“Of course omega, now lets get going.” Eddie pressed a light, gentle kiss to the back of Buck’s head. He let out a soft sigh, he knew that the kiss was toeing the line of courting and dating, but truly, Eddie couldn’t help himself.

  1. Dinner

Buck’s life had been hectic for the past two weeks, he had moved into his new house, much to the objections from Bobby and Athena, rescued a toddler that looked way too much like him for comfort, found out the toddler was Kameron and Connors and invited them over for dinner.

Then Connor and Kameron died in a car accident, and something in his chest heaved. Before he had settled in LA, Connor had been his only friend, so seeing that he and his mate were dead truly tore at his heart. And their pup, well, Theo, was Buck’s now. They had it in their will that if they were to die, Buck would be Theo’s legal guardian. And wasn’t that familiar? Thank you Eddie, but that was beside the point. Trying to live with a very chaotic pup was difficult, and he had needed to call Bobby, or in Theo’s words, Grandpa Poop, or Eddie more times than he could count. But it was fine, things were fine, but he missed being able to just…be with Eddie, exist, further their courting.

And maybe that thought alone was why Eddie was now at his door with three boxes of pizza, a case of beer, and Theo’s favorite fruit punch. Buck hadn’t called the Alpha, but god his timing is absolutely immaculate. He answered the door in sweatpants and no shirt. “Oh thank god, Eddie.” Buck breathed.

“In the flesh, now, where’s Theo?” Eddie asked.

“He’s in his room playing with his spiderman toys. Here, you give me the food and drinks if you can somehow wrangle him?” Buck suggested.

“You read my mind, now here.” Eddie handed the pizza and drinks to Buck. He made sure the omega was stable before he moved deeper into the house in search of the pup. Buck let out a breath he didn’t even realize he was holding. He went to the kitchen to see which pizzas Eddie had bought. He opened the first box, pepperoni and sausage, Eddie's favorite, the second box was pepperoni and pineapple, which made the omega very happy. He opened the last box and found a plain cheese pizza. Just for his pup, oh he was going to sob. Eddie got Theo his own pizza.

He sniffled then grabbed plates and a cup for Theo, the cup had a lid because Buck learned the hard way that toddlers need lids and straws unless he wants to deal with a huge mess. He served everyone pizza, Theo got his special spiderman plate and his cup full of fruit punch. He placed the food down on the coffee table, he knew that when Eddie was over, the pup got to watch movies with dinner. He went to call them, but stopped when he heard Theos giggling and Eddie's deep laughter. Buck couldn’t help the smile that broke out across his face, but after a minute, he called them to eat.

Theo was fast as he ran to the living room. “Pizza!!!” He cheered as he scrambled onto the couch.

“Yeah! Eddie brought us pizza and fruit punch!” Buck kissed the top of the pup's head, scenting him lightly. “What do we say to Eddie, Theo?”

“Fank you Eddie!!” Theo yelled as he took a bite of the pizza. Eddie came from the kitchen with two beers, handing one to Buck as he sat down on the couch next to him.

“You’re welcome Theo.” Eddie said, reaching over to ruffle Theos hair. He looked at Buck and took a deep breath. “Buck…This dinner, while not the fanciest, is my final courting gift for you.” Eddie said, taking Buck’s hand in his own and giving it a gentle squeeze.

“A-Are you serious? Your-your done courting me?” Buck's heartbeat picked up, he already knew the answer to Eddie’s next question.

“If you are okay with that, then yes, it is.” Eddie said, “I ask you, Evan Buckley, to be my mate, my omega, through sickness and in health, and untill death do us part. If you’ll have me, of course.”

“Yes- Eddie of course…you take care of me and our pups so well, I would want nothing more than to be your mate!” Buck said, hugging the Alpha and pressing his face into his neck, inhaling his scent.

“I’m so glad you agree.” Eddie was giddy, squeezing his now new mate. He kissed the top of his head and let out a shaky breath. Eventually the two separated and enjoyed their night, watching Chicken Little with Theo, and eating ice cream.

+1.

Buck and Eddie have been official for around seven months, which meant they had spent a heat and rut together. And of course, that only led to one thing, Buck standing in the middle of an aisle in a CVS, buying at least three pregnancy tests. Buck’s last heat was two months ago and he and Eddie, well, they were busy for four days, thank god Athena and Bobby could take Chris and Theo. However, for the past three weeks, Buck had been waking up drenched in sweat, nauseous and sprinting to the bathroom almost every morning. So here he was, buying pregnancy tests to see what was wrong.

He buys the three then goes home and takes all three, and if you ask Buck, preparing to take a pregnancy test has got to be the top five most humbling experiences. But he ignored the shame and took them anyway. The boxes said he had to wait three to five minutes, so Buck waited six just to be sure. He took a deep breath and flipped the first test.

Pregnant.

‘Okay, Okay!’ Buck thought. Now he wasn’t in the market to get his hopes up just for them to be crushed, so he flipped the other two, and they both said what the first test said: Pregnant. Buck was ecstatic to say the least, so the first thing he did was gather the tests so he could surprise Eddie. He was out grocery shopping, so Buck had time to set up the surprise, the second thing he did was call his gynecologist and set up an appointment.

He couldn’t believe it, he was pregnant, with Eddie’s pup. He was ready to cry. He ran to the laundry room and picked out one of the smallest gift bags they had and he dropped all three tests inside and stuffed it with tissue paper. Then rumaged around and found a piece of cardstock where, in his chicken scratch hand writing, wrote: What’s better than two pups? Three!!!

When he was done setting up the surprise on their coffee table, Eddie pulled into the driveway. He quickly opened the door for his mate. “I have a surprise for you, groceries can wait.” Buck said excitedly.

“Okay, well good thing I have all the bags, lemme put them in the kitchen, where's the surprise so I can avoid looking at it until I put the groceries down?” Eddie asked, a smile creeping onto his face.

“It’s on the coffee table! Now hurry up!” Buck went to the living room to wait.

“Okay, okay! I’m hurrying!” Eddie quickly put the groceries down. He jogged to the living room and looked at the coffee table.

“Here, open this and then you can read the sign.” Buck was practically buzzing.

“Oh, okay.” Eddie took the bag and pulled out the pregnancy tests, and he swore his heart stopped. “Wh-” He looked up and saw Buck holding the sign. “What’s better than two pups? Three!!” Eddie said, then he said it again, “Oh my god! You’re pregnant!!” Eddie yelled.

“I’m pregnant!” Buck echoed. Eddie was quick and scooped Buck up into his arms, squeezing the omega tight.

“Oh my god, I can’t wait.” Eddie whispered, he kissed Buck all over his face. He laughed, he couldn’t believe it.

“Me either…” Buck whispered, he was having a pup, they would be a three pup household in around seven months. The two held each other for a while before sending out announcements about the pregnancy.

And in seven months, Evan Buckley will have a baby girl, who they will name Isa Lila Buckley-Diaz and turn their family of four into a family of five, and all Buck will be able to think about is all the hard work it took to land them right here, in this beautiful moment in their lives.
