It's not silent, not really. There are distant sirens, coming from somewhere up above. There are the rustlings of leaves from the trees surrounding them. Beside him, the ragged, desperate breath of Eddie trying not to cry.
“Eddie…”
Eddie laces their hands together and gives a weak squeeze. “We’re okay, Buck,” he says like he’s repeating a mantra. There’s blood on his teeth. Buck gags. “The ambulance is coming. We’re gonna be okay.”
