Theme Park AU

Work Text:

Martha sat in the employee cafeteria, her doctor’s coat shoved into her backpack. The A&E at Royal Hope had been forced to close due to power problems, so while the generator was being worked on the staff all suddenly at a free day, and the other hospitals in their area would suddenly be filled to the brim with patients.
Part of Martha wished she was helping out, but clearly one of Jack’s lectures about not burning herself out (the most hypocritical things she’d ever heard, basically) had worked, because she instead came to visit Minnie.

Sammy, one of the teenaged employees of the park had let her sneak in, and she’d grabbed Chinese takeaway on her way, which rested just below her coat.

Minnie had gotten the job at Tardis Theme Park only because Martha could be quite pushy, when she put her mind to it. They’d been hiring and Minnie had always had an interest in ride engineering, maintenance, and mechanics. Eventually, she’d agreed to apply.
Martha could still remember the smile on her face upon receiving the acceptance email after her interview.

And Martha did enjoy the employee family discount. It was good for Leo, Keisha and Maisie, too. Even if she was too young for anything but “Kiddie’s World”.

Minnie appeared in the doorway then, a smile stretching across her face, “Martha?”
“Generators went down at Royal Hope. I’ve got the day off,” she grinned, and held some lo mein out for Minnie, “Chinese?”
“You know it!” Minnie sat down next to her, digging into the food, while she regaled Martha with a story about a ride that got stuck and looped 12 times.

If you asked Martha, A&E sounded a lot less stressful than mechanics. Although she was sure Minnie would say the exact opposite.
