Olive held the dice out to Vic, who frowned at them, “What are those?”
Olive blinked owlishly, “Dice! You use them for playing games. When you roll them, you get numbers, which we use for games.”
“I can’t count.”
Olive hummed, worrying her maroon painted lips between her teeth, “Oh.”
She raced out of the room, calling behind her, “Stay there!” Vic had never intended to go anywhere, so she didn’t move at all.
Eventually, Olive returned, smiling broadly, “Here!”
Vic took the proffered items, turning them over in her hands. They were small, mostly rounded, and each had pictures on.
“Those pictures represent numbers!” Olive seemed so excited, so Vic tried to smile herself, the movement unfamiliar, “So you don’t have to count.”
Vic nodded. Olive wanted her to play some game- dragons and dungeons? She wasn’t entirely sure, but she was willing to try. Even if learning to count should probably come first.
