Work Text:
The early morning sun's light hit a window, some rays peaking through the blinds and hitting a certain young man in the face.
"Ugh..." Senku groaned as he slowly woke up.
He was too comfortable to be awake yet.
He tried to settle back down when he felt something tickling his chin.
Peeking one crimson eye open he felt all previous annoyance melt away, instead being replaced by an incredible tenderness.
For there, sleeping peacefully next to him was Kohaku.
It was her wild messy hair that had tickled him.
Instead of trying to sleep more he instead propped his head to watch her for a bit.
It was rare after all that he could watch his wife sleep, since they both usually got up early.
His wife.
"How did we get here?" was a question Senku frequently asked himself, because he wasn't even sure himself.
The first time he met her and saved her from under that huge tree, she'd right away claimed to have fallen for him and he had right away rejected the notion since to him falling in love was already something he considered a waste of time, especially with someone you literally just met.
She had right away claimed to have not meant it in such a way and he honestly believed that.
He soon learned she simply had a certain way with words, often talking in a more poetic way.
After that she was quick to become one of his best friends, one who he could always count on, be it to use her immense strenght and speed to fight enemies, to do heavy-lifting for whatever project they were working on or to offer him words of comfort whenever things got overwhelming for him.
And he genuinely wasn't sure when exactly it started, but somehow his feelings for her went from ten billion percent platonic to finding he definately wouldn't mind if she hugged him more, or that he'd prefer to be alone with her instead of their other friends being around too.
Was it after she hugged him on Treasure Island after they depetrified her? Or maybe when she comforted him when he was thinking about his father? Or was it when she'd "jokingly" told him she wouldn't mind marrying him at Chrome and Ruri's wedding and from there he'd speedrun his feelings?
He really didn't know when, but either way, at some point he'd fallen for beautiful and extraordinary woman and when she had one day suddenly confessed her mutual feelings for him, how could he do anything other than confess his own and so start a relationship with her.
It had been strange at first.
Senku had always been good at reading situations but had never been an affectionate person while Kohaku was naturally affectionate, but pretty dense at times.
Still, they found their own pace to get used to being more than friends till they couldn't imagine ever going back.
There hadn't been a grand proposal after a few years together.
Instead they'd simply been lazing in bed together when the topic came up and agreeing they'd like to take the next step.
They had both wanted to elope or at most have a small intimate wedding with just close friends and family but certain people *cough Ryusui cough* had insisted on them having a huge elaborate wedding.
Still, as much of a pain it had been to plan everything, he definately couldn't complain upon seeing Kohaku in her beautiful white dress, practically glowing with the way she smiled as she walked down aisle had made everything ten billion percent worth it.
Now here they were, one year later, cuddled in bed before starting their day like they had done so many other times.
And they would be doing so for the rest of their days coming if Senku had anything to say about.
"Hm..." Kohaku then moaned sleepily, starting to wake up too.
"Good morning, Lioness. You're up late. Had a good dream?" he asked softly.
"Not a lioness..." she mumbled, like she'd always done, making him chuckle and shake his head in amusement.
They both knew by now that him calling her a lioness was more a term of endearment and her denying being one was more so out of habit than actual dislike.
"Yeah you are. Just look at that wild mane." he teased, gently brushing some of her hair, grinning as she leaned into his hand.
"Say," she smiled sweetly up at him, "You know what kind of day it is?"
"Of course I do. You know I never stop counting." he answered, leaning closer till his lips were brushing her's, "Happy anniversary."
Their first anniversary since they'd gotten married.
Kohaku giggled before pressing a sweet kiss against his mouth.
"You know, I sometimes still wonder how we even got here." she told him.
"Funny, I was literally thinking the ame thing just now. Though, I'm ten billion percent not complaining." he admitted, grinning as she giggled more and climbed on top of him, stradling him.
"Not complaining at all?" she asked mischiefously, "Not even if I were too..." she trailed off as she undid the top button of her pyjama shirt.
"Oh definately not. How about I show you myself?" he grinned back before grabbing her hips and rolling them both over so he was on top, making her squeal with laughter till he silenced her wit another kiss.
Yep. Still no clue how he did it but not complaining at all and he was gonna celebrate bieng married to her the best way possible.
