Velvette was important. When she dropped into Hell, she wasn't about to let a change in setting take that away from her.
No one close to her had recognized how important she was, so she made sure no one else could be close. The distance appeared to be necessary for everyone to know it. Otherwise, they took her for granted.
“No one but you can do this.”
Vox was close. Too close. She tried to keep him and Valentino distant, but not even the “business partners” Vox would let her.
He still found her important.
To her? So was Vox.
